I thought that she had dropped out of sight for a while ( as far as I know) but a new track turned up on a radio show the other day- I think it might have been Archi Fishers' Travelling Folk show on Radio Scotland. So I guess she's been recording again.

I'll ask around...

Cheers

Scabby, what's Carole Laula doing? I had her on my show a few years ago and really liked her music.

Rick, it is certainly the case that a number of the songwriters and singers featured in "One Singer, One Song" have passed on, but many are stll very active. I see Jim McKenna and Jim Brown regularly, Adam McNaughtan is still singing and writing fantastic songs, as are many others.

Cheers

Jeez, I shoulda posted ages ago to congratulate Ewan and Katherine for this beautiful book! When Ewan came to my school just about a year ago, he simply charmed the kiddies- and when I popped in the cd that came with the book, they cheered when they heard his voice singing "Coulter's Candy"- without a review, they sang the whole song along with him!
What I like about the book is the variety- from children's songs and street songs to ballads to fiddle tunes, and some explanation of all. It's a slim volume attempting to encapsulate Scottish music, and as a snapshot look, to this 'Mercan of Scots descent it looks like a good job well done!

And if you can find it, grab a copy of "One Singer One Song". Still entertains me after all these years. Many of the singers profiled have probably passed but their mini-biographies really give a picture of Glasgow's folk scene.

Oops - forgot to put in the address! The book is mentioned under 'New Projects', but no up-to-date info yet.

I'm just now listening to 'Travelling Folk' on Radio Scotland. Ewan McVicar is being interviewed about his new book, "co-written with Katherine Campbell under the working title of Traditional Scottish Songs and Music: Songs, Stories and Music from Scotland", as his website says. My reception isn't too good, so hopefully Ewan will shortly find the time to update his website and provide us with more details (maybe even a table of contents?!)
Congratulations, and I hope it is well received!
