Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Les in Chorlton Date: 30 Mar 10 - 10:17 AM Thanks Mr/ Ms Charmion, and stay away from all forms of work until well past feeling pretty good. Buy a banjo or something .......... L in C |
Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Charmion Date: 30 Mar 10 - 09:22 AM Been there, done that -- twice. Got interesting scars to prove it. The plastic boot is an enormous improvement on good, old-fashioned plaster of Paris. You can open the Velcro straps and have a good scratch! The man from Chorlton is right about muscle atrophy and physio. Do your exercises! |

Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Les in Chorlton Date: 30 Mar 10 - 03:29 AM The problem with leg brakes, apart from the obvious ones, is that whilst healing, the muscles waste througn lack of use. This affects ballance when you start to use the leg again. This makes movement difficult and tirering and further falls likely. Any physio that keeps leg muscles working normally is so important and any amount of walking asap is best. Best wishes L in C |
Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Ebbie Date: 29 Mar 10 - 12:28 PM Ha! What goes around comes around. Enjoy the parts that you can. |
Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: RangerSteve Date: 29 Mar 10 - 11:39 AM Oddly enough, It's all the fault of my cane. Since I have to walk with a cane, I thought I'd get a nice looking one, so I bought one make from a hawthorne root. It's extremely hard, and when I stumbled, my leg got twisted around the cane, causing my leg to snap. So much for vanity. I'm wearing a plastic boot on my leg, which I was told weighs 2 1/2 pounds, but feels like it weighs 50 pounds. I finally got the hang of hopping around with the help of a walker, sleeping on my couch, since I can't go upstairs to my bedroom. Thanks for all your kind thoughts. On the plus side, my roommate has to do everything for me, so he now knows what I went through when he had leg surgery to replace some blood veins. |
Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Maryrrf Date: 28 Mar 10 - 11:03 PM Ouch Ouch - broken in two places! Strange how accidents can happen so suddenly when you're just ambling along doing routine things. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! |

Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Tig Date: 28 Mar 10 - 05:59 PM Catherine Jane may still have her copy of The Landings Book to lend you. Silly thing to do - says she who broke her ankle twisting it and her shoulder flying downstairs without her broomstick. Be warned. They can be more bother after they are supposedly properly 'healed'! Love and hugs xxxx |

Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Ebbie Date: 28 Mar 10 - 03:41 PM Two bones? That must be painful. My commiserations- when something bad or untoward happens I would like always to feel that it was of some use - but no Brownie points for that. Maybe the message is simply that next time you will watch where you step? Heal quickly and well. |

Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: Stilly River Sage Date: 28 Mar 10 - 03:00 PM I've had one broken leg, same arrangement you did. Not fun, makes things awkward (even when you're a kid, as I was). Be sure to keep it up when you can. It prevents swelling and promotes healing. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Mar 10 - 02:59 PM Geeziz........Ain't it always the way? Some simple thing. On the other hand, here is a damn good reason for NOT cleaning out your car......or paving your driveway.........or going to a good car wash. Get well and glad it isn't even worse! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: GUEST,SINSULL Date: 28 Mar 10 - 02:51 PM OUCH! Took a tumble myself two or three weeks ago. My pride and my knee got the worst of it. You must have another three weeks of the cast and then some therapy, right? So sorry. Mary |
Subject: RE: BS: My broken leg From: DougR Date: 28 Mar 10 - 02:21 PM Well, RangerSteve, you got it from me. Fortunately I've never had a broken leg (or anything else if you discount what Greg F might have to say). DougR |
Subject: BS: My broken leg From: RangerSteve Date: 28 Mar 10 - 02:10 PM I was cleaning out my car, and somehow stumbled in my driveway, which just dirt and gravel and has an uneven surface, and I have no idea just how I managed to break both bones in my lower right leg, but I did. Since my computer room is kind of cluttered, It's been 2 and a half weeks since I've been able clear a path to the computer, which was blocked by some heavy furniture. I'm back. I'm not going to bother looking at 2 1/2 weeks worth of Mudcat postings. If you had some good news to share, I'm happy for you. If you had bad news, I'm sorry I couldn't offer you my sympathies. If there was anything really notable happening here, just post it on this thread. Thanks. By the way, I'm not looking for sympathy, but that doesn't mean I won't accept it. |
