Subject: Lyr Add: CARMICHAEL MILL (Robin Laing) From: GUEST,Shanty Kees Date: 30 Dec 10 - 06:07 PM I hadn't seen this thread before, so a bit late the lyrics as noted in the booklet of the CD, Imaginary Lines by Robin Laing. It also sais about this song the following: "Inspired by an earlier lyric by Ken Fawell and his daughter Gemma who live in the mill." I hope this helps, Kees - (Holland) Carmichael Mill (Robin Laing) Down by the Clyde there's a bonny place, Where stands Carmichael Mill, And the evening sun sometimes hides his face, In the shadow of Tinto Hill, Slowly the river turns and steers, Life is woven with joys and tears, And time is measured in hundreds of years, But the Mill is standing Still. For forty years the old mill lay asleep, Rotting and rusting in shadows so deep, And over the cogs spiders would creep, And the water wheel stood still, The slates and the gutters were broken and sad, We live in a time of fashion and fad, And we never knew the treasure we had, Lying at Carmichael Mill. The heart of the mill gladly remains, Scratched on the beams are stories and names, These were the men with the brawn and the brains, And the long generations of skill, Now the bright water runs through the lade, In the machinery music is played, And the song of the past is a sweet serenade, To the men who built Carmichael Mill. From the Daer Water tae where the Cart spills, Clyde gathers streams from moorland and hills, Enough for the wheels of ten thousand mills, And another ten thousand beside, And though the past is buried and gone, The river's power runs on and on, And a small beam of light to the future is shone, By the last meal mill on the Clyde. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Carmichael Mill (Robin Laing) From: GUEST,Millken Date: 30 Dec 10 - 02:24 PM I own and live in the restored Carmichael Mill and helped Robin Laing put the Carmichael Mill song together. Carmichael Mill really is the last (workable) meal mill on the Clyde. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Carmichael Mill (Robin Laing) From: GUEST,Guest Bagger Date: 02 Jun 10 - 08:36 AM Have to say that the response to this request has been mightily disappointing. If there is anyone out there who could help correct my crude attempt at picking the chords out it would be very much appreciated. By the way,I think the chording of the verse differs slightly from the chorus. And, with a little bit of looking about, I think I have discovered a couple of corrections to the wording that I gave above. "From the Dire/Dark water to where the cart spills", should be corrected to "From the Daer Water (tributary of the Clyde) to where the Cart (White and Black Cart where the Clyde splits of into the sea)spills". Come on Catters, there must be someone out there who can make better stab at the chords or better still know what Robin Laing uses? Bagger |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Carmichael Mill (Robin Laing) From: GUEST,Guest Bagger Date: 20 May 10 - 09:25 AM Sorry Catters, But the chords seem to have been misplaced once I have submitted and checked. I'll see what these come out like:- Chorus |
Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: CARMICHAEL MILL (Robin Laing) From: GUEST,Guest Bagger Date: 20 May 10 - 09:23 AM Well Catters, Not done very well with answers to this one, so, I've had a go at working out the chords for myself. If there is anyone out there that knows the song and plays the guitar, try these chords and let me know what you think. I've put a couple of question marks over the words I couldn't quite understand from the CD and I'm sure that Robin Laing's chords will be somewhat different to my simplistic version, but it seems to work for me:- Carmichael Mill Any corrections would be gratefully received Bagger Alan |

Subject: RE: Lyr & Chords Req; Carmichael Mill From: Gutcher Date: 18 May 10 - 06:25 PM G.B. The old traditonal song "CARNWATH MILL" was rewritten & issued in sheet music & a 78rpm record in 1946. Carnwath Mill & Carmichael Mill are only a few miles distant from each other. Could the song on your C.D. be another rewrite of this same song? Carnwath Mill {Chorus} And its fare ye weel tae Carnwath Mill and its fare ye weel ma dearie o its fare ye weel tae Carnwath Mill for its there for its there that a lost ma dearie. NOTE---mill is pronounced mull in the speak of the area. Joe. |
Subject: Lyr & Chords Req; Carmichael Mill From: GUEST,Guest Bagger Date: 18 May 10 - 02:38 PM I posted this yesterday but have had no response as yet and I noticed a couple of spelling mistakes in the title so I thought I'd start the thread again I have a CD of Robin Laing's, Imaginary Lines, upon which is a song called Carmichael Mill. Looked in all the usual places on the Net but came up with nothing, not even the lyrics. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers me dears
I combined your two threads. When you start multiple threads on the same subject, it creates confusion. If you need changes to a thread title or other editing, just ask. If you need to find a thread you started a while back, use the Filter to locate it. But try to avoid starting a new thread if there's already an existing thread on the subject.,br> -Joe Offer joe@mudcat.org= |
