Subject: RE: BS: It's snowing! (Again) From: Slag Date: 11 Apr 08 - 02:08 AM Shhhhh! Don't say that. If we have a crisis, we have a cause! If we have a cause, we have a means to power and money, especially if only WE can understand it. And what a cause! No matter what the weather does, WE predicted it and if something bad happens like a big storm, YOU did it with your bourgeoisie consumption. Better yet, it's the incumbent's fault! I love it. Ya can't lose with this one! Chants anyone? |
Subject: RE: BS: It's snowing! (Again) From: the lemonade lady Date: 09 Apr 08 - 10:01 AM Well if this Global Warming stuff, i'm all for it. "...there has so far been no recorded global warming at all this century. The world's temperature rose about half a degree centigrade during the last quarter of the 20th century; but even the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research - part of Britain's Met Office and a citadel of the current global warming orthodoxy - has now conceded that recorded temperature figures for the first seven years of the 21st century reveal there has been a standstill." To quote Nigel Lawson. Actually I don't want anymore snow in June, it doesn't do lemonade sales any good at all! Lol Sal |
Subject: RE: BS: It's snowing! (Again) From: Bat Goddess Date: 09 Apr 08 - 07:51 AM Well, here in New Hampshire we haven't had any snow for about a week and a half now. But the ice ledge with the mounds of crystalized snow remains on the north side of the house (where the deck and door is; sigh) threatens to still be here come Fourth of July. I did see a snowdrop yesterday -- I thought they had all bloomed while covered with snow. Picked up some of the flower bed border rocks that had been moved by the plow, since they were covering another hosta bed. If we cut up all the large downed branches, though, we'll have a start on next winter's firewood. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: It's snowing! (Again) From: Rapparee Date: 08 Apr 08 - 09:38 PM It's supposed to snow off and on for the next three days. Subject: RE: BS: It's snowing! (Again) From: Ebbie Date: 08 Apr 08 - 05:10 PM You'd think, that living in Alaska would denote snowy weather. Robo is in Anchorage which is farther north (and west) than Juneau, where I am. His winters are longer and colder than ours so our weather expectations are different. But sometimes we get the same storm passing through. Last night, when I trekked home from the first night of Folk Festival it was kind of nice out, drizzling light rain but not cold. (Our standards are notoriously low here!) This morning we had a beautiful white world. On the sidewalks, the snow was crunchy but the streets were slick and hard with ice. April 15 is the deadline in southeast Alaska for removing studded tires- this morning I imagine some people wish they hadn't removed them early. |

Thank goodness I've heard this from another source. No-one believes me but I was told it by my butcher in 1978 (I was living in South Africa in '76). He said he remembered it snowing because it was the day of his dad's funeral. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's snowing! (Again) From: Susan A-R Date: 07 Apr 08 - 09:06 PM Lots of sun, lots of mud and lots of big holes in the road created by freezing and thawing, referred to here as "frost heaves" One local policeman was heard to say that they have stopped arresting Vermonters for drunk driving because everyone is driving erratically to avoid big holes in the road, so it's hard to tell who's drunk and who's sober. At this point in the season, however, darned few of us are sober. |

I can't go to work (yeah!) because of our 24" of new snow fall and still coming. As a matter of fact, I was stranded in town Sat. night when it started. We had a foot by midnight Saturday and throughout Sunday, recieved another foot. I had to leave my vehicle in town and I was saved by a four wheel drive to get me home. More today then clearing out I hope. I need to get back into town to get my vehicle as soon as we get plowed out around here. We just got more snow in one day than we had all winter. Quite a trip.
