And here's another idea for the site, in case you are looking for more things to play with ...

I presume that, for members, there is some record kept, perhaps on a cookie?, as to the last time they visited the site.

Suppose that we somehow had the option of permanently setting the "Age" on the thread listing page, to "since last visit" ???

Then we would automatically see all the threads - and only the threads - which had had postings since our last visit - whether this was yesterday, or three weeks ago.

What do you think?

To Max:

This is a somewhat different "technical issue"; I'd thought I'd just mention it here rather than start a whole new thread for it.

As I mentioned in the Chat Room a few days ago, the "number of messages" on my tracers were not always accurate. Did some experimenting, and found that if I add the same thread to my tracer listing more than once, the *title* only appears once on the tracer, but the "number of messages" doubles - triples - quadruples - etc. as the case may be.

So maybe the other point we discussed - about changing the "Add to Tracer" link to read "Remove from Tracer" for any link which was already on the tracer - would help to solve this problem as well!

Not that I'm trying to give you any more work ... just for your information!

New news, we had Bell Technicians here all day and they replaced some of their crap. We are not sure that did it for reliability, but they said it's the most likely answer and we haven't had any errors since they left. We're crossing our fingers.

I havn't donated yet, don't have a lot of spare cash, etc, etc, but maybe I, and many others, (kind of like PBS and NPR), could help - I'm also more than a little wary of any transaction's security over the internet... so, do you have a set-up for mailing a check, (be it ever so small) or what?

cheers, BK

After getting the Null pointer exception all day long, I read this thread and followed the advice, i.e., I entered through the deltablues.com link. Still can't get in. I'll keep trying, but in the meantime, HELP !!

You may be getting the Nullpoint because you have an older version of the chat cached in your browser. Doesn't hurt to clear your cache once and a while and to check your bookmarks to make sure they are the most recent pages and such. I try to name new things the same, but sometimes I can't. By entering the site through the home page http://www.deltablues.com you will always have the fresh copy and know about all the fresh things... this is why we have a home page.

So is all this why I'm getting the Nullpoint error message when trying to get into the chat room?

We have made a major change today and a major discovery. The change is somewhat invisible to you all but I might as well let you in on it. We changed our network to a new set of IP addresses. We used to be on the 207.103.203.130 network and are now on 207.103.42.130. None of this matter to you but there may be a delay in filtering the name and traffic to the new IP's.

Also, we got mudcat.org ordered and almost ready. This will eliminate the bounce to onstage computers. Our plan is to get everyone over to mudcat.org eventually. We will use deltablues.com as a mirror for a while (up to 6 monhts) and may do something else with it later.

The discovery was who is at fault for the unreliable nature of the mudcat. And The Winner is: Bell Atlantic. "Their lines are dirty" is what we were told. So we are shooting for a refund of the last few months and to get them out here to fix it. I'll keep you all informed.

Anyway, we are on our way to a more wonderful mudcat. Today was such a bitch. We were having so much trouble we spent all day fixing things until we figured that since we're down anyway we might as well do the switcheroo.

Though, now we are so broke eviction is a possibility. So if anyone has thought about donating but hasn't please do or we'll be on the street along with the Mudcat. Thanks.
