Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 21 Mar 05 - 02:04 PM You know how to smooth talk an old folkie Eleanor! See you there. Keith. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 21 Mar 05 - 08:28 PM Well I don't know one beer from another - I choose the good loking labels - so you never know what I might buy, it might not be all that smooth....... |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 22 Mar 05 - 08:24 PM Then again I could find a good ale guide on Google. Never touch the stuff myself. But I do know a flute tune called the Jug of Brown Ale ... very fast & difficult, I suspect it could only be played stone cold sober. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: GUEST,lanfranc sans cookie Date: 01 Apr 05 - 04:24 AM Next Session at Chauncy Court (spelling corrected) is on Wednesday 13th April at 8:30. For the benefit of Eleanor, and anyone else who gets confused when there are five Wednesdays in a month, in accordance with tradition laid down by our patroness, the lovely and now exiled Jacqui, these sessions are held not on alternate Wednesdays, but on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Ergo, this next session will be three weeks after the last one. I am currently practising with my mini-disk recorder, a mixer and a blumlein pair of microphones in order to record a session for the benefit of Jacqui and Kendall. So far, so good - but, then I will need to transfer the result to a CD. I know it's theoretically possible, but haven't succeeded yet! Alan |

Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: The Unicorn Man Date: 06 Apr 05 - 08:22 AM Your up against it on Wednesdays Wild Willy Barrett is running a club in The Norman King in Dunstable and worse than that, Ross has changed The Bull at Barton nights to Wednesday too. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 06 Apr 05 - 08:32 PM Yes Alan I was a bit confused, but then I had not met you all when the much missed Jacqui initiated these sessions......actually I'm often confused for various reasons ....beg forgiveness. Jacqui sent me some very rude jokes today. Blush. So why are Wednesdays so folk-heavy in the Herts/Beds region? Nothing good on telly? Maybe I can make Barton on our Wednesdays orf. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 11 Apr 05 - 10:31 AM OK now I have my calendar under control , just to remind y'all to grace us with your etc on Wednesday 13th 8.30 at Carol's, Chauncey Court! |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 11 Apr 05 - 11:05 AM What if there are 6 Wednesdays in a month? Hope to see you this 2nd Wednesday. Keith. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Lanfranc Date: 11 Apr 05 - 07:20 PM The sixth Wednesday in the month always falls on the 12th of never. The third Wednesday of the month used to be Bank of England reporting day when I worked in a Bank. Sheffield Wednesday is the only football team named for a day of the week. Paul Simon wrote a song called "Wednesday Morning 3am" which was the title of one of his early albums. "Wednesday's child is full of woe!" - Nonsense, I was born on a Wednesday! Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, is the first Wenesday after Quinquagesima Sunday. Wednesday in German is Mittwoch - literally "mid week" In Latin, Wednesday was DIES MERCURII, which became the French Mercredi... Nowadays, the best place to enjoy a civilised session on a Wednesday evening is at Chauncy Court, Hertford - see you there? Alan |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: breezy Date: 12 Apr 05 - 04:24 AM Keep it up you guys, dont forget your forthcoming appearances in St Albans. Lights an all. 'I woke up it was a Wednesday morning.' No its only Tuesday this a.m. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 12 Apr 05 - 09:19 AM Woke up, it was a Chauncy morning...... |

Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Lanfranc Date: 13 Apr 05 - 01:53 PM I hadn't clocked Breezy as an ABBA fan! It takes all sorts! Alan |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: breezy Date: 13 Apr 05 - 02:41 PM Blame the Mama I even wrote out Waterloo after that European song debut!!! Great stuff to listen and dance to!! Hey Alan ,can you include a number for your spotlight? |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Lanfranc Date: 14 Apr 05 - 08:09 AM Fine session - big on quality rather than quantity of attendees! Jacques Brel, Berthold Brecht, Rudyard Kipling songs (among others)were sung, but no ABBA - Breezy wasn't there! There was also some fine fluting from Eleanor and Hertford Alan. New arrangements pending, but next session will be at Chauncy Court on 27th April. Watch this space. Alan PS The number for Spotlight is 20050612@1930. Lanfranc Live (but partially armless). |

Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 11 May 05 - 05:27 AM Tunes ? We have had the offer of licenced premises, and must decide how often we will meet. The new venue is the Hertford Club, a fine old riverside building bearing some marks of a WW1 Zeppelin attack. I think 25th May is still at Carol's Keith |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Lanfranc Date: 12 May 05 - 11:37 AM From a purely selfish point of view, weekly would be tricky to maintain. Fortnightly, either 1+3 or, preferably, 2+4, is my favoured frequency. (1+3 I have Blackmore on a Monday, and cannot always get out two evenings a week.) Hertford Club sounds good as a venue. Over to others, I'm flexible, and not essential! Alan |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 12 May 05 - 01:31 PM Well I'm happy to do weekly, need the practice I am trying to expand my re-----per------toi---re Anyone know what Rik or Alan M want to do? |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: The Unicorn Man Date: 12 May 05 - 04:22 PM Yes. Rick and Alan M would know. |

From 8th June, sessions transfer to The Hertford Club, Bull Plain, Hertford. 2nd Wednesday to start with, changing to 2nd and 4th if demand warrants. Map of Hertford All welcome, as ever Alan |

Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: The Unicorn Man Date: 26 May 05 - 03:55 PM Coming to see Keith A at The Spotlight on Sunday? I need some tips. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Lanfranc Date: 26 May 05 - 05:00 PM At the moment it's a probable maybe, but status might improve. Tips on what? ... for what? Alan |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 01 Jun 05 - 08:09 PM Yes come all ye to the Hertford Club on the 8th of June. Anyone know which room we will be in? And what is/was it a club OF? Is it the sort of club that would have us as a member? There is a bar I assume? Is it plush? Questions questions. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 02 Jun 05 - 05:24 AM Once known as Conservative Club. Quite plush, but ask and scars of Zeppelin attack will be pointed out. Bar, yes and below pub prices. Keith. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: GUEST,Lanfranc at the orifice Date: 02 Jun 05 - 06:43 AM Is there any risk that Thatcherite lightning will smite an old hippy liberal in the Club formerly known as Conservative? If there is a portrait of Thatcher in sight, is one permitted to turn it to the wall? Or use it as a dart board? We have to know!! Alan |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 03 Jun 05 - 04:45 AM No trappings of Conservatism Alan. Maybe a picture of the Queen. Keith. |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: Lanfranc Date: 03 Jun 05 - 07:43 AM That's OK then - Her Majesty's a very nice girl (even invited me and Lady Lanfranc to her Garden Party once!) Alan |
Subject: RE: Hertford (UK) Wednesday Sessions From: eleanor c Date: 03 Jun 05 - 10:15 AM Well Alan if Thatcherite lightning strikes you it will have torched me first. My next job is going to be a waxwork of George Galloway. Anyone know any songs about waxworks? "With his head tucked underneath my arm" perhaps? And, I get to take measurements of George Galloway's head!! |
