Subject: Grow up? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 26 Oct 01 - 06:05 PM you first 'guest'... in the end all you can do is laugh at death?? Isn't that exactly what the people celebrating in the streets on Sept. 11th were doing?? Ya know, the ones that pissed off the Americans to no end... You sure as hell weren't laughing then! So take your bigoted, inflammatory 'cartoon' and cram it with walnuts! If you can find room up there beside your head! I thought this was exactly the sort of bigoted, hate mongering that the mods here were going to delete... :-/ |
Subject: RE: I love it! From: Kim C Date: 26 Oct 01 - 05:10 PM I am simply amazed that all the Bush-haters have not taken delight in the little caricature of him beating the drum. :-) |
Subject: RE: I love it! From: GUEST Date: 26 Oct 01 - 05:07 PM aww grow up Clinton.... we laugh in the face of adversity and create jokes to lesson the anger and sadness. in the end all we can do is laugh at death, because we are all going to die.. how we die is another matter... |

Subject: RE: I love it! From: SharonA Date: 26 Oct 01 - 11:07 AM But Murray, they'd only know what people answering the survey SAID they sang in the shower! ...which would be: (a) what they remembered singing the most in the shower but not necessarily what they did sing most often; and (b) what they weren't too embarrassed to admit singing in the shower, even in a survey! I want hard data! (not hard water, though) ;^) |
Subject: RE: I love it! From: Kim C Date: 26 Oct 01 - 10:26 AM There used to be a car stereo shop here in Nashville that used the Banana Boat Song for their jingle. :-) While some of you have disliked this little cartoon, I would like to point out that propaganda cartoons and films were big business during the second World War. The release of Disney's Peter Pan was postponed because Walt was making - guess what - animated propaganda films. Now, granted, this little foray is the acme of silliness, and probably does not qualify as a serious piece of propaganda. I did, however, consider it good for a few minutes of comic relief, something I crave in large amounts these days. |

Subject: RE: I love it! From: Murray MacLeod Date: 25 Oct 01 - 08:37 PM Sharon, they would know by asking a random sample of a couple of hundred people and asking them "Do you sing in the shower, and if so what song do you usually like to sing ?" I must say I have never sen such a survey reported, and they certainly didn't ask me. Hasn't there been a Mudcat thread yet titled "What songs do you sing in the shower ? ". Just a matter of time, I guess. Murray |
Subject: RE: I love it! From: SharonA Date: 25 Oct 01 - 06:15 PM Heard a sound-bite of a radio interview with Harry Belafonte this morning. He says he's not surprised about this particular parody (one of an infinite number since he recorded the original). The interviewer also said "Day-o" is the most-sung song in the shower (how would they know?). |
