Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Horace the Carousel Horse From: Alaska Mike Date: 25 Feb 04 - 03:46 PM Hi Carly, I was happy to help, your thread reminded me of a fun song that I had gotten away from singing. The Getaway is a big maybe for me right now, I am having some unexpected expenses and my Getaway fund is dwindling. I'm still hopeful though. Say hi to Bruce for me. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Horace the Carousel Horse From: Carly Date: 25 Feb 04 - 02:20 PM Hooray!!! I knew Icould count on the Mudcat! We listened to Burle Ives as children, but we did not have that recording (maybe I'm showing my age here!) My sister first heard it as a young adult.Thank you, Cool Beans, MMario and especially Alaska Mike! Will we see you at the Getaway this year, I hope? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Horace the Carousel Horse From: Alaska Mike Date: 25 Feb 04 - 01:43 PM Hi MMario, I looked it up on Burl's site just to make sure before I posted it. It has been many years since I last sang it. This is one of the songs I learned as a child and sang for my kids when they were small. It has always been a fun song to sing and listen to. Mike |

Subject: Lyr Add: HORACE THE HORSE (from Burl Ives) From: Alaska Mike Date: 25 Feb 04 - 11:27 AM I remember this off an old Burl Ives album. HORACE THE HORSE (from Burl Ives) Horace the horse on the merry-go-round Went up and down, round and round He's been sad since the day he found He's the very last horse on the merry-go-round The music began and away they go High and low, to and fro Poor old Horace would always say "I'm the very last horse again today." How he tried and tried and tried But he just never could win. Horace cried and cried and cried 'Cause all the other horses were ahead of him Then came the day on the merry-go-round When Horace turned, looked around Then said "Gosh oh gee -- I'm the very first horse on the merry-go-round, The others are following me!" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Horace the Carousel Horse From: Cool Beans Date: 24 Feb 04 - 06:59 PM Carly, your sister is not delusional. I heard the song as a child, but I remember only the last lines: I'm the very first horse on the the merry-go-round 'Cause the others are a-following me. |
Subject: Lyr Req: Horace the Carousel Horse From: Carly Date: 23 Feb 04 - 06:49 PM My sister, who teaches preschoolers, asked me if I knew a song about a carousel horse named Horace who is very unhappy as he goes 'round and 'round, because he is always last. Someone saves the day by pointing out that, on a merry-go-round, the last horse could also be the first horse. This is the first time she has ever completely stumped me with a song request; I have never heard of Horace. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
