Hi guys, it's sorcha fionn's daughter.
Recently my Dad has been taken into hospital with legionella and he wanted me to inform you all incase anyone had been trying to get in touch with him.
He went to casulty was then sedated for 6 days in intensive care. Doctors did not think he would make it and so me, my mum and my uncle went back to england to be with him and my grandmother.
they found out he had legionella and said that they thought he would still not make it but then they took him off sedation and he was ok for a while. then he went back on for sme reason that I am not sure of yet then he was back off it and is now in his own room on a ward. He now has ecoli and the hospital superbug MRSA. He has great luck lol. But he is making a full recovery and is expected to come out of hospital soon.
He sends this message, " hi everyone, I'm in hospital but well on my way to getting better. And just wanted to let you know that me and sorcha (White tiger) are definately up for Portaferry next year if everyone else is!"

So sorry to hear that Peter has had all this **** thrown at him, but really pleased that he's through the worst and on the way to a good recovery. All strength to him!!! Sending positive thoughts to him and to you and your family. Probably won't get to Portaferry, but have great memories of you there especially of the pancake session!

I contracted MRSA after a small operation a few years ago so I know a little of what he is going through.

I'm sure Peter see's his medical problems as the result of Blair's privatisation initiatives, and that will be a comfort to him at this time.

Those opportunistic hospital infections are what scares me the most about hospitals - one of them got my dad some years back.

It is always terrible to hear of a Mudcatter laid up. Don't know Fionn , of course, or any of the members, but I feel as if I do having read your postings for 6 years now (On and off that is, I've had a few hospital stays myself.)

Well, here I am, back in harness at the keyboard. There was a difficult week when the family, including Sorcha (White Tiger) were told I couldn't last more than a few days, but somehow things turned round. There was a big setback when e coli and MRSA added themselves to the concoction of killer infections in my system, but thewe were quite easily managed and this time a good outcome was always predicted.

I am out of hospital, obviously very much recovered, but amazingly weak. I weigh just over 10 stone (140 pounds, 62 kilograms) and need to gain more than 15 kilograms (34 pounds?) to get back to my normal fit weight. I am gradually becoming mobile, venturing a yard or two farther each day, like a cat charting out new territory.

Many thanks for all the messages, not only from friends, but also from those I've annoyed (Big Mick and WYSIWYG in particular in the latter category - especially WYSIWYG's self-constraint, LOL) Those from alanabit and kat bowled me over - I can't live up to that!

Wow - so glad to hear you survived all that!

in 1994, I had a bout with a Strep throat which progressed to ulcered tonsilities that eventually turned into full blown Scarlet fever. Only problem was, none of the young doctors I went to had ever seen a case of Scarlet fever (Strep gone into the bloodstream, causing red rashes behind the knees, on the neck, inside thighs and in arm pits at first).

I was misdiagnosed first as having a spider bite which is common in Los Angeles and then when it spread, they thought it was an allergic reaction to detergent or soap. When I looked like a lobster, none of them could believe it wasn't a sunburn. When darker red welts formed over the suburn looking rash, I went to an emrgency room and got shut off in isolation becuase they thought I had German Measles or some rare tropical disease. Finally, a 73 year old doctor walked in, took one look at me, gave me the once over and said "Scarlet Fever, give the girl some penicillin and send her home."

I spent 2 weeks having to lay in the dark and not watch TV or read. Freinds came over and read to me using little booklights. I was bored out of my mind when I was awake which wasn't often. That series of illnesses took the bounce out of my bungee to quote Hutch of Wallace and Gromit's wererabbit film. When I emerged from it, I weighed 108 pounds (I'm 5 foot 11 inches BTW)!

Moral of the story - I lived through i!

Peter seems to have lived through his trial for which I am very grateful. I hope he doesn't have to spend his recovery in the dark with no TV or books! Cheers Peter. Glad you proved those docs wrong and lived! I bet you're glad too, eh?
