Subject: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Cath Date: 13 Oct 08 - 05:32 PM Just heard today that Peter has booked Eliza Carthy and band with Mark Radcliffe for the Picturedrome on the Friday night (May 8th). Cath |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,glueman Date: 13 Oct 08 - 06:03 PM Wasn't the Picturedrome supposed to be hosting a folk club this autumn? |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Cath Date: 14 Oct 08 - 04:04 AM If I recollect the story it was available but only if someone came forward to organise and run it. To the best of my knowledge that hasn't happened. Cath |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,Ian Hendrie Date: 14 Oct 08 - 08:20 AM Do you still have to keep on the move in the Picturedrome to avoid sticking to the floor? |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Cath Date: 14 Oct 08 - 12:23 PM I haven't been for a while but I suspect so!! All the old plush cinema seats are gone though so there's nowhere to put your drink when you watch the pictures. I think most music gigs are standing and chairs are put out for the films. Cath |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th, 2009 From: Cath Date: 11 Feb 09 - 05:20 AM The list of artists for this year's festival is now up and very impressive (if I say so myself) thanks to collaborations with Peter at the Picturedrome and Ged at the Open Mic who have added their gigs to our already super lineup. Take a look at the web site www.holmfirthfestivaloffolk.co.uk and see for yourself. Please note that tickets for Picturedrome and CragRats gigs are necessary and available from the contacts listed. Any aspiring artists please note that we have more than enough for all the venues that we have and I don't keep applications from one year to another as there are so many that they would totally gum up my computer! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 11 Feb 09 - 08:33 AM Looks excellent - good luck! |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,Joe Date: 11 Feb 09 - 02:24 PM Great - look forward to seeing you Cath I see we have a few artists in common but all well worth seeing at least twice! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Tyke Date: 11 Feb 09 - 03:42 PM Hi Cath here a Blue Click do da for you http://www.holmfirthfestivaloffolk.co.uk/ |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th, 2009 From: GUEST,Cath Date: 13 Feb 09 - 05:41 AM The list and the festival gets longer! Peter has just confirmed that he's booked the Peatbog Faeries for the Picturedrome on Thursday May 7th so it's looking like an even bigger weekend than before. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Dave Hanson Date: 13 Feb 09 - 07:59 AM What does Mark Radcliffe do ? Dave H |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: r.padgett Date: 13 Feb 09 - 09:14 AM Mark Radcliffe is a BBC DJ and certainly has introduced folk acts on BBC TV progs such as Cambridge ff highlights What style of folk event did Peter envisage happening at Holmfirth Picturedrome in the course of normal time and what "venue" did he have in mind? Ray |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Cath Date: 13 Feb 09 - 12:16 PM I'm not sure what you mean Ray! Peter uses the Picturedrome for gigs on a regular basis and over the weekend of the festival he will have Mark Radcliffe and the Family Mahone with the Eliza Carthy Band on Friday and Ruth Notman, Jeana Leslie and Siobhan Miller, Silver Fall, Bellowhead and Saor Patrol in concert on Saturday. He has just added a concert with Peatbog Faeries on the Thursday before the festival officially starts. Tickets for these are all booked and paid for separately to the 'official' festival gigs but even if people buy for all three gigs it will still cost less than most other festivals when you consider that pretty much everything else is free. Hope that helps. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: r.padgett Date: 14 Feb 09 - 11:35 AM Good for him Cath!! I was alluding to the statement that after last year some one was needed to run a folk club! Folk Clubs come in all styles and varieties I would add and are somewhat different to full scale paying public gigs! So where and what I was after ~ if the Picturedrome is the answer? isn't it a bit big? Ray |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Cath Date: 15 Feb 09 - 07:50 AM Ah now I know what you mean! There is an upstairs bar with full PA available and I think that is the space Peter was thinking about. He isn't going to run a club but has offered the space for anyone who would like to take it up. Personally I don't think it is going to happen in the near future as there is already a thriving 'Open Mic' session at Number 11 which fulfils some of the functions of a folk club - not all I admit but you get a wide variety from unaccompanied traditional to pretty loud electric originals. Cath |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: r.padgett Date: 16 Feb 09 - 04:30 AM Many thanks Cath What night is the open night please? No 11 is in the centre of Holmfirth isn't it? Ray |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST Date: 16 Feb 09 - 06:44 AM It's every other Thursday - this week is the one - and it's on Upperbridge, just past Ashley Jacksons in the Holmbridge direction. Cath |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,Rob the Roadie Date: 16 Feb 09 - 08:41 AM Taggart and Wright will be making an appearance or two at Holmfirth Festival 2009 whether they are invited or not! Although they have not been performing for two ot three years they are still "together" if you can call it that. Anne lives in Chester and Angie has moved to Blairgowrie in Perthshire. They decided that they would get back together for a festival this year and Holmfirth was their choice! They guested there a few years back and really enjoyed themselves. One of the Family Mahone plays on both of Angie's solo CDs so they hope to meet up with them for some fun. So watch out they are about!!!!! You have been warned. Taggart and Wright Web site is www.sky-web.net/taggartandwright/ |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,glueman Date: 16 Feb 09 - 06:21 PM Didn't know about No 11's open mic sessions and I live 5 minutes walk away. It's a shame Peter's offer of a club upstairs at the 'Drome never took off. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Cath Date: 17 Feb 09 - 07:26 AM Well, Glueman you obviously don't read the new free newspaper - there was an advert in the latest edition last week. Let me know who and where you are and I'll make sure you get to know all about it. With reference to Rob the Roadie - I'd be interested to know where Taggart and Wright will be playing - as the person who is putting the programme together I know nothing of it!! Cath |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,Rob The Roadie Date: 17 Feb 09 - 07:56 AM They will be lending their excellent vocal support at as many sessions and singarounds as they can. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,glueman Date: 17 Feb 09 - 09:44 AM Cath - I rarely get past the Keep Tesco Out pages in the local free paper - I rather fancy a supermarket with a grass roof. Anyway I shall endeavour to get my backside down to see what's happening. |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: GUEST,Rob the Roadie Date: 24 Feb 09 - 08:53 AM Angie Wright is also appearing as a soloist at : The Lymm Festival 27th-28th June, The Lomond Festival 24-26 July The Isle of Colonsay Festival 17th-20th Sept But she was invited to those. Perhaps its because Anne is not with her that they let her in!!!! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk May 8 - 10th From: Cath Date: 24 Feb 09 - 09:50 AM The web site is back up - I think Tyke did one of those blue clicky things for it so why not have a look? Even if I say so myself it's a pretty impressive line up thanks to Peter at the Picturedrome and Ged at the Open Mic. The Peatbog Faeries are still to go on the site - they are at the Picturedrome on Thursday May 7th to set things off for the weekend. Cath |

All being well he will be the guest in Les Caveaux on Friday night and he'll be doing something on Saturday as well. All welcome as Tyke says. There's a change on Friday at the Picturedrome as Mark Radcliffe can no longer make it - I'm told The Men They Couldn't Hang are substitute! Cath |
