Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 28 Jul 06 - 09:34 AM I only wish I could join you but in view of your county's recent penchant for attacking people with lightning I think it might be unwise for a person of my great stature to stand around attached to so much conducting wire. Mick |

Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 28 Jul 06 - 12:09 PM Hey it just took me three days to read all the garbage you lot dropped on here. you should have a little box for each kind of rubbish. There would have to be a big one for the verbal diahoereah (errrr that dont look right) I thought I was the MC tonight? Hey Hope there are some tomatoes left over, good squishy ones and we can use an accordion to make tomatoe juice to have at the BBQ. Any one gotta watch I can use? Dont want any of the other acts going over their twenty minutes do we? See you later. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 28 Jul 06 - 02:38 PM Perish the thought! |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Georgiansilver Date: 28 Jul 06 - 07:31 PM Great night again tonight with all acts excellent. Tims debut (with the rest of the Twanglers of course) was brilliant. Helian Keys, terrific! Andrew T..thanks for doing the Clifford T Ward song...you were great. Gwenda and Terry performed brilliantly both in their spot and on the PA and Mick...Well what can we say about Mick Pearce....Top notch and thanks for doing 'Thirteen Florins' Mick. Thoroughly enjoyed tonight. Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 28 Jul 06 - 08:03 PM I will second everything you said there Mike. Clifford T Ward - one of my real real favourites. Tim, no wonder everybody finished early if you only gave them 20 minutes, it should have been 25 minutes LOL :-) Anyway you did a very good job Mcing Thankyou. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 28 Jul 06 - 08:08 PM Oh incidentally, it was very nice to see Bill Whaley and his wife come along. That was a surprise. They came to see Mick Pearce perform, but in Chatting to Bill he said how much he enjoyed the other performances as well. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rockhen Date: 28 Jul 06 - 08:21 PM Enjoyed the night, although was preoccupied at first as couldn't decide if my accordion causing the problem with the sound....(cue accordion jokes, lol!) I consider it my duty to make sure there are not just guitar things playing all night, hee hee :-) Could have done with a bag of chips though, I always get hungry by the 2nd half, doh! I love the fact that you hear lots of acts and get to know who different people are at the club. I like the variety, too. Long may it continue! |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Georgiansilver Date: 29 Jul 06 - 03:33 AM Did you get any of the chocolate? |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 29 Jul 06 - 03:40 AM I thought you brought lots of food with you Rockhen? Or was it the desire for chips. That was wierd with your accordian. I don't think you have had that problem before have you? |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 29 Jul 06 - 03:58 AM Thanks for kind reception/comments re Twanglers last night. Was dissapointed wiht my own performnce as made a lot of mistakes luckily I had The two Twanglettes to drag me out of the mire. I thought the rest of the evening was superb, HK picked up the peices and Andrew ,who I had never heard before was superb, great set by him Of course T&G were brilliant and Mick pearce put it to bed in a professional manner. Well done the audience BTW The singing on our chourus bits was great and very welcome. Cheers you lot. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 29 Jul 06 - 04:35 AM Thanks to everyone for a great night - I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the whole evening. Bill and Shirley Whaley coming along to see me was a surprise and a delight for me. Thanks to Tim for MCing and Terry & Gwenda for doing the sound, and a big thanks to Les for inviting me along again. Mick |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 29 Jul 06 - 05:06 AM Tim, you did fine. Its not easy opening the evening and being the first time on stage at MRFC, as well as MCing. So give tourself a medal, you deserve it. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rockhen Date: 29 Jul 06 - 05:09 AM GS...no, sniff sniff...I never got any of the chocolate... I was gutted! :-( We had some potato-head-low-fat-tiny-packet-wouldn't-feed-a-flea crisps and a bottle of diet coke... what a feast! Villan, no, my accordion doesn't usually do that. I think it may have been a gremlin, elsewhere but it is always difficult to pinpoint that sort of thing. I wished I had unplugged earlier because I begin to play really cautiously and tried to stand really still in case moving about made it worse. Is the downside of having a PA, great when all is well but can be distracting when you are performing if there is a problem. I thought G & T did a good job with the sound in spite of my accordion hiccups. It is no mean feat sorting so many different acts out in one night, plus a lot of work. It was a nice evening but perhaps the heating could be turned off, now, Villan, it was very cosy...! |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 29 Jul 06 - 05:14 AM It was very hot last night. I will be glad when the temperature dips and things are a bit cooler. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 29 Jul 06 - 05:19 AM I was wondering about popping sounds as well do you think the weather conditions may have contributed to it? Maybe there was a thunder head at a distance over the land? MCp thanks for that kind comment re MC bit was bit weird to do for first time but with the classy performers and audience not as bad as could have been. I must try not to be so easily distracted when trying to play though. But what normal man could keep his mind on higher things when the lovely Gwenda is at his feet fiddling with his wttsit? Hey I got kissed by a WWW that mello cello chick is great and she came back for more. LOL |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 29 Jul 06 - 06:02 AM I think Helen's accordian had flatulance. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rockhen Date: 29 Jul 06 - 06:15 AM Don't be personal! lol |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Travelling Audience Date: 29 Jul 06 - 06:31 AM Tim & The Twanglers passed their audition with flying colours so the Choc. & Tomatoes were not needed. Good to hear Andrew from Doncaster again..brilliant set. You keep bringing the piano Helen....love to hear it. Cater Twins brilliant as usual. Good to hear Mick Pearce again too..great songs. Great night Les...thanks. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rockhen Date: 29 Jul 06 - 01:01 PM Thanks for that, I know it is not considered very folkie..an electric piano, eeeek!...and some people do tell me that they disapprove...but I appreciate the nice comments very much! I do try to play fairly sensitively and leave the rock-keyboard settings at home when I come to Faldingworth! Hmmm, if I play a few deliberate mistakes...can i have some chocolate, then? Lol! |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Georgiansilver Date: 29 Jul 06 - 04:23 PM Jane Kitchen used a keyboard (as piano) when coming second in the "Write a Lincolnshire Folk Song" competition last year so it just has to be a folk instrument Helen. By the way...is she any relation..Rockhen...Kitchen..two hens? Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rockhen Date: 29 Jul 06 - 07:48 PM No, she is not a relation, lol! She bought her piano, which is the same as mine, after hearing and seeing mine at Market Rasen Club, I think. She has a lovely voice. I always enjoyed hearing her but she doesn't seem to play much at MRFC now. Shame. Was nice when her and John B played together, too. I love the piano and wish there were more 'proper' ones that were fit to be played at places. It galls me at local acoustic nights in Grimsby, that I am not allowed to take my piano as it is eeeek ...electric...even though it can sound very similar to an acoustic piano. I'd love to wheel a baby grand into some of these nights and see the reaction of some of the people who tutted and said i shouldn't take it, :-) |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 29 Jul 06 - 08:12 PM You could play it in the tap mate is not up to anyone but Dave and Rose. Now at Staithes there was a piano in the main pub and it only got played once for a few mins all time was there. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Georgiansilver Date: 30 Jul 06 - 03:40 AM Helen. Jane as well as John has been suffering ill health for some time now and has had an operation but is now on the mend. I'm sure she will be back to the clubs when fully fit. Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 30 Jul 06 - 04:02 AM Helen, thanks for the vote of confidence in Jane and me! :-) GS is correct - we've both been going through a fairly horrible patch of ill-health. Jane's treatment is on-going and seems to be succeeding, and I'm in hospital this coming Thursday for surgery which will keep me house-bound for around six weeks. You're right, Jane's a very talented musician and singer, it's an honour and a pleasure to work with her and I'm missing it very much. We keep in close touch and we WILL be back together as soon as our current problems are sorted. And thanks to everyone who has wished both of us well, both on the 'Cat and otherwise - it's very much appreciated. S:0) |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Travelling Audience Date: 30 Jul 06 - 05:20 AM SJ...When we were talking to Andrew (de flashgit) and Carol on Friday, they were disapointed in not seeing you and they too send their best wishes. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 30 Jul 06 - 05:37 AM Us too I even announced you on friday but not loudly enough obviously! Also I needed me guitar tuning and I thought ah capo, guitar and Strollin! Doh! Hope you soon back to full strength and JK too. Best Wishes Tim & Jen. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 30 Jul 06 - 05:56 AM It goes without saying Strollin' that you are missed at MRFC. I am sure I can say that for non mudcatters of MRFRC, we will all be rooting for you and thinking best wishes for you. You just leave them nurses alone after your op, it won't help you get better :-) Get well quickly and I hope we shall see you performing back at MRFC with Lady Jane of course, pretty soon. I can think of some ways of not going to see Emmylou Harris, but this one takes the biscuit. :-) Look after yourself. Les (Inge also sends her best wishes and hopes you have a speedy recovery) |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 30 Jul 06 - 07:11 AM Thanks guys. Les, give Emmylou a big sloppy kiss from me! S:0) |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rockhen Date: 30 Jul 06 - 07:25 AM Twangy, I thought you knew...Dave was one of the people who said no to the ELECTRIC piano...his pub, his choice I guess. Sorry to hear about Jane's ill health, Strollin' best wishes to you and her, for a good and speedy return to good health. I tried the piano at Faldingworth and although it wasn't awful, it wasn't that perfectly in tune, unfortunately. I far prefer to play a 'real' piano but most in places like that, are not that brilliant because of the changes in temperature affecting them. Fine if I am playing for a singaround type of informal bit of fun but not quite right for piano ballads. |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Rasener Date: 30 Jul 06 - 08:01 AM Strollin' w3hat if I try and persuade her to come and give you a sloppy kiss in your hospital bed. ROTFLMAO The mind boggles at the thought :-) |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 30 Jul 06 - 08:20 AM I'll probably still be out of me tree on that laffing gas stuff they put you out with! LOL! |
Subject: RE: MarketRasenFolkClub Friday July 28th 06 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 30 Jul 06 - 09:15 AM 100! First time ever! Wooooooo-Hoo! S:0) |
