Also a cafe musician well known in Sydney during the 1970s, Brian Saltmarsh, died in his home state of Tasmania a few years ago. Sorry I haven't kept DOB and death notices for these people.

Acoustic muso Alan Russack who was well-known in both Sydney and Sweden, where he lived for many years, is also gone. He had a great love for South American music, especially Jobim.

Sean Keane has been added to the thread today. A wonderful fiddler who gave pleasure to us all. He will be sorely missed, but we still have his recordings and there are some lovely clips on YouTube and obituaries on the Internet.

I see that, Danny Doyle, a popular singer from Ireland who had hits with songs like The Rare Ould Times and Whiskey on a Sunday, hasn't yet got an obit. at Mudcat. I haven't seen the news mentioned on Mudcat yet, so: Bill Meek, the writer of Time Ashore and co-writer with John Conolly of Grimsby Lads, The Trawling Trade and many more, died in June 2023. Funeral notice and a notice on a Grimsby blog.

I have added Bill Meek to the Roll today. He was a remarkable character who had a wealth of knowledge about folklore and also shared his love of folk music with Grimsby Folk Club and his friend John Conolly with whom he co-wrote many songs. He will be missed. RIP

Two people have been added today; Heather Brady and Barry Laing. Both from opposite ends of the country and both excelled in what they did, Heather as a singer with "Swan Arcade" and Barry as a fiddler with "Skinner's Rats" and "The Crayfolk". They will both be sadly missed. RIP

I added Bob (Deckman) Nelson to the roll today. He had a great connection with folk music, co-founding the Pacific Northwest Folklore Society. It's worth reading through the thread and getting a picture of the man. As Pushkara Sally Ashford says in her post; "He was as much a shepherd of those of us in the folk music community as he was a performer and archivist".

John Foreman, the Broadsheet King, has passed away. He was one of a kind and he was a regular guest at my folk club where he was deservedly popular. He had a unique way of delivering his songs and material and also produced many books and broadside ballad sheets. He was very generous with his printing and gave me many of his products, '...as I'm having a bit of a clear out!"
