Hey,thanks for the compliments everyone.

Alanabit;Yes,I do have a recording of it somewhere in my stack of cd's. Nothing fancy, just something I recorded on a 4 track.
Glad to send you or anyone else a copy if you'd like.

Oddly enough,I wasn't actually watching the superbowl halftime show when Janet Jackson bared her breast on national TV.
I was watching a political debate on C-Span at the time.
So I was, actually, still looking at a pair of boobs!

DB.

I am blushing Seamus. I think the song is well out of date nowadays though. There is a preproduction recording of it from some years ago. I could send you a CD or an MP3 if you PM me.
Any chance of hearing your song Dharmabum?

Alan, this is one of my highest compiments - your rhyme and scansion is right up there with Tom Lehrer. Excellent!
Yours is a good 'un, too Dharmabum. Bob Hope would be rotating in his grave.

When I first saw the title, I groaned and thought it was going to be awful. Actually, it is a very good lyric and I agree with every word. How people can purport to be shocked by a breast but left unmoved by bombings, has always baffled me. There is a time and a place to be a little crass, so this is spot on. Thanks for posting.
In the attitude and approach of the lyric, it reminded me of something, which I knocked off in the middle of another one of those silly media storms a few years back. A sort of a bluegrass version would have appeared on my first album. However, by the time we recorded it, we had to drop it as it was no longer topical...

                                Bonking Bill's Lament

Has Billy been a bonking?
The right wing press is honking
That's what they all are lining up to say
They say the old draft dodger was busy with his todger
When Hilary was out at work one day
And everyone who thinks he was bonking Miss Lewinsky
Is lining up to have the man impeached
They're going to vent their fury and summon a Grand Jury
To see if his career can be beached

Forget about the fissile warhead on that Scud missile
Forget about infant mortality
Forget about inflation – What really grabs the nation
Is the issue of Big Bill's "morality"
So if they can find lipstick on the presidential dipstick
They'll throw his reputation in his face
A forty million budget should be enough to smudge it
And hound him out of office in disgrace

So now the burning issue's examining the tissue
Of what should constitute a president
They like 'em old and grey – not female, black or gay
And preferably sexually incontinent
For everyone who picks on dear Richard Millhouse Nixon
How many more would kick Bill Clinton out?
If PR men and Max Factor can get in a cracked ex actor
Have they really nothing else to bitch about?

I played this song at WYSIWYG'S spring Mudgather & promised Dick Greenhaus I'd post the lyrics.
A little late, but here it is.

A short comment on my reasons for writing this (2 1/2 years ago BTW)
The incident itself was in my opinion rather unimportant.
The reaction to the incident was totaly absurd.

Thanks For The Mammaries

We got corporation criminals,
Employment at a minimal,
& Jobs goin' overseas,
The homeless rate is risin',
The gays are exercisin',
Their right to get married,
Iraqi guns explodin,
Societies erodin,
& We're goin' straight down the tubes,
But life got real excitin',
When we all got a sightin',
Of Janet Jacksons Boob.

We got a government that's willin',
To do a lot of killin',
Leave your town a smolderin' wreck,
They say the president's a liar,
They saw his pants on fire,
When he stood upon that flight deck,
Fatcats gettin' fatter,
Climbin' up that corporate ladder,
While they're stepin' all over us,
But the big news of the day,
& It just won't go away,
Is Janet Jacksons Bust.
(ch)
I can't believe what I saw,
There it was just hangin' there in the raw,
I can't believe what I viewed,
There it was just a starin' at me in the nude.

I can't believe there's all this drama,
When they haven't found Osama,
& The world is frought with fear,
But people started yellin',
When Janet flashed her melon,
It's the headline of the year,
But when she got barechested,
Big money got invested,
In next years supergame,
Brought to you by Pepsi Cola,
& Janets areola,
It'll never be the same.
         (ch)
It's all I see on my TV,
Is her bejewelled mammary,
It's such a pornographic scene,
Just plastered all over my big wide TV screen.

I don't know why we're fussin'
Complainin' & a cussin',
About a little bit of skin,
Like a beacon on a lighthouse,
We got one in the Whitehouse,
But We don't put a bra on him,
& It's hardly worth a mention,
When the span of our attention's,
As short as the day is long,
When I end this little ditty,
We'll forget Janets titty,
& We'll sing a different song.
         (ch)
I don't know why they're up in arms,
A little bitty booby never done no one no harm,
Don't know what the fuss is all about,
Just cause some mammary got out.

Don't know why we're fussin',
Complainin' & a cussin',
About a little bit of skin.
