Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright/ Pink Floyd keyboard player. From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 18 Sep 08 - 07:34 AM Astronomy Domine was the first track that I ever heard in stereo, something we take for granted now we have surround sound etc. It is still an awesome track, particuarly when you consider how far the group had diverged from mainstream music of the time. Greatly missed. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright/ Pink Floyd keyboard player. From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 18 Sep 08 - 07:02 AM When Barratt left the band in 1968 their management and fans thought that Rick would take the helm as principal songwriter. He was pushed aside and treated like crap by Waters. If you remember the live 8 show there were almost no screenshots of Rick, as if he didn't exist. I hope they feel bad about that now! God Bless you Rick - now you can get together with Syd and boogie! |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright/ Pink Floyd keyboard player. From: Chris Green Date: 16 Sep 08 - 05:24 AM My favourite band of all time is one less. However, to quote the doorman at Abbey Road "you've got to go some time". At least it was a short battle. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright/ Pink Floyd keyboard player. From: Lonesome EJ Date: 16 Sep 08 - 01:30 AM I remember seeing Pink Floyd in Louisville shortly after Dark Side came out. My roommate owned the Hammond Organ that Wright played at the show, and we got to roll it in and hang out backstage a bit. The show was phenomenal, and I remember Wright perched on a kind of platform surrounded by keyboards, and control panels, and flashing lights, and looking like nothing less than a Starship Commander as the music spun all around him. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright/ Pink Floyd keyboard player. From: Folk Form # 1 Date: 15 Sep 08 - 05:44 PM Pink Floyd at their best (Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, Dark Side...)were always the sum of their parts and Wright was a quarter of that part. Very important to the band. A sad loss. RIP Rick. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright/ Pink Floyd keyboard play From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 15 Sep 08 - 04:43 PM Amen to that. I never met Rick though I did a few gigs at Charterhouse School (half a mile from my home) including sharing vocals with Clare Torry (of Great Gig in the Sky fame) one memorable night. Listen carefully to his chord work - genius understatement, massive power. God Speed old chap Tom |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright/ Pink Floyd keyboard play From: Mooh Date: 15 Sep 08 - 04:25 PM Most unhappy news. Pink Floyd has always been one of my most favourite bands. The rock jam in the sky is getting pretty big. May he rest in peace. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright From: Wesley S Date: 15 Sep 08 - 03:11 PM He was an important part of the band. More crutial to their sound than a lot of us suspected. I used to listen to a lot of Pink Floyd until they got very popular. It was a nasty habit of mine back then. Dropping bands because other folks liked them. I may be one of the few people who's copy of "Dark Side of the Moon" was only played once. I worked in a record store at the time and it was on our turntable all day long. That would take the joy out of any recording. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright From: fat B****rd Date: 15 Sep 08 - 02:32 PM I saw The PInk Floyd at Waddington RAF (Lncolnshire) base in 1968 just after Dave Gilmour had joined. It was a bizarre night. No-one was allowed in wearing jeans and the usual Saturday night crowd can't have been what the band were used to. I was especially impressed with 'Astroomy Domine' and had a brief chat to Rick Wright after the set. He was polite and friendly and that's all you could ask. RIP Sir. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Wright From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 15 Sep 08 - 01:53 PM Just heard this on local radio on the way home but there seems to be no mention of it on the main BBC News which is pretty appalling - apparently Prince William training to be a helicopter pilot is of more importance to the Beeb. A very sad loss - my hopes of Pink Floyd reforming are now gone - I always regret not seeing them in the 70's/80's. RIP Rick - you and your colleagues added so much to my life. |
