Subject: RE: BS: Peter K (Fionn) has legionella From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Oct 06 - 01:08 PM Well. I'm glad you're back but you have to look at it differently. I mean what the hell is the use of being hospitalized if it doesn't result in a near-death experience? It's good for your family as well. See, if you're in for awhile because you ar having your feet scraped, they get bored and generally pissed having to make the repeated trips to visit you. However if you're looking like you might check out, they don't seem to mind as much. Then there's the drugs. When you're really critical you get some real quality shit and can cop a significant buzz. Plus, if you're in a coma, even a medically induced one, you can catch up on all that rest you've been missing......AND, you've already seen the results from a dieting standpoint. After you get used to the Vent, you don't even have to worry about breathing! Now those hospital born post trauma illnesses are great. Myself, I had a couple of staph problems but instead of the E.Coli., might I recommend another intestinal bug called C.Dif.? It has become very big around here to the point of being medically resistant and a chronic condition that requires constant monitoring and massive doses of "good" bacteria for months and months. E.Coli ends to quickly. C.Dif just keeps on giving. It's those continuing potential killers that keep your family interested and not just pissed because you're screwing up their daily life. It is simply a matter of perspective. Welcome back! Spaw |

Wow, what a long, strange trip you've been on to the hospital and back! Crazy how those bugs float around and add more illness. So glad to see you back again! Take care, Alice |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter K (Fionn) has legionella From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 12 Oct 06 - 07:46 PM OK, Big Mick, here's the update. Progress has been incredibly good so far - much better than forecast. I have gained about 7 kilograms in the past two weeks and I an managing to do enough exercise to ensure that none of it (so far) is fat! The walking stick was discarded after a few days and I can now walk a couple of miles with no problem. The one thing I can't do is go upstairs two at a time. I still launch my foot on to the second step out of habit - but that's as far as it goes.... By the end of October I aim to be going upstairs two at a time and chewing gum at the same time. Spaw's commoents about relatives/visits were spot on. The more I recovered in hospital, the more the visitor rate dwindled, and the time dragged ever more slowly. Each day was like a year, A year whose days are long. To the dismay of one or two friends and relatives, I've decided to press on with a booked trip to Croatia and Bosnia next week, on the bsis that it would be better to wear out than rust out. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peter K (Fionn) has legionella From: Big Mick Date: 12 Oct 06 - 07:54 PM I like your attitude, you cranky old fart. Good on ya. Have a good time, pay attention to the signals, though. You will know when its time to sit down. I will be confiscating that "wear out than rust out" line. But understand that an attitude like that disqualifies you from any consideration for Layabouts at Large and For Hire. Mick |
