Well I managed to squeeze my electronic piano in on one side of the Christmas tree, and we had a lovely session, playing mainly seasonal stuff. Since then, the tree has become more decorated and the twinkly lights have gone up in the hallway.
And the Santa sleigh came round tonight, so it is starting to feel like Christmas!

Thread drift alert:

I was just surprised by an unusual Main Street parade.
It was a parade of all the police and fire department vehicles
from several townships put together.
Why?
Because every vehicle had been decorated with Christmas lights.
The parade happened around 6 pm when it is pitch dark outside,
so the lights really stood out.
One ambulance had a Star of David in blue lights on one side.
Mostly it was just strings of lights all over the vehicles.
They were blowing their horns and flashing their signal lights.

The dining room faces Main Street
and so we could see the parade while eating dinner at the table.

Making progress, where I am staying:
the doors have green wreaths with red velvet bows on them;
and the big fake tree is surrounded with colored lights.

Beginning to look a bit like Blackpool around here, with people going OTT on the outside lights (not in our garden, they’re not!) Husband decided to put up our (many years old fake) tree today. Had hoped he’d leave it until after next Monday when I’m having a few friends round for some tunes: less room for us all with the tree in the way!

Where I am staying, it is all about fake trees,
the kind that have to be assembled from a number of parts.
The really large fake tree has a modest amount of ornaments.
The smaller one has no ornaments yet.
People are still working on strings of Christmas lights.

The only Xmas thing I brought when I moved in April is this ceramic tree made by one of Rita's cousins, and even that will have to go in my son's window, as mine don't face the street.

I put up lights in the yard, the usual set is a bunch of multi-colored strings on a good-sized juniper beside my driveway. But this year, because my across-the-street neighbors are not in good health (each is about 90) and didn't put up their tree in the front room, I put up extra lights on three other places in the yard. When they look out front they can see these lights to cheer them up.

It's a year in which we all need extra cheering.

Decorations will go up soon. 12th night most come down but the greenery stays up until candlemas.

Around us people seem to put things up even before 1st December, but take them down even before 1st January!

Our tree and deccies are up. As a non Christian I still enjoy the mid winter festival. Its lovely that around that time of year the days start to get longer again and I can ignore the hype while still celebrating the true magic of nature. It reminds me that even the longest of dark nights will end :-)

I put up little decorations all around the house, garlands, some mistletoe, but not usually till the week of the Solstice. It is supposed to all be down by Epiphany. Sometimes I'm lucky if it's all down by my birthday in March...

We never decorate until the 18th December, one week before Christmas, but we won’t be putting up decorations at all this year. My wife’s father, probably my ‘best’ friend, died in September from lung-cancer. He and my wife’s mum have come to us for Christmas for the past 21 years and, although she will still come to us, our sense of loss is simply too great for us to give a rat’s arse about all the over-commercialised Christmas BS.

We will have Christmas lunch as usual, but that will be the full extent of our ‘celebrations’ this year.

Likewise we will not be sending Christmas cards - we will, however, make a donation to the St Barnabas Hospice charity, whose staff took such good care of Doug, and the family, during his dark, final days.

Could not locate an existing thread with this title, so here is a fresh one.

Some Mudcatters have already posted elsewhere about
how they are decorating for Christmas, inside or outside their homes.

Where I am staying, the decorations are going up today,
including, I believe, a large manmade "Christmas" tree
which is going to be covered in ornaments.

I'll be staying here through Christmas and New Years,
so these are the only ornaments and decorations I will see this year
aside from those I drive past that are outdoors.
