Subject: RE: How many Mudcatters does it take... From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 09 Jul 01 - 02:30 AM I agree with evrything Don said, I have been here 3 months now, I came here as Guest-john, looking for song lyrics, I have found the members here to be really friendly and helpful.recently there has been Guest/Guests posting with noting to really say, this reminds me of small children (8 or 9 year olds) knocking on your door and then running away.I wish they would at least say something.I spend a lot of my spare time at this site, but dont post much because either the subject in question does not interst me or I feel I have nothing really worth saying, but I have always been made to feel welcome.john |

Subject: RE: How many Mudcatters does it take... From: Don Firth Date: 08 Jul 01 - 07:54 PM Just a general comment:-- Many people appear on Mudcat identified only as "GUEST." Some have a question -- about a song, a musical instrument, a singer, a particular CD, or . . . well, in short, the guest is looking for information. And they have come to a place where such information is readily available -- or at least where there are people who will do their best to find an answer. Often a guest will have some information to contribute and they generously do so. Frequently, said guest will join, and from then on identify themselves with their actual name (many do) or some "handle," which, over a period of time is essentially as good as using their name. I blundered in sometime late in 1999, lurked for awhile, then on a thread discussing a subject I had some knowledge about, I felt impelled to contributed my two-bits worth. I was recognized as a newcomer and immediately welcomed very warmly. I subsequently joined, and have found Mudcat to be a marvelous resource for all kinds of information, a place where I can offer my own contributions from time to time, and a place where many really neat people are more than willing to offer encouragement and support for anything from first attempts to learn to play an instument, through one's first gig, on up to when a fellow Mudcatter undergoes major surgery. During the almost two years I've been around, I have yet to see anything even vaguely resembling an "anti-GUEST jihad." What I have seen is the occasional guest getting pretty thoroughly hosed down when they act like jackasses. I have also seen the same thing happen to a few old-timers who occasionally act like jackasses. If GUEST is actually seeking information or actually has something to contribute, I suggest that they

Subject: RE: How many Mudcatters does it take... From: Amos Date: 08 Jul 01 - 07:25 PM You got the rights of it Rob -- a slow news day, in the middle of summer vacation, brings the slimy and juvenile ones out of the woodwork, like so many newborn termites.... A |

Subject: RE: How many Mudcatters does it take... From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Jul 01 - 06:35 PM The real problem is that we still have not definitively answered the question: "What is folk mus-" (MFFFT! BLFFFTTTT! MMMMMPPH!) - LH |
Subject: RE: How many Mudcatters does it take... From: Amos Date: 08 Jul 01 - 06:09 PM Guest: I'll try again, sucker tho I be: your paranoia and bizarre indirections don't communicate half as well as you obviously could if you meant to. It is REALLY hard to dig what you are trying to say, and I really meant it when I suggested that you stop a bit and examine WHICH problem you really are seeking to remedy with the current collection of posts. If you can do that much, and get the right problem identified, you will be way ahead, mate. What you seem to be missing is how your own ill-use of the communication channel is what brings about your percieved "jihad", becaue your own responsibility isn't working right, man. You could call it a maturity thing, or whatever you like, but the bottomn line is your projection of blame on others is not very persuasive, being devoid of specifics, being without a real signature, and being free of any effort to improve things. So what IS the real problem? A |

Subject: RE: How many Mudcatters does it take... From: Amos Date: 08 Jul 01 - 04:06 PM Suggest you take some time to find out what the problem really is, Mister Do. I don't think this approach is actually addressing it, but only you can answer the question. If you could pose the problem right, you might be able to find a more effective solution to it. Regards, A |
