It depends on the area receiving the effect (direct or indirect) of the stroking; oftyen, in males, the cuve appears to be that stroking removes wrinkles up to a point, and if continued past that point tends to cause wrinkles to return. Interesting, huh? Isn't science fun? I am looking for experimenteers to help me work out a reliable data set on this one....

Stroking doesn't do anything for my wrinkles. Not that I actually have any. Well, maybe one or two...

I always thought the real victims of second hand smoke were the poor janitors who have to pick butts out of the urinals.

So...if you're already wrinkled...does stroking help ease that condition?

Stroking, however, does NOT make you wrinkled!

I saw a tv programme, many years ago, and they showed twin women, aged in late 40's or early 50's. One smoked and the other didn't. The smoker had lots of fine wrinkles all over her face and the non-smoker didn't - her skin was smooth and fine. There may have been other causes, but as I recall, the programme stated that in almost every other respect their health and lifestyle was almost the same.

Ever since I have observed women who smoke a lot and noticed that more often than not they have those fine wrinkles, and I have especially noticed them around the mouth - lots of little vertical lines.

Women who have spent a lot of time in the sun, i.e. sun tanning, seem to be affected worse, in my unscientific, although reasonably long term observations.

Helen (in beachside Newcastle, Oz, where sun tanning used to be the norm until a decade or so ago when the government started sun exposure awareness campaigns)

Tossing in offhand quotes from famous movies ages you too, LH.

I wonder if they used Joni Mitchell as a test subject...

Smoking unquestionably ages people's skin, particularly their face and neck.

Unfortunately, so do a whole whack of other things, so us non-smokers tend to get wrinkled too, as time goes by.

Smoking just makes you look old. It's too much sun that causes wrinkles. ;-)

A rigorous, scientific and statistically unassailable study will prove conclusively that completing sexual liaisons makes men wrinkled, at least in certain key areas. All you have to do is define your time-window of interest with sufficient rigor and you can prove 'most any old thing. Speaking of any old thing, how's Spaw?

It is also true that being born can be proven to cause wrinkles due to the delta in distribution of fluid in the ambient spatial envelope usually observed during the state transition.

frowning and smoking while taking a shower will give you wrinkles too.

Stay too long in the shower, and you get noticeably older aws well...

Choosing your ancestors for smooth skin is helpful too...

Just thought we could add this as well! It has recently been established exactly how smoking causes irreversible damage to skin cells. (Sorry I don't have a link to the news item).
