Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: Alice Date: 01 Dec 00 - 01:09 PM That web address for Fiddler's Dream doesn't seem to exist any more. Anyone have an updated URL? |
Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: DougR Date: 05 Jan 00 - 09:06 PM Liam: I regret to say that I can't answer your questions. I have only recently been able to get "out and about" so I'm not as familiar with the Fiddler's Dream as I hope to be. I attended a recent concert there performed by a friend, a fingerpicker and two excellent fingerpicker friends, but I haven't attended sessions in the smaller space, which is where I think the open mike night takes place. I do know it is a purist Folk hangout. No booze, coffe, tea and soft drinks. It's a fairly small venue but you will have an appreciative audience I know. DougR |

Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: JedMarum Date: 05 Jan 00 - 11:23 AM I hate to tempt fate by thinking about this before the deal is done, but I have some very promising business opportunties in the area, and if my meetings over the next few weeks bear fruit, I'll get to see all of those music venues for myself. Thanks for the info Doug, Gary and Lloyd, maybe we can hook up one of these days. Doug, can you tell me more about the club? Type of music that works there? Type of crowd? What is sound system like? How well atteneded are the open mics? Any tips along that line? |
Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: DougR Date: 04 Jan 00 - 09:30 PM lloyd61: There is an Irish Pub in Scottsdale called the Blarney Stone. They might have open mike nights there. Also the Dubliner Pub in Phoenix (40th Street and Thunderbird Rd.). One might be able to perform on Wednesday night at the Dubliner. Another possibility might be Seamus McCaffrey's Irish Pub and Grill in downtown Phoenix. Fiddler's Dream is by far the best possibility though. I definitely plan to be at Fiddler's Saturday night because they are doing a memorial concert honoring a friend to many of us that died recently and was a strong supporter of folk music in the Phoenix area. Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: DougR Date: 04 Jan 00 - 09:12 PM Liam: Thursday, you say? I'll try to drop by. Would you kindly clutch a rose between your teeth so I'll know who your are? A yellow one if you please so that I'm not confused by all of the other folks clutching red roses between their teeth. Fiddler's Dream is probably the best bet in the Phoenix area for Folkies to perform. DougR |
Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: JedMarum Date: 04 Jan 00 - 07:07 PM I have also posted this request to the Mudcat Radio thread, but please all you Phoenix area Mudcatters, come out to the Fiddler's Dream and say hello (if you can make it). |
Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: JedMarum Date: 04 Jan 00 - 06:10 PM Gary - thanks for this tip. I will be in Pheonix on Thursday night, so I will attempt to get on the list for the open mic at the Fiddler's Dream Coffeehouse. I tried calloing today to be sure I could get on the list, but they only had a recording on. I'll try again tomorrow. Even if I can;t reach 'em, I'll show up and hopefully get a chance to play. If you are able to stop by, please do. I'd love to say hello to a fellow Mudcatter! I wrote down the addr below: FIDDLER'S DREAM COFFEE HOUSE (602) 997-9795 1702 E GLENDALE AVE PHOENIX AZ 85020 |
Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: Lonesome EJ Date: 03 Jan 00 - 12:13 AM Also a decent, funky Blues Bar called Char's, south of downtown. Don't know about open mike there, though. |

Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 02 Jan 00 - 10:05 PM There's a nice little place in Phoenix itself called the Fiddler's Dream Coffeehouse. It's sort of in the Camelback Mountain vicinity. They have an open mike on Thursday's (IIRC), and regular coffeehouses on the weekend. I know Tom Tuerff, one of the guys who runs it, and a couple of the performers who go there. I did the open mike myself when I was there on a business trip. The web site is http://www.primenet.com/~fiddler. -- Gary |
Subject: RE: Looking for Music is Scottsdale AZ. From: JedMarum Date: 02 Jan 00 - 10:50 AM me too ... I may be visiting regularly, if business goes the way it looks at the moment. I'd like to know where are the open mics, and jam sessions. |
Subject: Looking for Music in Arizona From: lloyd61 Date: 02 Jan 00 - 10:37 AM Looking for Music in Scottsdale Arizona I will be spending a few weeks in Scottsdale Arizona. I don't play Golf, so I'm a little out of step with the rest of Scottsdale. What I would like to do is play some Music, so if anyone is aware of a Folk Group in that area please let me know. |
