Jim passed away in October 2011 after many many years of heart issues. His widow Barbera still lives there and he left 6 sons and one daughter that are known to be his offspring. |

Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: GUEST,Folk live Date: 04 Nov 04 - 02:22 PM The gig is a one off, though one of a number in the Harlow area, organised this year by a small steering commitee. Previous gigs have been concert format. This will be in a pre-booked bar of a pub, so hoping to have a more informal atmosphere. If the pub proves suitable, there may well be further events. Everyone welcome |
Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: GUEST Date: 02 Nov 04 - 01:59 PM You need to ask Simon Vogel if it's a one=off gig. Jim Bassett lives in Padstow. |
Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: breezy Date: 02 Nov 04 - 12:06 PM I think he lives in St Merryn. Is this a 'one-off' gig then? All the best |

Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: Leraud Date: 01 Nov 04 - 11:34 AM Jim Bassett does live in the West Country - Padstow. He told me that he opened the first folk club in Essex at the Essex Skipper in Harlow. Jim is still heavily involved in folk, both with the Cornish Festival and the Bodmin Folk Club. |
Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: GUEST Date: 01 Nov 04 - 08:56 AM This brings back memories. The Essex Skipper was the first folk club I ever went to in the sixties when I was still at school. it was run then by Jim Bassett,(among others) whom I think went down to the West Country. Good luck with the concert. We try to get to the Lion at Eastwick on a Tuesday but as we live south of the river find that Blackwall Tunnel is always closed South bound at weekends and quite often lately in the week as well. |
Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: GUEST,Folk live Date: 31 Oct 04 - 12:30 PM One of the purposes of the gig, apart from a good evening, is to reclaim authentic music for our local pubs. Rather than the standard diet of Sky football and karaoke. |

Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Oct 04 - 05:48 PM Fiest time I ever came to Harlow was to sing at the Essex Skipper woith a bunch of Oxford Heritage people. But I'll be missing this one since I'll be in Venice. It should be a good night, with luck the first of more to come. The Skipper used to be a good pub, then went through a bad patch, but it seems back to the way it should be now. |
Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: GUEST,Mick Date: 30 Oct 04 - 05:29 PM There used to be a folk club at the Essex Skipper in the sixties early seventies, when I lived in the town. Brings back memories. Hope it goes well. |
Subject: RE: VickiandJonny. LynneandPat. Harlow 6/11 From: The Borchester Echo Date: 30 Oct 04 - 06:54 AM That sounds more than good enough to lure me out to Harlow! Both duos gave memorable performances at the great little Moreton Midsummer Festival and I look forward very much to seeing them again. |
