Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Apr 12 - 03:32 PM Wow, pretty cool Styx video! I love those 70's "hair" bands. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 16 Apr 12 - 04:03 PM There is something off-putting when the band's hair is prettier than that of the women in the video. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: gnu Date: 16 Apr 12 - 04:17 PM Some say we all have latent homosexual tendencies, JtS. Not me, of course. Not that there's anything wrong with that. hTen again, perhaps it's simple a "hair fetish". I don have a hair fetish. The Union of Baldies disallows it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 17 Apr 12 - 04:15 AM Vermont Senate Says Overturn Citizens United The Vermont Senate passed a resolution today seeking to undo the damage caused by the U.S. Supreme Court's disastrous Citizens United decision which unleashed waves of corporate cash into our democracy. Sixty-four Vermont towns successfully approved resolutions during their March town meetings calling on Congress to initiate a constitutional amendment to undo the damage caused by the Citizens United ruling. The resolution approved by the Vermont Senate asks Congress to consider the request of those town votes and propose a constitutional amendment to clarify that "money is not speech and corporations are not persons under the U.S. Constitution." "The Vermont Senate has now added its strong voice to a grassroots movement that is growing all across the United States," said Bernie, who has introduced the Saving American Democracy Amendment. |

Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Apr 12 - 09:38 AM I've experienced that too. I wonder if it's catching? |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 17 Apr 12 - 09:54 AM I need to back up here, and ask about the music linked to above by Jack the Sailor. The link says "Too much time," if anybody wants to listen. 1. It says "Rihanna" in big letters. Which pretty blonde guy is Rihanna? 2. The bass line is exactly that of "The Theme from Peter Gunn," which hit the charts when I was in junior high. Do they have to pay royalties for that, or being a world-famous rock band, do they just steal it? 3. How many people here recognize that bass line? |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 11:37 AM 1. It does not say "Rihanna" on my pc. 2. The keyboard guy is playing something similar to the peter Gun Bass riff, but bouncier. The bass player is playing much slower. The "Bass riff" on the Henry Mancini recording of the Peter Gunn theme is played on the lower register of a bass guitar and I can't hear purely bass instrument in the recording. Bass Pro Shops is a "Big Box" chain of out door recreational equipment that sells everything from gas Barbeques to Bass boats. If you are looking for tackle you can have a reel good time there. 3. I recognize that it is similar, but not identical. The Stix Riff is meant to sound clock-like the Gunn riff is heavier and "pushier." |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 11:37 AM Peter Gunn theme |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 11:41 AM This ain't no party. This ain't no disco. This ain't no fooling around. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 11:46 AM I like The Talking Heads better because their curly headed keyboard player does not have a cheesy mustache and because their person with the pretty blond hair is a woman. I also like the wittier lyrics and a non-pornographic dancer/background singers. |

Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 17 Apr 12 - 12:26 PM Talking Heads is a band? I thought that referred to TV talk show hosts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 12:55 PM hmmmm The Animals is a band, The Police, The Clash, etc.. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is not a band and never was. Think about it (If you have too much time on your hands.) That is the way of bands. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Becca72 Date: 17 Apr 12 - 12:57 PM Been a major Styx fan since about 1977 (when I was 5 years old). To date, I have seen them live 17 times, with 2 more concerts planned for this summer. Too much time on MY hands? No! |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 01:27 PM Do they still have that hair? |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 17 Apr 12 - 01:29 PM Yeah, tons of it..bushing out their ears and nose! GfS |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Becca72 Date: 17 Apr 12 - 01:31 PM They only have 2 original members now; Tommy Shaw and James Young - with an appearance every so often by Chuck Panozzo when he's up to it. JY only recently cut off the hair but Tommy still has wonderful flowing locks... Official website for Tommy Shaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Mrrzy Date: 17 Apr 12 - 01:35 PM I don't even believe in this thread! |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 01:41 PM JY only recently cut off the hair but Tommy still has wonderful flowing locks. I cut my long hair off in 1980. If I let it grow back it would be called a comb over, or at least a comb back. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: gnu Date: 17 Apr 12 - 01:47 PM JtS... I recall a docu on David Byrne. They wouldn't let him into the choir at school because he had no talent. Just like Ian Anderson, Annie Lennox... Scots don't have talent. Except John MacKenzie, of course. >;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Becca72 Date: 17 Apr 12 - 01:47 PM He also just recently released a Blue Grass album. :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Apr 12 - 02:05 PM I also had very long hair which I cut short(er) on January 2nd, 1980. It seemed like the 60s and 70s were finally over to me at the time. And I felt like a change. So I kept it sort of semi-long, but not like it had been. Then I got a loony girlfriend who wanted it pretty short, so I went along with her for awhile on that. Then I started growing it longer again after I broke up with her. It's now somewhat long and bushy...sort of like Dylan's in '66 more or less. |
Subject: RE: BS: Not! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 02:28 PM Byrne and Anderson either have little talent for singing or they choose not to use it. Lennox is one of the best singers of her generation. I suggest that her exclusion was more a reflection on the choirmaster's abilities than hers. |
