Subject: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: GUEST,Razor Date: 14 Jan 04 - 10:38 AM I'm confused - a friend of a colleague was complaining because a certain young lady had not shaved her armpits WHY ? |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Peace Date: 14 Jan 04 - 10:49 AM Why had she not shaved her armpits? Because she didn't want to! She ran out of blades? She had a bad case of crabs, and until that's cleared up she isn't going near her arms. OK, I give up. Why? |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jan 04 - 11:00 AM Is there another line on the page below which we can put this thread? Some kind of sub-BS category? Geez. Another stupid guest thread. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: GUEST,Geno Date: 14 Jan 04 - 03:41 PM Don't you people have anything better to do with your time than abuse guests? C'mon, there have been plenty of threads dedicated to guest-bashing already; what do you want, blood? comma added--Joe Clone |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: GUEST,Geno Date: 14 Jan 04 - 03:43 PM Sorry; should've had a comma after "c'mon". It's me nerves... |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Jan 04 - 04:44 PM That wasn't a case of a GUEST being abused as a GUEST. If a named member had started this thread, with the same post, I am sure that Stilly River Sage would have made the same comment. Must be bloody uncomfortable, that's all I can think. Shaving faces is bad enough, which is one reason I gave it up long ago, but doing your armpits doesn't bear thinking about... |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Sorcha Date: 14 Jan 04 - 04:45 PM Haven't shaved my pits for years...just lazy and it doesn't bother me..went about 5 years w/o shaving my legs.....didn't bother me but felt weird in the bath. Now, I shave legs about q month except in summer. Just lazy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: greg stephens Date: 14 Jan 04 - 06:48 PM Interesting that this is such a taboo subject that some people feel actively uncomfortable about discussing it. Which is quite odd, beard discussion aren't considered unmentionable. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Jan 04 - 06:56 PM But in both cases many people seem to share this strange concept that shaving hair, rather than just letting it grow, is somehow the more natural thing to do. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Liz the Squeak Date: 14 Jan 04 - 07:18 PM Stubble rash is bad enough under arms (or, so I'm told on, faces), but the worst was when I had a surgical procedure and they shaved the bits the sun don't see. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Peace Date: 14 Jan 04 - 07:39 PM It's been years since I shaved my armpits OR legs. Friggin' electric razor damn near electrocuted me one day in the bath, so I stopped. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Jan 04 - 07:45 PM Romans used to use pumice stone from volcanic lava rather than shaving daily, I believe. Must have felt a bit strange after Pompeii... |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jan 04 - 08:51 PM greg--not taboo, just inane. I would sarcastically suggest any number of other thread topics except that some visiting einstein might decide to make his Mudcat debut with a thread on why toilet paper sometimes sticks to his butt. (Hmmm. Maybe that one has already been done. Should I do a search on 'spaw's threads? Or LH's Blind Drunk in Blind River?) Kevin was right, the remark probably would have been made even if a mudcatter started the thread. But the anonymous guests are easy targets when silly stuff turns up. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: SINSULL Date: 14 Jan 04 - 09:04 PM Liz - you just reminded me of a very funny scene. Post surgery, I was encouraged to walk as much and as soon as possible. The incision was torture but the stubble nearly reduced me to tears. So I am hobbling bow legged down the corridor dragging an IV when a nurse runs over to me and says "You shouldn't be in this much pain! What's wrong?" I responded icily "Five O'clock shadow." |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Jan 04 - 05:33 AM Armpit hair like genital hair, arrives at puberty and is therefore pubic hair and a sign of sexual maturity. While I can understand a woman feeling that excessively hirsute arms or legs might look unfeminine, I would generally prefer a lady not to shave or depilate her armpits - Linda never does. The same goes for "the bits the sun don't see" although as Linda and I do enjoy naturism now and again, perhaps Liz's description isn't so accurate. As mentioned on another thread, I find mature ladies (esp Essex Girl) very sexy, and don't want them to look like pre-pubescent girls. I've definitely never felt any desire to remove any of my (admittedly sparse) body hair, and the only time that I have shaved my beard off in the last 30-odd years was for a stage role. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: GUEST,G String Date: 15 Jan 04 - 06:14 AM "Blue cliky thing" problem - but a google search found this interesting site www.geocities.com/SoHo/Coffeehouse/7977/ from a lady who's dived deep into the pits in the name of research |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: the lemonade lady Date: 15 Jan 04 - 06:21 AM I didn't shave for years. I did notice my customers looking when I was making the lemonade, but it never affected sales! I do shave now because I have noticed that the hair hangs on to odours. I suppose that's why they are there... to attract the opposite sex. Pheramones etc, so why do men prefer shaved pits? Don't you like us to smell all natural like? In some areas I know you do! Sal |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Sweetfia Date: 15 Jan 04 - 06:27 AM Eeeeewww! This could be a generation thing but as if ya don't shave ya armpits! I would find it really embarrassing if i wore a strap top n i hadn't. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Madame P At Work Date: 15 Jan 04 - 07:21 AM My brother once shaved his eyebrows off after watching Pink Floyd's The Wall, just to see what it would look like. He can't have looked that different 'cos it took my Mum a week and a severe telling off, for her to notice what he'd done. It was quite amusing to watch. My mother grabed the front of my brother's shirt to drag him down to her level (to emphasise a point, as it were) and just stopped in her tracks. Then she exploded with "Why ent you got no eyebrows?" at the top of her lungs. She proceeded to berate him for his lack of cranial caterpillars and then she demanded that I tell him why he shouldn't shave them off! It all lost steam when my brother started laughing and my Mum kept losing track of where she was in her diatribe. Thanks to my inheriting my hair colouration from my Dad, I don't have to shave anyway. The few hairs I have are really pale and they just don't show up against my skin. My Mother was a bit put out about that too, come to think of it, as she has black body hair. I did shave my legs once, just to see what it was like. I decide that the itching alone was enough to drive me insane, so I didn't do that ever again and thanked the powers that be for my good fortune.... TTFN Lady P. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Homeless Date: 15 Jan 04 - 10:02 AM Ms Lemon, the answer to your question, "so why do men prefer shaved pits?" is "social conditioning" or possibly "peer pressure." There is no rational reason. Many men who are able to think for themselves don't have a preference one way or another. Read Sweetfia's post above for an example of social conditioning. What reason is there to be embarrassed that your pits aren't shaved? |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: GUEST,Razor Date: 15 Jan 04 - 10:15 AM Thanks for all the comments I'm being educated by the minute and becoming less confused. A quick summary - coalitus, female body hair is considered erotic, plat your pit, must be bloody uncomfortable, haven't shaved my pits for years, shaved the bits the sun don't see, half an orange as a contraceptive device, pumice stone from volcanic lava rather than shaving daily, stop the turkey shit sticking, incision was torture but the stubble nearly reduced me to tears, Hobbit toes, specialised website for non-pit shavers, hairy palms, Armpit hair like genital hair, Pheramones, Pink Floyd's The Wall etc etc - keep it coming folks facinating stuff...i've even decided to give it a try. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Jan 04 - 10:26 AM Give what a try - shaving or letting them stay hairy ? I don't think you've actually declared your gender. A remark on another thread, prompts me to point out that Linda (Essex Girl) is not naturally very hirsute anyway. Her belief is that shaving only makes the hair coarser and that therefore it's self-defeating. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Sttaw Legend Date: 15 Jan 04 - 10:53 AM Dave, to answer your questions - I am of the female gender, and will be trying to let my pits grow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hairy or shaved armpits From: Peg Date: 15 Jan 04 - 11:01 AM I shave my legs, not my underarms... if you bathe each day and use a good natural deodorant, the odor is not a problem...hot days are a different story, but that's true for people that use anti-perspirants too. the human body needs to sweat; plugging up the pores with alumnium is not a good idea. Besides, it's not sweat that stinks; it's bacteria. a deodorant with tea tree, lavender or bergamot works great. (I use Jason's tea tree, or aromarant from Lush) |
