Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Amos Date: 17 Sep 01 - 12:10 AM A timecapsule from the Mudcat has GOT to include the Steamboat composition, the Enterprise tale, the Soda Shoppe fictyion thread, the incredible Buddhist/Hindu/mountain climbing Good Vs Evil thread, a few choice Taverns, Why We Sing, Vietname, and perhaps a dozen other definitive threads plus the entirelt of the Mudcat song book. |

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Mbo Date: 10 Dec 99 - 08:26 AM Vixen, "Afterglow" is The Electric Light Orchestra's greatest hits boxed set. 4 cds. I drool over that sort of thing. Although I have all their albums, save four, I'd still spen the forty bucks so I could get those rare b-sides! Future generations should have this great collection (though for discerning megafans like me, their is a good deal of editing down on some of the longer songs--travesty!) --Mbo |
Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Banjoman_CO Date: 10 Dec 99 - 12:28 AM My choice for the time capsule would have to be a tape of a live set at the Ferrago Coffee house in 1966 by Steve Brainard. This set has to be the best I've ever heard. Too bad it was never made into a record or cassette. |

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Mbo Date: 09 Dec 99 - 10:42 AM How can I get Winders 98? I would put "RIOF" by Dougie MacLean in there, America's Greatest Hits, ELO's "Afterglow" and tape I put together called by my family "THE tape." I agree with Liz. Put some Kate Rusby in there, so future generations can love her too. --Mbo |
Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: MMario Date: 09 Dec 99 - 10:28 AM actually, no, some of the copyrights probably wouldn't have expired....terms are now for 75 years AFTER the author's death......so figure a 24 year old writes a song, lives to be 89=65 years PLUS 75 = 140 years..... and if medical attention continues to lengthen the average age span, we could see copyrights lasting almost two centuries w/o much difficulty.... *gag* |
Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Bert Date: 09 Dec 99 - 09:34 AM I would put in The Harry Fox Agency and The National Music Publisher's Association. Keep them off our backs for 100 years, and when they open the capsule all of their copyrights will have expired. |

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Allan C. Date: 08 Dec 99 - 05:43 PM How about including a recording of everyone's first time playing and/or singing in front of more than three people? Also include a certificate of verification that at the time the recording was sealed in the capsule, all of the people on the recording were still alive. Then the generations to come will know beyond a doubt that stage fright is survivable. |
Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: katlaughing Date: 08 Dec 99 - 05:42 PM BillD: Curses on Windows 98! Maybe you should have gotten the Texas version, instead: Notice from Microsoft: It has come to our attention that a few copies of the Texas Edition of Windows 98 may have accidentally been shipped outside of Texas. If you have one of the Texas Editions you may need some help understanding the commands. The Texas Edition may be recognized by looking at the opening screen. It reads WINDERS98 with a background picture of the Alamo superimposed on the Texas flag. It is shipped with a Leann Rimes screen saver.
Also note the Recycle Bin is labeled Outhouse.
Other features:
Terminology: Also note that Winders 98 does not recognize capital letters or punctuation marks. We regret any inconvenience it may have caused if you received a copy of the Texas Edition. You may return it to Microsoft for a replacement version.

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Vixen Date: 08 Dec 99 - 08:35 AM Dear Mick, You shouldn't post after midnight...your spelling gets *terrible*...and you're too vague to be understood! every schoolchild knows it's "f@*#ing"! Also, WHICH "thong" do you want to put in? I think the DT has about a bajillion in the bawdy category that address in various ways the activity presently known as "f@*#ing"! Finally, if it's the "potato thong" you're thinking of, you should probably get Cheryl Wheeler's permission to put it in the time capsule. V (who never goes to the tavern, and doesn't really know anything about it at all!)

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Vixen Date: 07 Dec 99 - 09:18 PM Ahem.
In that ancient future land I suggest a CD of the Digitrad as of 31 December 1999 and a complete backup of all threads from inception to said date, AND a computer that will read them both. If you want to guarantee they're understood, however, print a hardcopy of all of it, because text only requires a pair of eyes and a deciphering mind to understand. English will probably change as much as it has since Beowulf (1000 a.d.) but it will be translatable. V |

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Bill D Date: 07 Dec 99 - 09:02 PM alison...you DO have an...ummm..'interesting' notion of what you want future generations to find..*big grin*..... I think I'd stuff in tapes & CD's of music...several versions of some of the same songs, in both 'trad' and 'modern' arrangements, so they could have some idea of what the debates about 'folk' were about!.....and maybe a small replica of a gargoyle...*wink* |

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Willie-O Date: 07 Dec 99 - 08:31 PM more thread creep...several years ago the local CBC station switched from an AM to an FM frequency. Before they officially started broadcasting on the new 91.5 wavelength, they had to field-test and fine-tune the signal, for about a week. At least that's why I presume that one Nanci Griffith recording was on non-stop rotation at 91.5 FM, 24 hours a day, for about six days. (They could have done a lot worse.) I gotta admit i listened to it quite a lot...but enough was enough! Or I don't know, maybe it was a short-lived all-music Adult Contemporary station with an unusually narrow format... So anyway, there's now a band of radio waves surrounding our solar system, about eight light years out, which when decoded consist of Nanci G. singing about riding in a car with a guy named Seamus...over 'n'over I'm not sure if this in an argument for including her music in a time capsule, or for leaving it out. The alien explorers may be expecting to hear more of her. Perhaps it would be best to include any recording except that one. There are strange things done... Bill |

Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: Pixie Date: 07 Dec 99 - 07:59 PM Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith, Emmylou Harris....leads to the question: If you were stranded on a desert island (please suspend reality for a mo') and could only have the collected works of 3 artists (of the musician persuasion), who would you choose?.....same quandry for me as what goes in the time capsule. By the time I decide, it's gone! |
Subject: RE: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? Subject: M'cat Time Capsule-What Would U put in? From: katlaughing Date: 07 Dec 99 - 07:20 PM Heard a phone-in on NPR the other day. People from all over were calling in with their suggestions for what to put in a time capsule of our times, from the 1950's on. Some were pretty good; others were just plain stupid. But it got me to thinking what a bunch of phoakies would want to put in one, esp. Mudders. So, besides the usual, the entire database on CD-ROM and a CD or tape of any who have them, I would like to also include a replica of Cleigh O'Possum and Waylon Heron. How about you? |
