Just had a phone call to say the British engineer killed in the Syberian mining explosion was Mouldy's husband Ian. She asked me to let other Mudcats know.

I really enjoyed the day I spent with Ian, driving on the back roads of the North Yorkshire Moor. He was a fascinating storyteller and a very gracious man. His whole life sounded like a wonderful adventure.

My condolences to you and your family, Andrea. I won't forget the hospitality that you showed to me.

I joined Mudcat 2 days after meeting Mouldy and Ian for the first time at the Ducks' BBQ at Whitby festival in 2001, IIRC. This is really awful news, and I'm just so sorry for Andrea and family.

I come from a Yorkshire mining community and any mining tragedies sent shivers down my spine. It's even worse when you know someone, even a tenuous link like this.
