Subject: RE: Tune Req: Mountain Belle Schottische From: GUEST Date: 21 Jul 06 - 05:52 PM Thanks for all the info. I have found most of it in my trawling of the web. I know the tunes you all have found are the original. The clip mentioned of The New Victory Band, is the one I am after. It is a two part tune as opposed to a three part tune. It is for a 32 bar single couple dance of the same name. Thanks again. Laz |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Mountain Belle Schottische From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 21 Jul 06 - 02:57 PM There's a temporary file in that address, so it may not work for long. The "real" url of the Library of Congress 'American Memory' page is hidden at the bottom of the code: Mountain Belle Polka The abc quoted above is from the Village Music Project. It was made from notation in a music MS compiled by George Watson of Norfolk in the later 19th century. ABC can be converted to staff notation or midi online, at http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html or http://www.folkinfo.org/songs/abcconvert.php If using Concertina.net, remove any spaces at the beginning of lines before submitting. The first step in finding notation for tunes of this sort is always to search at J C's abc Tunefinder. Results can be returned as abc, staff or midi. The New Victory Band was some time ago now, so many people will not have heard of them. See this short review at Musical Traditions for some info: http://www.mustrad.org.uk/reviews/victory.htm |
