Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 22 Dec 11 - 06:42 PM Ever notice how, when it rains, it's mainly the poor who get wet? Here's my take on the Randy Newman song Louisiana 1927 By the way, I'm on vacation this week, so finally having the opportunity to finish some of these projects. |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 06 Jan 12 - 01:32 PM I started doing these videos back in March of 2011 and it's been a lot of fun. I certainly appreciate all of the support and kind comments from the Mudcat family on these efforts. One of the side benefits is the number of musician friends I have been able to coerce into participating, and have become friends with as a result. The views of the 29 videos on my channel are now approaching 12,000 according to the Youtube stats. About 70 percent of the views are from people 55-63 years old, and 90 percent from men. So come on ladies! :>) The most interesting phenomena is the way this video has taken off. Since I uploaded it on Nov 26, it has generated over 1,000 views. 96 percent are in the US. Over 50 percent of the views are coming from "mobile devices". I am puzzled by the popularity of this video. The harp work is pretty good I think, the guitar is ok, and the vocal was maybe my 5th or 6th attempt and I'm still not liking it. Maybe the fact that there is a reality show on tv in the US with a similar name accounts for it? Maybe there's something about illegal activity in general that has spurred it. Whatever the reason, its currently getting over 100 views a day, which is more than all of the others by a good margin. And 11 percent of those are women, which also beats my average :>) |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: gnu Date: 06 Jan 12 - 02:23 PM Quite a bit different from the version by The Clancy's I heard as a lad but still good. |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 06 Jan 12 - 03:38 PM Well thanks gnu, that's one more view in Canada. Yeah, pretty melancholy take on the song. You could do a jig to some of the versions I have heard. |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 06 Jan 12 - 03:53 PM I just read Olddude's thread about the 8000 downloads of his song Lightnin' Road and now I get it. Who would have thought the tv show "Moonshiners" would be affecting Mudcatters and their music? |

Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 06 Feb 12 - 03:15 AM I sing in choruses, tho I recently sang in public for the first time! Tho instead of the usual losing of tune after a verse or so, this time I lost the 3rd verse & gazed up into the famous word-stealing Black Cloud, but couldn't see them. Fortunately others found them after a small silence & we finished. sandra |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: GUEST,999 Date: 06 Feb 12 - 08:47 AM Just listened to Liberty Hall. Well done, Ernie. |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: olddude Date: 06 Feb 12 - 09:36 AM Awesome job !!! I love bluegrass and wow did you do a great job on this one love it Dan |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 06 Feb 12 - 12:23 PM LOL. Sandra. we have all been there. I am notorious with the other members of my blues band for making up lyrics on the spur of the moment when I've forgotten the real ones. Some I like, others are complete throwaways with meaningless rhymes. Nobody in the audience seems to know or care, though. |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 16 Feb 12 - 12:30 AM This song had its beginnings here on Mudcat, on the Poetry corner thread actually. As a kid I loved Halloween, as most kids do, I think. As I grew older, I began to see the very elemental nature of this holiday, its strange appeal that transcends the notions of costume-wearing and trick-or-treating. The Celts knew it as Beltane, one of the four corners of the turning year. They believed that the life we know exists in parallel to other worlds, that there were doors between this world and others, the living and dead, the ordinary and the magical, that opened at these times of year. This song is about the Beltane Time, about Halloween, and the strange excited intuition that all of us have about that time of year. Magic |

Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 07 Mar 12 - 08:21 PM This song was originally written for the Mudcat Peace in Ireland Song challenge, and I finally put a tune to it, and just in time for St Patrick's! Between the time this was written and now, Northern Ireland has done the unbelieveable and made peace between its divided people, so this song that was written in hope, has become one of celebration. I hope the people of Ireland continue to show the World that Peace is possible. The Provo's Song of Peace |
Subject: RE: Lonesome EJ New Youtube Videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 19 Mar 12 - 02:05 PM Another re-mix of this Gram Parsons song. Found the hand drum distracting so i deleted it, added a 12 string accent track. A Song for you |
