Subject: RE: BS: BoSox take it all!!! From: Bob Hitchcock Date: 28 Oct 04 - 07:45 PM Ouch, I didn't mean to get anyone upset, just a little joke you know and after all it's only a game! Just so you know, I became a Yankee fan after arriving in New York from UK back in 1975. I worked with someone who was a avid fan and he took it upon himself to teach me about Baseball as we didn't play it back home. So, by default I became a Yankee fan too after a season of making On Site client visits to the South Bronx and drinking that lousy beer they used to sell there (Reingold or Shaefer I can't recall now). So anyway, no offense meant to any non Yankee fans out there. Peace.........Bob. |
Subject: RE: BS: BoSox take it all!!! From: PoppaGator Date: 28 Oct 04 - 08:19 PM I've never been a Red Sox fan before, but I'm glad to see them (and, more to the point, their New England fans) finally win The Big One. I figure, if the BoSox can win the World Series, I can certainly win the Powerball lottery! During last night's interminable post-game discussions, I learned something very interesting about the so-called "Curse of the Bambino": When Boston owner Harry Frazee sold Babe Ruth's contract to the then-lowly New York Highlanders, he *also* sold them four or five other of his team's best players. Then, a year later, the Red Sox general manager moved to New York and remained in charge there for the next decade, assembling and maintaining the first "dynasty" in American professional sports, the renamed NY Yankees. So, the Babe was not the only individual to abandon Boston for New York -- several of his teammates *plus his boss* made the same move. In fact, the "Highlanders" may have become the "Yankess" because so many of them were transplanted New Englanders! |
