Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: menzze Date: 09 May 01 - 03:35 AM Hello everybody, You must have had a real splendid weekend. Sounds like big fun the whole time through. Hope I can make it too next time you meet. menzze |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Wolfgang Date: 09 May 01 - 05:05 AM This nice song and the stories jog my memory. Thanks for all the posts. Listening to the two CDs also helps a lot recalling the beautiful music. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Skipjack K8 Date: 09 May 01 - 06:47 AM I went down to the Sloop in Barton last night, to make the few Catters in there wildly jealous, but some arse reversed their rust bucket into Alfa at high velocity, and buggered off. Now I'm spending all day in Leeds trying to get it fixed up. At least the Sloopers were dead jealous of our junket. Played Going to the Well, Bill, which went down well. Thanks for that one. Thanks Susan for the addy's. Mrs S has circulated my creck telephone number. Skipjack ps Her with the half-mast trousers, she was kinda cute! |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Noreen Date: 09 May 01 - 07:58 AM Oh NO, Greg... the lovely Alfa! It survived my driving halfway across Europe at high speed on the wrong side of the road :0) and across the middle of roundabouts, AND Eric's driving three times round the Muenster one way system in the early hours of the morning, only to come to grief in your own backyard! Bummer! Hope you get it fixed up soon- I was looking forward to tearing up Chapel Haddlesey High Street in it.... More snippety memories of the trip: Playing the grand piano on the high seas (think I may have mentioned that before!) in a pleasant swell, which caused the piano, in its golden boots, to move independently of me- weird sensation. It's ok for those who are attached to their instruments! Eric experimenting with his favourite positions (for having his hair plaited) Sophie's delight (now there's a name for a tune, Sam!) at being given her own Mudcat badge, like the rest of us were wearing, and watching her trying to read her name in the logo Meeting up on the return ferry with a singing duo from Wigan who had been over in Paderborn for the weekend, entertaining the troops. We played together and they entertained us with Saw Doctors songs! *sigh* |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Letty Date: 09 May 01 - 08:39 AM Oh dear, I find myself looking up ferry fares to Hull to go to the Yorkshire meeting... Am I addicted? I'd like to go, only transport to Chapel Whotsit might be problematic. And my tent's heavy too. Letty (dreaming) |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: bill\sables Date: 09 May 01 - 09:24 AM Letty, You only have to get to Hull and you will be collected with the tent. Bill |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Noreen Date: 09 May 01 - 09:54 AM Do come, Letty! You can share my tent if you like, and we can continue that conversation... :0) |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: bill\sables Date: 09 May 01 - 11:46 AM Just a thought, I have spare tents you could use and also a fiddle. Skipjack has said he can collect you from Hull (That is if the bugger gets his motor mended). Just come. Bill |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Eric the Viking Date: 09 May 01 - 02:25 PM Yes, do it Letty, though you and Noreen had better move your tent away from the others, so they can't listen in and the mystery still remains. Skip-the car, find out who did it and we'll send Cobble round to sing to him for an hour-that should teach him a lesson, I will go with him, that's punishment enough!!. And Susan, I didn't recover quickly, I just couldn't face the paperwork for school, enjoy Italy. Cheers. Eric |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Lady McMoo Date: 09 May 01 - 05:23 PM What a talented bunch of mudcatters Eric I am lost for words!( for once) I could tell you were a talented teacher (from our Munster chats) but your song really made me laugh! You ought to do less school work and write more songs!! Any way I really enjoyed meeting you all and listening to your music. I found the whole idea of people meeting up in cyberspace and then meeting in meatspace (as you all say) really exciting..Yes the internet is changing lives.. I wont be able to make Yorkshire unfortunately but will be with you in spirit. Mooman the mudcatter formerly known as McMoo will be there.. Have fun.. Love to all, Patricia |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: catspaw49 Date: 09 May 01 - 06:45 PM I have been thoroughly enjoying these stories of what must count as one of the best posible gatherings ever. I've wanted to jump in and comment about each post at times, but it's been far better to read and enjoy. Ya' know I too was touched at the story of the cathedral stones and in a way, all of you are the "Cathedral Stones" yourselves........A wondeful meeting and exchange of old friends, many just met, bridging boundaries and history..... a meeting of musical minds. I'm sure Max never had any of this in mind but what a wonderful by-product. Great pix arrived yesterday from Mooman and one look will tell anyone the tale. My absolute best to all of you. Spaw |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Letty Date: 10 May 01 - 06:12 AM Where's these pictures then? Noreen, if I'm coming to Yorkshire, I sure would like to share a tent with you! I promise to wash my feet. I'll check the finances tomorrow and let you all know. Though I don't know about taking the Friday ferry, maybe the Thursday one and spend a day in York (there's a bus to York). Someone might be able to collect me in York on Saturday morning... Ah, now I'm getting excited!

Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Noreen Date: 14 May 01 - 07:12 AM Shame, Letty... I'll have to sing Siubhaíl a Rúin instead of you, then? You would have been very welcome. Noreen |

Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Wolfgang Date: 15 May 01 - 09:18 AM Rollo, thanks, completely new to me but it makes sense. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: MudGuard Date: 17 May 01 - 06:52 PM First, a big thank you to Wolfgang for organizing all this! Second, a big thank you to all who came for many nice talks, great tunes and great songs! Thanks, Bill, for the nice badge - it has a place of honour in a most prominent place in my living room! Myself had some bad experiences during the bike tour I started from Münster. Btw, sorry, Mr. and Lady McMoo, Brussels would have been a bit far off my planned track). In the youth hostel in Gent (Belgium) my money was stolen from my purse at night (coins, credit card and banking card remained there). A few days later, when I was just about to leave Calais, I talked to a Frenchmen while one Neo-Nazi was listening. He must have noticed from my bad French that I am not French, and he whistled for his friends who attacked me with baseball bats - luckily only one stroke hit me, and it hit me only lightly, just a little hematome on my left arm - I was able to flee on my bike into the safety of a group of police officers. Still, I did not like the experience and decided to break off the tour - I did not want to stay in a country where I am in the permanent danger of serious attacks... (there were some other factors that made me go home as well, e.g. my tooth started to hurt once again...) Now, back to the Münster Gathering, which was a much better experience! I loved meeting all of you MudCatters (and Petra and little Sophie as well!)
During the evening I had written a verse (btw, great one, Eric!) about our weird moments with the service and bill in the restaurant, later I added a verse or two. Here it goes (tune should be obvious):
In Münster's fair city
In Münster's fair city
In Münster's fair city
In Münster's fair city

Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Cobble Date: 17 May 01 - 07:39 PM Mudguard Im sorry to hear about your bad time on your cycling holiday. What were the French police doing while you were being attacked? What a pitty you did'nt sail from Holland to Hull and join us at the gathering, you would have been very welcome. you seem to have met, a few of the local idiots and mindless fool's on your trip. I'm sorry the holiday was spoilt, next year try to get over to see us over here, you will be most welcome. Cobble. |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: GUEST,Skipjack Date: 17 May 01 - 09:32 PM Andy, my friend, that is absolutely terrifying. There are hateful eejits everywhere, it's not limited by national boundary. Come over to your friends in Engeland, and let us restore your faith in humanity. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Patrish(inactive) Date: 18 May 01 - 03:43 AM Andy, I am so sorry to hear about your troubles on your holiday. Skipjack is right, come and see your friends here in England. Patrish |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Noreen Date: 18 May 01 - 05:35 AM Just posted another pic on the Yahoo page (see link above), this is one of Cobble's, of the travelling musicians sailing the Pride of Rotterdam : have a look! Note : the space for typing in names in the caption box is limited. This is the only reason for Eric the Viking being described as Eric TV, honestly, despite the sex-change rumours....) Andreas, so sorry to hear of your bad experiences. I can't imagine anyone considering attacking you, for many reasons! Don't let it put you off the rest of humanity, please. We'll raise a glass (or two) to you at the Yorkshire Gathering. Noreen |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: bill\sables Date: 18 May 01 - 09:46 AM Sorry to hear about your nasty experience Andreas. As someone said earlier...there are complete eejits and fools everywhere. So sorry it broke off your tour. It was great to meet you in Munster. What a great weekend that was Take care for now, mooman (ex-mcmoo - currently at Bill Sables computer!) |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Eric the Viking Date: 18 May 01 - 01:21 PM Mudguard, I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. There is a rally in York on 23rd of June. Over 3000 cyclists will be there for the weekend. You know not all of us are animals like those you met. The song is excellent and should go in the mudcat song book. have some happy cycling-Holland is good. England is good and there is much to see. take care Best wishes Eric |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Llanfair Date: 18 May 01 - 03:37 PM Andy!! what a horrible experience for you!!! I bet the guys weren't very tall.....there is something about us tall people, particularly the gentle ones, that brings out the worst in a few people of less than average stature. They start thinking that they have something to prove, and it's us that have to suffer. I hope you recover soon. It was so good to see you again, and I love your song. Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Eric the Viking Date: 18 May 01 - 04:28 PM Hey, hang on a minute Bron-I'm only a short arse and I'm not aggressive, never picked on anyone for their size, weight, or height, or any thing else for that matter, except when playing rugby and that's because they had the ball. Any more of this and I'll stand on a chair and punch you on the nose!! (Only jesting) Shame you never got to Yorkshire. ps was it ONLY 2 weeks ago we set off!!!!! |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Llanfair Date: 18 May 01 - 06:25 PM I did say that there are a FEW people like that. The vast majority are nice people, particularly you, Eric!! At this time, two weeks ago, we were making music by the grand piano!! Eeeee, it WERE grand!!!!!! Bron, wishing she was in Yorkshire. |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Susanne (skw) Date: 19 May 01 - 05:56 PM So am I, Bron! To all those able to go - should be nearly as good as the Muenster gathering! Andreas, I hope you've recovered from all your misfortunes. What an awful thing to happen! Sorry to hear you cut your holiday short, but your humour seems to be still intact, going by the lyrics. Great song, thank you! And before I forget - safe journey to Bill and his fellow suspects for the American tour! Should be great, going by the thread! And now I'll go and have a look at Noreen's latest photo. |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Wolfgang Date: 21 May 01 - 03:55 AM Andreas, thanks for the follow-up, but what a horrible follow-up it was. It takes some time to recover completely from such an experience and to regain trust in fellow humans. The nasty ones are only an extremely tiny minority,... Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Letty Date: 22 May 01 - 10:57 AM I'm so sorry this happened, Andreas! You did report it to the police didn't you? Don't let them scare you into staying home next time!
Love, to all of you, Letty |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Noreen Date: 06 Jun 01 - 09:54 AM A few more pics, from my camera this time, the last five pics (21 to 25) at the same location as linked to above: My Yahoo page I'd love to plan a couple of weeks holiday in Wolfgang's flat, just to listen to his wonderful music collection.... (make that a month...!) Noreen |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: radriano Date: 06 Jun 01 - 11:14 AM Sounds like a great time was had by all. Not many people know this little fact. I was born in Germany in the town of Bad Reichenhall. It's in southern Germany near the Austrian border. Richard |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Skipjack K8 Date: 06 Jun 01 - 05:00 PM Well, Rads, you got 327 days to get your ass to Brussels for the next one, care of TAFKAM, and sheet, is he an artist! |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: Susanne (skw) Date: 06 Jun 01 - 06:06 PM Greg, what's this? Do you mean the next Anglo-German Mudcat gathering is going to take place in Moo country? All right, just let me have that date in good time! Noreen, thanks for putting the photos up. I'm going to look at the new ones in a minute. Any idea what's happened to Brian's extensive collection? |
Subject: RE: News from the Germany Mudgathering! From: mooman Date: 06 Jun 01 - 07:00 PM OK, lets make in a ton up! (100) Yes I have conferred with she-who-must-be obeyed and we are happy to host the next Euro-Mudgathering here in Moo Land. Depending on numbers we may well have the space at Moo Towers but I'm thinking of conferring with the local "commune" who have recently gone all arty and musical to see whether they might let us use a slightly bigger performing space in the spirit of "European togetherness". Worth a try I think. We have plently of floor space a couple of spare beds and maybe room for a couple of tents if necessary. But there's plently of time for planning yet. So if it's OK with you all....Moo Land next year? Love to all mooman (TAFKAM - Skip, I presume you mean p*** artist!) |
