Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: Richie Black (misused acct, bad email) Date: 04 Oct 10 - 08:48 AM The football club chairman caught up in the Pakistan cricket spot-fixing scandal has been found dead after apparently shooting himself with a shotgun. Croydon Athletic chairman Dave Le Cluse was found in a garage near his home in Surrey on Saturday. The club's owner, Mazhar Majeed, was arrested in August in connection with the allegations that Pakistan players had conspired to deliver no-balls at pre-arranged moments of matches during their recent tour of England. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: Arnie Date: 23 Sep 10 - 06:58 AM If I were an Asian bookmaker, then I wouldn't be taking any bets on cricket as many of the matches are rigged. If the punters are making millions from rigged matches, then that money must be coming from the bookmakers. How do they make any profit? Unless the bookies are placing bets with other bookies? I must have missed something here... |
Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: Hrothgar Date: 23 Sep 10 - 02:59 AM Butt said he heard about the England team's fixing games from bookmakers. In the current climate, should he be talking to bookmakers? |
Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: GUEST,Marion Date: 22 Sep 10 - 06:30 PM I thought the whole problem stemmed from gambling's being illegal in Pakistan? That's why it's run by crooks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: KHNic Date: 22 Sep 10 - 06:08 PM After today, with a massive surge of ticket sales for the match at the Rosebowl and a dismal performance by Pakistan, can I be the first to suggest collusion between the ECB and PCB to leave the series at two-all coming into the final match to avoid the spectacle of three men and a dog watching a ODI at the end of September. BTW, anyone know what the result of the Ashes tour has been decided upon. Cynically yours, Nic |
Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 22 Sep 10 - 06:10 AM Corruption in cricket has been not long out of the headlines for some years now, and regualtions are needed - including Oliver Cromwell's way of making all gambling illegal; or, if you prefer it in verse, Dot Ball. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: Arthur_itus Date: 22 Sep 10 - 04:48 AM Well you could always make the pop in crease far enough away from the stumps, that a foot no ball would be impossible. Same sort of thing for wides. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: Arnie Date: 21 Sep 10 - 08:30 AM Butt is retiring in a few weeks time and no doubt wishes to go out in a blaze of controversy. He may regret this if he has the shirt sued off him in a UK court. I think that the final match should be cancelled as it's all decended into a farce. Maybe one solution would be for the Pakistani players to reveal before the match how much they are being paid by the bookies, and what they are being paid for. England could then try and thwart them by preventing the batsmen reaching such and such a target. Preventing the intentional bowling of no-balls would be a bit harder to regulate but I'm sure a way could be found. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 Sep 10 - 08:10 AM Recent studies show that libel tourism into the UK is in fact very rare. In oder for a libel (or slander) action to lie there must be an identifiable plaintiff. So "Some of the England team took bribes" is not actionable because no one player can say "that identifiably refers to me". If extrinsic circumstances identify the subject matter of the statement then the person so identified can sue. |

Subject: BS: Pakistan Cricket Chairman Butt From: Arthur_itus Date: 20 Sep 10 - 08:46 AM I reckon if this guy has not got sound evidence that England threw the game, then he should be banned from cricket forever in all forms of the game or appointments. I don't know, but it strikes me that this guy is trying to take the heat off the Pakistani players and team and has probably lost his senses. If he is telling the truth and can prove it, then any English player involved should never play cricket again. Is the root of the problem related to how huge betting is, through the internet? If so, isn't it time betting on the Internet was banned completely? |
