Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: VoxFox Date: 15 Dec 02 - 10:10 PM Well, I am another lurker and very proud to be so. In the 15 months I've been a member I may have posted about 15 times. But I read here daily. I love the people, the topics, the BS, everything. In my head I wish Happy B-day to every one but am reluctant to write it, and I don't know why. I cried when LJC passed away although I've never had any contact with him but I loved his posts. I'm happy when some one has accomplished something grand and I'm sad too when some one is having difficulties but I never ever post, I don't know why. But I am going to change that way of thinking and try to post more often. If I'm ignored, that's OK. I'll post again. I really will. (I may not have a lot to give but what I've got I'll give to you....(Beatles))See you in the threads...VF Marjie :o) |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 15 Dec 02 - 12:32 AM I lurked on the MudCat page. And the only, ONLY, thing that I did was wrong; Was to woo a Mudcat maid.
NEVER POST ANYTHING YOU WOULD NOT WANT YOUR MOTHER TO READ!
Play hard, have fun, be safe |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Lurcio Date: 14 Dec 02 - 06:30 PM o.k. you shamed me into it. After a few weeks of lurking and browsing I bit the bullet and joined - hence the nickname. Why did it take so long? Well the erudite nature of half the threads made me think that I had nothing to contribute. then i remembered a song that has been plaguing me for years, so I put in a Lyric Req |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: delphinium Date: 14 Dec 02 - 01:21 PM Oops I posted that without the last line of the chorus. I came up with: cho: We'll lurk and lurk and lurk Like Billy the Berk the Berk the Berk We're searchers of the Mudcat space We keep feeding our addiction to Mudcat Trepidacious in every case. |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: delphinium Date: 14 Dec 02 - 12:02 PM Good one Santa! Here's another, pretty bad but the chorus phrase just popped into my head. (I bet Lily the Pink would be a lurker too.) Now here's the story--a little bit gory A little bit silly--a little bit sad-- Of Billy the Berk and addiction to Mudcat And how it drove him to the bad. That nice MMario welcomed us thereio And invited us to post He's outing our secret addiction to Mudcat Now he's the greeter and the host. cho: We'll lurk and lurk and lurk Like Billy the Berk the Berk the Berk We're searchers of the Mudcat space We keep feeding our addiction to Mudcat [Now he's the greeter and the host.] Amos the adman, for sure not a bad man But those CDs changed his head All because of addiction to Mudcat Now he's there in every thread. A lurker from Texas was trying to vex us He would not share his songs He got a bad dose of addiction to Mudcat Now he posts them and belongs. Edain and SharonA, Marion, diesel and Fay, Mudlark, Guest and you and me We have all got an addiction to Mudcat Always one more link to see. Billy the Berk he, had such a quirk, he Got square eyes and a cold stiff butt All night trolling from addiction to Mudcat Billy was in such a rut. Billy died and went up to heaven Celestial digitrads always work He took along with him addiction to Mudcat Now the Herald Angels lurk. === No offense intended to anyone, I'm GLAD Amos mentions the CDs everywhere and I think I'll order them today *BG* |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: GUEST,Pat Cooksey. Date: 14 Dec 02 - 08:08 AM I have to admit to lurking here for the last six months, I don't have much of earth shattering importance to contribute but enjoy reading what others have to say. Happy Christmas to you all. Pat. |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Edain Date: 14 Dec 02 - 07:45 AM replace/spell/type :-P |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Santa Date: 14 Dec 02 - 06:49 AM Just as well Edain can't spell, or she'd have given away my identity. Lurk, lurk away Lurk, lurk away Lurk, lurk away. Where no-one can see me Where no-one can find me Where no-one can hurt me Show me the way Help me to say All that I need to All that I needed you gave mne All that I wanted you made me When I stumbled you saved me With thanks to Coope Boyes and Simpson "Lay Me low" |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: GUEST,MikeOQuinn Date: 14 Dec 02 - 06:17 AM Remember, if you can't be a 'catter, be a 'catter's supporter. Err... something like that... -J |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Gurney Date: 14 Dec 02 - 05:15 AM Lurk if you like, post if you like, respond privately if you want to. Mudcatters are nice folk, and supportive. |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Marion Date: 13 Dec 02 - 07:55 PM I was surprised once when I was getting to know a Toronto musician (and amazing songwriter) and he suddenly realized, "Oh, you're Marion from Mudcat..." Hello R.S. if you're reading this! Marion |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Edain Date: 13 Dec 02 - 07:48 PM I must admit to having lurked on here for a -long time- (I'm not prepared to admit how long) before being dragged out into the posting world by a few fellow Shellbacks, although I lurk on most places I'm on... If anyone sees a catter by the name of Sant (yes really) post, encourage him to do so more as it's my Dad and he keeps telling me how he nearly posted but didn't |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: John Routledge Date: 13 Dec 02 - 07:42 PM I am still new enough to remember the adrenalin rush when I pushed the Submit button for the first time. Everybody should try it at least once. :0) |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: diesel Date: 13 Dec 02 - 07:39 PM OOOOPPPPPSSSSS ! That was supposed to be I've NEVER felt unwelcome ! And of all the posts - what a time to make a typo... SORRY ! I do feel welcome - I do , I do, I do Diesel - in severly stressed state.... |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: diesel Date: 13 Dec 02 - 07:36 PM I can't sing I can't play So I'll post occasionally But still Lurk away... Actually whenever I do post - I've felt unwelcome - thanks mudcatters ! Hello ! rgds Diesel ( who lurks from work and doesn't always have the chance to surf, at least not on a regular basis) |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Lepus Rex Date: 13 Dec 02 - 06:25 PM I like to think of myself as a "lurker" here. I post maybe 20 or so times a month, sometimes less, sometimes more. But I do more reading than posting, so, "lurker." Plus, "lurking" sounds cool. ---Lepus Rex |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Just Amy Date: 13 Dec 02 - 05:10 PM I know that I post sometimes but mostly I lurk (what a weird term). I love to read what everyone else is doing. Keep it up! |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: MikeOQuinn Date: 13 Dec 02 - 05:02 PM *stands up* Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm a Mudcat Lurkaholic... I've been lurking around here for almost 3 years, and this is still the first site I recommend to people when they're looking for folk song lyrics (especially when it's a song I sing... that way they don't just get my version, heh). I'm a celtic musician in the Austin, TX, USA area. Since it's a little harder to find music to the songs I sing where I am, this site is a godsend! My coworkers think I'm crazy for sitting up at all hours of the night, trolling the digitrad. I tell them they're right. Eh, enough rambling from me. Lurkers of the 'trad unite! -J |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Maryrrf Date: 13 Dec 02 - 04:40 PM I too have met several "lurkers". I find it odd that they wouldn't just join (hey, it's free!) but they were quite happy just looking in from the sidelines. |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Mudlark Date: 13 Dec 02 - 02:49 AM If lurking is your thing, this is a great place to do it. I often indulge myself, especially when I don't have time (or information) to contribute. It's just a great place to hang around. Hope to see you around...I'm the one standing in the back, laughing occasionally, nodding in agreement or frowning in thought... |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Naemanson Date: 12 Dec 02 - 01:33 PM I have had the same experience as MMario. I have met people who are familiar with the site, lurk, grab lyrics, and don't contribute at all. We each do what we are comfortable with. So, to all you lurkers, Happy Holidays! |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: SharonA Date: 12 Dec 02 - 12:25 PM Then there are those of us who post and lurk: I read more threads than I post to. For instance, I tend to lurk in a lot of music threads to which I have nothing to contribute but in which I am interested (and from which I learn a lot!). So I'll add my greetings to those who lurk without posting: Greetings! Welcome! ...and happy holidays! |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Mr Red Date: 12 Dec 02 - 11:30 AM Not all of us posters are that noticeable - I know one or two who insist they are lurkers but if they don't reveal their handle how do you know? |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Hrothgar Date: 12 Dec 02 - 06:31 AM Onya, Amos!! |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Big Mick Date: 10 Dec 02 - 12:07 PM Great thread, Mario. I agree with it's intent fully. Thanks for "lurking". I hope you will begin posting and share your knowledge and your insights with us. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Amos Date: 10 Dec 02 - 12:00 PM And let me add, that even if you are visiting only to lurk -- you can STILL buy the Mudcat Sampler CDs from Dick Greenhaus at CAMSCO music and find out what these weird, wonderful, whacky folkies actually sound like!! I bet you'll like 'em!! A |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: wysiwyg Date: 10 Dec 02 - 09:55 AM Lurkers make it worthwhile to keep Mudcat afloat.... I too have corresponded with many who come for the songs we keep madly posting and posting and posting, and in the DT. I try never to forget that far more people are paying attention to what we say and do, and how we function with one another, than we can assume from the postings in response. Lurk away! Post if you want to! And if not, that's fine too! ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: Fay Date: 10 Dec 02 - 09:42 AM I've been a lurker for some time now, I admit. and thanks to the oportunity of being able to just pop in unnoticed has given me the confidence to stick my neck out a little further and do a few postings. Very friendly people have been too. It's like being able to wander round at a party listening in to what conversations are taking place, and decide what you want to talk about without the other people being offended that you've just walked off and left them. No need to speak to another soul again. Hurrah for the lurkers! |
Subject: Greetings to 'Lurkers' From: MMario Date: 10 Dec 02 - 09:35 AM Something that happened to me over the weekend made me realize that the MudCat extends far beyond just those people who post here - beyond even those who drop in and ask for lyrics etc. Some people just read... Saturday night I spent several wonderful hours in a round robin sing - a wide variety of songs - marvelous voices. At least two of the participants admitted they read the mudcat; but they don't post. As Max would say; Welcome! Welcome!Welcome!and now - KNOWING you guys are out lurking - and that you have valuable contributions to make. Please! Post! Discuss! Join Paltalk! Come to the chatroom! |
