Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Helen Date: 24 Jul 04 - 07:37 PM I think that, to fit in with the musical style of the Inkspots, you should also play "My Canary Has Circles Under His Eyes". And Spike Jones as suggested above. :-D Helen |
Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Mudlark Date: 24 Jul 04 - 07:28 PM Clinton...congrats on upcoming wedding. I already am an Ink Spots junkie, have been since I first heard Java Jive. Re music, For lush instrumentals, classy and romantic, Paul Westson can't be beat. The Music for Easy Listening CD is not Musak-y, despite the title (most cuts originally recorded in the 50's I think), and has lovely renditions of such songs as You Go to My Head, All the Thngs you Are, and My Romance (nice vocal version available from Mel Torme...I know, the Velvet Fog, but straight ahead he can be pretty good). June Christy (vocals, w/Pete Ruggolo/orch): Midnite Sun, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise, I'll Take Romance. Julie London has a pretty good romantic voice too, on such oldies as I'm Glad There is You. As I'm not vry familiar with the original 3 songs/performers you listed, ignore if these are far off the mark. |

Subject: Lyr Add: GULF COAST HIGHWAY (Nanci Griffith) From: open mike Date: 24 Jul 04 - 01:19 PM nanci Griffith sings a song which is such a beautiful love song that it has brought tears to my eyes...Gulf Coast Highway...here it is..i love the images of flight... GULF COAST HIGHWAY (Nanci Griffith / James Hooker / Daniel Flowers) ©1988 Wing & Wheel Music, (BMI) Rick Hall Music, Inc. / Danny Flowers Music, (ASCAP) Gulf coast highway He worked the rails He worked the rice fields With their cool dark wells He worked the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico The only thing we've ever owned Is this old house here by the road And when he dies he says he'll catch some blackbird's wings And he will fly away to heaven Come some sweet blue-bonnet spring She walked through springtime, when I was home The days were sweet The nights were warm The seasons change, the jobs would come, the flowers fade This old house felt so alone When the work took me away And when she dies she said she'd catch some blackbird's wings And she will fly away to heaven Come some sweet blue-bonnet spring Highway 90, the jobs are gone We tend our garden Te set the sun This is the only place on earth bluebonnets grow And once a year they come and go At this old house here by the road When we die we say we'll catch some blackbird's wings We will fly away to heaven Come some sweet blue-bonnet spring Cause when we die we say we'll catch some blackbird's wings We will fly away together Come some sweet blue-bonnet spring |

Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Helen Date: 24 Jul 04 - 06:19 AM Clinton, One of my most favourite music websites is: Smick & Smodoo's World Don't be put off by the name. They have the best collection of popular songs from early to mid 20th Century that I have found. I like their choices, and I like the arrangements they have. There are hundreds of songs there to choose from, all with midis to click on. Just make sure you have plenty of time to listen to them all. It's addictive. Oh, and a couple of suggestions: Always (I'll be loving you, Always, With a love that's true, Always...etc), and Apple Blossom Time (I'll be with you in Apple Blossom Time, I'll be with you to change your name to mine....etc) Helen |
Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: GUEST,Norval Date: 24 Jul 04 - 03:11 AM Clinton, you can't be a young cockerel anymore. MAYBE was recorded by the Ink spots 1942-06-19, and A KISS TO BUILD A DREAM ON was recorded by Armstrong on 1951-07-24. Here is a short list of older songs in which the theme, mood and lyrics seem (to me) appropriate to your request. Ink Spots - If I Didn't Care Ink Spots - MY Prayer Ink Spots - I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire Ink Spots - I'll Get By (As Long As I Have You) McGuire Sisters - Sincerely McGuire Sisters - Ev'ry Day Of My Life Mills Brothers - Be My Life's Companion Tommy Dorsey - I'm Getting Sentimental Over You (instrumental) Harry James - You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want To Do It) Guy Lombardo - I'm Confess'n That I Love You Bing Crosby - You Belong To My Heart Leon Payne - I Love You Because (You Understand) Bob Wills - Send Me A Red Rose Going through my CDs I was suprised how many songs are the "Hurtin'" type, like: I'm Dotting Each I With a Tear Drop, or: I Laugh When I Think How I Cried Over You. My best wishes to You and Herself |
Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: GUEST,LadyJean Date: 23 Jul 04 - 11:55 PM I always thought, in the unlikely event that I marry, that I would like to have "Come Give Me Your Hand" at my wedding. You might consider Piaf's "Je Ne Regret Rien" or "La Vie En Rose". Now I always sing "Sorry the Day I Was Married" to newlyweds, but they don't appreciate it. |

My crowd over here reckon a couple aren't married until they have had the Wedding Song sung for them . And check out Pete Atkin singing and playing the songs he and Clive James wrote between them . |
Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Clinton Hammond Date: 23 Jul 04 - 10:47 PM Ya... Herself is already a big fan of Dianna Krall! Trad English is NOT at all what I'm looking for in this particualr case LF... but thanks anyway... |
Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Jeri Date: 23 Jul 04 - 09:56 PM Try A Wonderful World by Tony Bennett & K.D. Lang. That's the CD title, and the song's on it. I had a listen to "You Can Depend On Me," and it sounded like it fit. Sounded pretty damned good, too. There's that "People who bought this also bought..." thingie. I clicked on Dianna Krall, and she sounded pretty good too. |
Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Jul 04 - 09:20 PM OK Clinton - Hows about Beautiful Dreamer ? Pick your own artiste !! The Wedding Song from the Copper Family (IF you can stand some Trad English) And 'Have You Got a Biro I could Borrow' From Pete Atkin and Clive James - A REALLY Good contemporart love song . |

Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Clinton Hammond Date: 23 Jul 04 - 08:07 PM Jeri... it's more the feeling of the music I'm looking for... "One More Kiss Dear", and "A Kiss To Build A Dream On" aren't necessarily about breaking up... "AKTBADO", is about being together, and preparing for that time when you might be apart, sure... "One More Kiss Dear" says that sure we'll apart for now, but we'll be together again soon... These are great because Herself and I do spend a lot of time apart... her working days, and me gigging nights... "a clue what sort of songs we wouldn't get flamed for suggesting." I know that I'm not being as clear as some might wish, but I'm not 'flaming' anybody here who doesn't deserve it... Those 3 songs have a destinctive sound and mood to the music, that I'd love to get more of to keep up as back-ground during dinner... You, LF and Moo have been at least willing to help... the rest of the wankers posting to this thread can get bent and stay there.... They're a fine example of everything that's wrong with Mudcat these days... And I'd like to thank them for cluttering up a perfectly good music thread... Oh, and Ta PG fer trying to suggest a better thread title! :-) |

Subject: RE: Need Music Suggestions From: Jeri Date: 23 Jul 04 - 05:32 PM Clinton, I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what "along these lines" means. Maybe Maybe you'll think of me when you are all alone Maybe the one who is waiting for you Will prove untrue, then what will you do? Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again And maybe I'll say "Maybe" I don't get it. The songs are all about breaking up or leaving, and they're for a wedding. I'd like to help if I could, and I'm sure others would, if we had a clue what sort of songs we wouldn't get flamed for suggesting. |

Subject: Need Music Suggestions From: Clinton Hammond Date: 23 Jul 04 - 04:40 AM So, I'm looking at making a mix to be played in the background of the dinner at our wedding... Somewhere between an hour and 2... I have three songs in mind for the 'feel' I think we're going for... "A Kiss To Build A Dream On" Louis Anderson "One More Kiss Dear" From the movie Bladerunner "Maybe" By The Ink Spots If you know the three songs (or even 2 outa...) and can suggest more titles and artists that are along these lines, we'd be very grateful... Also, if someone can suggest a better title for this thread, maybe we can have someone change it so it's more descriptive... |
