From: Verna

Greetings from Verna & Ray who with regret cannot be there. Remember when I used to return from Canada especially to co-incide with Bedworth? That was a long time ago!!

However we will be thinking of you all and hope that you read the invitation in the programme to our Song Weekend here in Ireland in March (first weekend. This is to celebrate our birthdays (60th & 65th - one each) and everyone who would like to come is invited. We will organise venue - guest spots - (well one anyway) and reasonably priced local accommodation. We also have a garden for tents caravans campers etc so keep us in mind.

Love to you all and best for 2005 Malc

Love Verna Ray (UptonFF)

I'll be there - and I'm a Bedworth virgin!

And I need some help. Malc's said we can run Herbaceous Border at Bedworth (Saturday afternoon and Sunday lunchtime for an hour or so) but so far I haven't managed to kidnap any musicians to play for us.

Any offers - or any suggestions of who I could approach?

Likely tunes are
a) Uncle Bernard's (preferably) or Click Go the Shears
b) Lord of the Dance
c) Anything suitable for 'border style single stepping' eg Donkey Riding; This Old Man; Rakes of Mallow; the dreaded Speed the Plough .... or a whole host of other tunes.
Any instruments welcome, but ideally it would include a melodeon and a drum.

Anyone who wants to come along and dance (whether or not they've morris danced before) will be very welcome but we can't do it without musicians. Contact me via this thread or PM me. Please!!!

Sue

Hi all, programme now on the website www.bedworth-festival.info Caravan space now sold out, space for a very few small campervans on Rugby Club, Indoor camping still available as are week-end tickets, thanks to our new bigger venues. Unfortunately the council have been unable to get the French Market traders to agree to come (better offers from elsewhere apparently) and just in case you are interested Jeremy Beadle will be putting in an appearance to turn on the Christmas lights, followed by the now annual firework display! Any enquiries email me malcg@bedworth-festival.info or via the web site. Ta! Malc.

See you there Chris, really looking forward to it. I know the French Market is a bummer, but the fry-up in the corner of the covered market is a belter, though not quite up to Bit on the Side Residential Experience standards!

Chocolate, chocolate that wasn't on the flyer we got!! May have to rethink this one. Anyone likely to be in the quiet indoor camping? Silly question I know but if we come we would have to bring the kids and whilst they would sleep through any all night revelry they might still want to be up early (although 8am is the norm). I'd happily have them in the scout hut but others might object.

We are having a late sing at the Rugby Club this year on Saturday evening - official finish midnight (but VERY flexible - 2am has been banded about!)- Rugby Club just request that you get there by 10:30 ish as they will not allow access too late so that we don't get any of the local yobs in!. The Rugby Club seems to be a bit of a gem find for us and will certainly figure much more in next years Fest. Are there any more takers out there for stewarding we could do with another half a dozen or so helpers - email stewards@bedworth-festival.info or contact Margaret & Martin direct at martin.bushnell@which.net if you are interested. Cheers Malc.

The sing sounds a great idea, but what about those of us who are booked to be elsewhere until after 10.30pm that evening. I dont suppose our session will finish before 11.00 or 11.30 so will we get in?

Hi Geoff,
People will be let in (wristbands will need to be shown), what the Rugby Club are concerned about (and rightly so I guess) is that if dozens of people move from the town centre to the Rugby Club at pub chucking out time, the yobs will latch on and tag along and this would cause a problem. This is a new venue for us this year and one that we need to nurture for the future so we need to tread carefully - it's taken us 27 years to get a sensible location for campervans and we wouldn't want to loose it at the first hurdle - I'm sure you understand. You may want to get a consensus from the audience in the singaround about moving to the Rugby Club at say just before 11 as they should all be ticket holders who will be able to access the Rugby Club, or it's still not too late to change the finish time for the singaround to 10.30 (that may be the best idea as people could take a leisurely walk to the Rugby Club and be ready in good time for the start of the sing), I'm open to suggestions (as long as they are decent!) As I'm writing this I'm coming to the conclusion that 10.30 end for the pub singaround is the right thing to do.
Malc.

Game on! Permission has been granted (thanks Malc)for a MudRaffle at the MudGather so we can raise some more funds for the MudCat. Anyone able to bring along a prize or two? There is a mystery prize from Banbury coming along and will hopefully be won by the right person this time!

Just in case you've forgotten, the MudGather will be held upstairs in the White Horse from 4.30 - 7pm on the Saturday. Bringing chocolate is traditional, but not obligatory....

HELP!!!!!
Only a week to go and I still haven't got any musicians lined up! (See my original post on 31st Oct 6.33pm)

Malc has us (that's 'Herbaceous Border') programmed in for Saturday 3.30 - 4.30pm at the Health Centre Piazza - so we don't actually clash with the Mudgather - and from 1.00-2.00pm on Sunday in Leicester Street.

Anyone can just turn up to dance (and everyone is welcome), but unless I know beforehand that I have a musician or two, then I shall be having some MudKittens to add to that MudCat. Please, someone, put me out of my misery!

Thank you both!

It would be great if Ted would play for us - and I'm really trying hard to get more. I've now got the list of the other sides which will be there, so will try e-mailing them direct. The trouble is that most sane people, when they have been playing for their own side all day, don't want to go and play for a crazy lot like us afterwards. They reckon it's time for tea and crumpets ..... or, maybe, more beer.

Any other suggestions from anyone for individuals I could approach - preferably before the festival - would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mary,
Coventry Mobility Centre is just off All Saints Sqaure in Congreve Walk, you may want to enquire with them (Tel 024 7631 3624) about a scooter/buggy. I understand the contact is Bill Graham (No I don't think it's THE Bill(y) Graham)
Hope this is some use.

Instead I've been snowed in, in the wilds of North Devon, with impassable roads and reports of jack-knifed lorries, huge jams, overturned cement mixers and a countryside littered with abandoned vehicles.

Hope you've all had a great time. ...Maybe next year?...
