Subject: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST,Den Date: 28 May 04 - 12:52 PM No this is not a thread about a Mudcat gathering, its about the football (soccer to N. Americans) tournament taking place in Portugal in a couple of weeks. So before anyone starts, if you don't like the game or the topic, then please don't participate. We had a little fun with the last world cup thread so I'd like to see a few predictions even weird ones. I predicted that Oliver Neuville would hit the post in the final and he duly complied. So what do you think? Who will win? Will it be host's Portugal, will it be Spain or current champs France, will they take it again. Will it be England or will this be Holland's turn for a major honour. The groups are as follows: Group A Greece Portugal Russia Spain Group B Croatia England France Switzerland Group C Bulgaria Denmark Italy Sweden Group D Czech Republic Germany Netherlands Latvia So there you are. What do you think? |

Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST,Den Date: 28 May 04 - 07:41 PM On paper Wolfgang I'd have to agree with you but they do have a habit of chocking in the big games. BPL about time England did something but will they miss Ferdinand? I have to agree with France but you know I kind of fancy Portugal. They are at home and they have a young quality team and of course you can never count the Italians out. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 28 May 04 - 07:53 PM Germany is not on form, I gather. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST Date: 28 May 04 - 09:35 PM My prediction is they'll have those new moving colour video adverts facing the camera and as a player moves left the advert moves right and I can't concentrate and I'll switch off because money will have taken over even the field of play. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: George Papavgeris Date: 29 May 04 - 01:37 PM Heart says Greece, brain has a good laugh. I agree with Wolfgang - Netherlands, I think. And as an underdog, Croatia. They have shown ability to surprise and shame, and they are hungry. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 29 May 04 - 01:50 PM Brain and heart say please let it be over soon! |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 May 04 - 03:04 PM That link I gave to the UEFA website went pear shaped. This one should work better. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Gareth Date: 29 May 04 - 07:11 PM Hmmm ! Round Ball Game I's not watching ! Just remember the Old Welsh saying " I support 2 teams, Wales, and whoever is playing England" Gareth |

Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 May 04 - 07:25 PM Well, once you have run up against the more orc-like English football fans, there is a strong temptation to hope for whatever result will, in the words of God Save the Queen "Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks". In Sainsburys today I saw they have produced hot cross buns with a St Georg's Cross. (But they were selling them off cheap because they hadn't sold at full ptice...) |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 30 May 04 - 07:37 AM As the great German trainer S. Herberger said: the ball is round, and a game lasts 90 minutes. That means, these are the only things for sure you may predict. The luckiest team will win. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: ard mhacha Date: 30 May 04 - 09:31 AM I predict that England will be thrown out of the tournament because of unruly drunken louts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Ranks Date: 30 May 04 - 01:31 PM Germany will win. But I always say that |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Wolfgang Date: 30 May 04 - 03:37 PM The only thing that could be said for the German team is that they have not been on form at the last world cup too. Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST,Den Date: 11 Jun 04 - 11:50 AM Portugal v Greece and Spain V Russia, tomorrow. I predict 2-1 to Portugal. I think that Spain and Russia will draw. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST, sick-of-cynics Date: 11 Jun 04 - 01:05 PM Well, once you have run up against the more orc-like English football fans, there is a strong temptation to hope for whatever result will, in the words of God Save the Queen "Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks". In Sainsburys today I saw they have produced hot cross buns with a St Georg's Cross. (But they were selling them off cheap because they hadn't sold at full ptice...) You're the Tim-wannabee, aren't you? It must suck to be you, permanently on the lookout to badmouth your parasitee. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Wolfgang Date: 12 Jun 04 - 02:44 PM Den, the 2-1 was very close for the first game, only the wrong winner. Never mind, I alos would have picked the wrong winner and that'll be not the last time I'll be wrong. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 13 Jun 04 - 04:33 AM Guest Den. Please tell me you've got France to win 3-0 today. I reckon you've got my luck when it comes to score predictions! C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: fat B****rd Date: 13 Jun 04 - 07:10 AM Oh F*ck it, I'm going to drink snakebites and yell at the telly. Whilst watching the Football that is. Normally it's BBC4 concerts etc. and real ale , honest. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Nigel Parsons Date: 13 Jun 04 - 10:23 AM For those not well-versed in 'yob culture' the 'snakebite' to which fat B****rd refers is a half & half mixture of lager & cider. A waste of good cider in my view! Nigel |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Den Date: 13 Jun 04 - 05:21 PM Well at least I'm willing to put my head on the block. I don't think anyone would have predicted the England v France result. I think though on the balance of play France deserved it. Ok now we have Denmark v Italy and Sweden against Bulgaria. I say 1 v 0 to Italy and 2 v 1 Sweden. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Rasener Date: 13 Jun 04 - 05:35 PM My wife who is Dutch reckons the Kruauts are going to get a big big bo*******G van Nistelroy will giv ethem hell. :-) As England are crap, I will be supporting Holland as well. :-) Well its no good relying on England is it!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 13 Jun 04 - 05:48 PM "Ok now we have Denmark v Italy and Sweden against Bulgaria. I say 1 v 0 to Italy and 2 v 1 Sweden." Well Ladbrokes took my money tonight (2-1 to England, Gerrard to score) but I'll take Sweden to beat Bulgaria 2-0 and a draw between Italy and Denmark. C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Wolfgang Date: 13 Jun 04 - 05:52 PM My score predictions are nearly never correct (Netherlands - Germany 2-0 I'd say, nevertheless). The only time I did win a prediction lottery was some Euros ago when I predicted Ireland - England 1 - 0. I got big praise (and a little money) from all the others and I only had wanted to make a foolish prediction but had failed. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Rasener Date: 13 Jun 04 - 05:58 PM I wish I had bet on Greece beating Portugal. A £1000 bet would have been nice :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 14 Jun 04 - 05:52 PM ........Oh well!.....only three goals out on my prediction! Italy don't look quite the force they were. One less to worry about! C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST,Den Date: 15 Jun 04 - 09:21 AM Boy was I off base. What a yawner from Italy and Denmark and Sweden...holy smoke. Who saw that coming...obviously not the Bulgarian keeper. I've got to take the Czech Republic over Latvia though. I say 3-0 to the Czech's and Holland 2 v 1 over Germany. I've got a streak going here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Den Date: 15 Jun 04 - 09:57 AM Well done C-flat at least you got one right. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 15 Jun 04 - 12:35 PM I've taken 3-1 in favour of Holland and opted for a Latvian victory over the Czechs of 2-1 (simply because I got 30/1 odds, so it's worth a quid bet!) C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Rasener Date: 15 Jun 04 - 01:24 PM I hope Holland win, otherwise it will be a tough night with my missus, who is Dutch. There will be no love lost between the Krauts and the Cloggies. They do love to hate each other. Bit like England and Scotland :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Den Date: 15 Jun 04 - 02:09 PM Well I picked the winner but blew the score. The Czechs won 2v1. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 15 Jun 04 - 02:22 PM A pound lighter! In only 90 minutes! That's 1 each, Den. For about 10 minutes of that 90 I was hopeful. Ideally it will be 3-1 to Holland with either Van Nisterlroy(50/1) or Kluivert(75/1) to score first. Kluivert has been a recent target for my team (Middlesbrough) so I hope he does it. C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Rasener Date: 15 Jun 04 - 03:09 PM Ive heard he is coming to the Villa, with Angel going to Liverpool. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 15 Jun 04 - 04:10 PM We'll have to see who's left after Abramovich has finished waving his cheque book and fight over the scraps! C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Rasener Date: 15 Jun 04 - 05:09 PM Ive heard he is coming to the Villa, with Angel going to Liverpool. Just trying to wind you up C-Flat :-) Villa wont sign Kluivert, but Angel might be tempted away. Normally middlesborough are good at that !!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: ard mhacha Date: 16 Jun 04 - 08:43 AM Villian, Just heard worrying news for all English fans, the second night of rioting between English fans and the Portuguese police has been reported on BBC News, and England are on a final warning. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 16 Jun 04 - 09:13 AM They bring shame on the true football supporters. I went to Cardiff for the Carling Cup final this year and the atmosphere was superb. Both sets of fans were there to enjoy the day, I didn't see or hear of any trouble between the fans and, later that evening, was amazed at how many of the Bolton supporters came over to shake hands and share a drink as we talked over the days events. They were as dissapointed as we were delighted, but there was no hint of animosity on their part. Those people are real football fans and I felt proud to be a part of that. These hooligans just make me embarrassed. C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Wolfgang Date: 16 Jun 04 - 11:14 AM They did draw, Netherlands and Germany. Therefore, today, in the Netherlands they criticize team and coach, but in Germany they praise team and coach. Funny world. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Den Date: 16 Jun 04 - 01:22 PM What a goal from Van Nistelrooy though. Anyone for Portugal beating Russia? Dare I say 2-0, Portugal. In the other game which is in the 56th minute Spain are leading through a goal from Morientes. So far 5 yellow cards have been dished out. I say Spain will win ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Den Date: 16 Jun 04 - 08:47 PM Well I nailed that one, the win and the score. Portugal 2v0 over Russia but my other prediction...well we'll say no more about that. England v Switzerland tomorrow and Croatia against France. What will happen? |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 17 Jun 04 - 11:15 AM I've obviously taken England to win (well I couldn't bet against us!) but there were some good odds on Sol Campbell to score first. Given that he comes up for all the corners I thought it worth a small wager. I've got 2-1 to England with Campbell to score first at 150/1 4-0 to England with Campbell again, at 375/1 3-0 to England with Gerrard to score first, at 75/1 4-0 to England with Rooney to score first, at 80/1 I don't really care, as long as we win! C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST,noddy Date: 17 Jun 04 - 11:26 AM 2-1 and Campbell scoring first but in which net???? |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Den Date: 17 Jun 04 - 11:27 AM I dunno C-flat, it should be England but I'm going to say 1-1. And I'll say 2-0 to les Blues, with Henry scoring and Croatia hitting the crossbar (what the heck). |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: GUEST Date: 17 Jun 04 - 11:32 AM |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: C-flat Date: 17 Jun 04 - 12:51 PM Half time and Dens' 1-1 looking a better bet than my 4-0!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Euro 2004 From: Rasener Date: 17 Jun 04 - 01:44 PM 4-0 to England with Rooney to score first, at 80/1 Blimey thats good odds its 3 - 0 and Rooney scored first. Has anybody taken the 4-0 bet? |
