Subject: RE: BS: Scroogle search engine From: Bert Date: 22 Jan 07 - 02:15 AM ...how to stop Microsnot collecting info on XP users?.. Ha ha! they can't even get XP to work, so what the hell are they going to do with all that information. Their stupid "C" programmers won't be able to understand any of it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scroogle search engine From: Richard Bridge Date: 22 Jan 07 - 02:11 AM How can you use scroogle to searck for UK sites as you can Google? What about the multiple seach machines like metacrawler and dogpile? Are they as bad with their invasions of privacy as google? |
Subject: RE: BS: Scroogle search engine From: Stilly River Sage Date: 22 Jan 07 - 12:31 AM Booble is used to search for porn. I remember seeing that (or posting it) a couple of years ago. ("Miss December" on that home page looks like she's pumped full of silicone. They look like canteloupe on the half shell. There's no warranty as to the quality of the search on that site!) SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Scroogle search engine From: JohnInKansas Date: 21 Jan 07 - 08:29 PM I've run into a rare few sites that have been "hijacked" to display unauthorized messages, and based on these "encounters" I had the impression that the principal use of Scroogle was to search for porn. Google has imposed some "de-emphasis" of suspect hits in their results, so for that purpose perhaps a different engine is needed. Ads I've seen recently offer to "install links" to make Scroogle available (i.e. be your search engine) for that specific kind of search. One can Google Scroogle and get some information on the service, but the first few results (at Wiki, for example) are "limited" in the information offered. It appears that Scroogle simply "passes" your search request to Google, then "scrubs" the ads off before sending Google results back to you, (possibly after adding "paid commercial announcements," disguised as "not advertising" to the listing of results(?)). At the current level of advertising by Google, I don't find it difficult to just ignore it, without needing a "special service" to remove it. The "visible business plan" is too tenuously defined to rouse my interest, but maybe if Google continues to move toward more and better targeted advertising I might be inclined to investigate further. ... later ... ... or much later. Subject: RE: BS: Scroogle search engine From: Mingulay Date: 21 Jan 07 - 03:45 PM What happens if you try to connect to Scroogle via Google? |
Subject: RE: BS: Scroogle search engine From: Bill D Date: 21 Jan 07 - 01:05 PM Scroogle IS currently one way to search without anyone collecting info on you. Time will tell if they get popular enough for Google to try to stop them. |
