Skip,if you get a letter from a lady in Ascot asking you to sit on a kazoo, ignore it!
RtS (perhaps I could have phrased that better!)

Skipjack, maybe you should House Detectives over there to look for evidence to support the poltergeist theory!*BG*

Sorry this happened. Good for you, Patrich, for being so understanding and kind. All my best to you and Allan.

Well Mick, I've been known to mis-interpret a post or two meself.

Patrish, someone once sat on my fiddle. He somehow managed to bend the steel in the shoulder rest, but everything else was intact. He felt horrible, even though no damage had been done to the instrument. After initial shock on my part, I figured I could get a lot of milage out of the incident. Now when he walks into the session, he asks "Got a seat?" I point to a chair...he points to my fiddle. Friends who are imperfect and sometimes have accidents with your property are still far more important than the property.

My love and best wishes to you and Allan.

Well........I don't know what to say, except I think you must be confusing me with someone else! Recent events have caused me not to worry about broken instruments - its sad but what the heck. I am quite selfish really, I want to take good care of Allan because I am er, more than fond of him.

I do have a big heart, and it occasionaly gets me into trouble.

Its very good to know that I have such kind friends, thank you
love
Patrish x

Let me add to the chorus. In fact, I want to add a personal story. A month or so ago I was up on my high horse about a post in the Mudcat. Those of you who know me know that I do this this from time to time, much to my later regret. Turns out that the post that I was ranting about (and unjustifyably so, I might add) had come from Patrish, and not the person I thought. This wonderful person drops me a PM to let me know that I was wrong. The tone of the post was as if she felt bad that her post had spawned my completely unjustified rave. I immediately offered to come on and apologize to which she replied that I shouldn't because she was worried about MY image. What a complete pearl of great worth she is. I was wrong, she was wronged, and she was worried about me. I determined to wait for the right time. It is now.

Patrish, love, you are one of the things that are right in this world. This demonstrates what a great heart you have, and what joy you bring others. Thanks for being who and what you are, dear friend. YOU are one of the most respected people here, and I am grateful that you allow me to be your friend.

Love and affection,

Mick

Skipjack, what you say is true, she is a GEM, and one of the nicest, most compassionate , caring people I have ever had the pleasure to meet, and for her support to Alan she deserves a medal, mind you, she would only see it as simply what friends do!! and if I step into my garden and look north I can see the glow in the sky from her blushes, and I am happy to add my name and applause for such a nice person

LOL! I'm having a bit of difficulty with the "removal of fireplace for renovation"........over here, fireplaces are generally built right into the wall, renovation of fireplace would require removal of the wall and destruction of said fireplace (grin). Your story makes a good point for keeping instruments in cases........

'jack, just thank your lucky stars it wasn't a Guarnarius (or worse!!)

Someone once sat on a trestle-table, collapsed it, and sent my Martin 12 string to an early grave, after a gig. My initial reaction (sheer horror) was quickly replaced by sympathy as the 'sitter' ran crying hysterically from the room! What the hell, it's just a few hunks of wood. So Bravo Patrish!

It all happened in me back room, Sorch. We have a fireplace that is 56 years older than your country, and had it removed for refurbishing. The finished article was offered up to the wall, and, me being me, stood there for several months. The mantelpiece was used for holding up cups of tea, tools, music scores, and anything else that didn't fall off. It was also the secure location for Pat's fiddle.

To this day I don't know what happened, but am not unsympathetic to the idea that a poltergeist gave the fireplace a hefty nudge, and the whole issue came crashing down onto the concrete floor of the unfinished room. Cups, tools and papers were spread across the room. The fiddle would've probably fared better had it followed the rest of the missiles, but sadly it slipped into the gap and fell 5 feet directly onto a brick hearth. It impacted on the port quarter, and split a shake right up to the sound hole, and beyond to the neck end.

A professional repair is well in excess of the market value of the intsrument, but that isn't the point. And yes, I did pick up the tab! It is all sorted with Pat; I just wanted to purr about how sweet she was over the whole sad business.

While what you describe is wonderful in its own right, Skipjack, Patrish has already demonstrated her true beauty through the dedication and devotion she has shown her friend, Alan. Who could wish for a better friend than Patrish?

Well, they're temperamental.

Fiddles I mean.

Hell, they're known to completely come apart while stored under a bed.

Hope you picked up the tab for lunch. Also part of the therapy!

What is the story, anyway?

W-O

Now we need the rest of the story........how did you come to trash her fiddle? I can tell you that if you trashed mine, you would get more than a poke in the eye........

I've just had a liquid lunch with Pat, (Timmy Taylors, yum!) and had to tell her I've smashed up her fiddle. A normal reaction would be to poke the vandal in the eye, but our Pat took the news without any recrimination whatsoever.

She is a thoroughly bloody nice blokess, and I just wanted to shout that out, as part of my therapy for trashing her instrument.
