Subject: BS: Memory Juice From: Mr Red Date: 19 Apr 24 - 04:37 AM Maybe 10 years ago I read a report of scientific research that found memory recall performance was better when in the same conditions to when you learned. Sooooooooo, ladies & gentlemen (and Morris dancers) I submit my go to condition. Cider. 1) For social dancing, the 4.5% ABV, in the UK, is enough for a vaso-dilatory effect, which helps blood flow, and oxygen to the muscles. 2) There is enough water to re-hydrate, essential in the summer. 3) And that is the condition in which I learned to strip the willow to a hornpipe (other figures/steppings are available) I can hear the naysayers using the word "drunk" to which I remind peoples that pretty much all medicines have a toxicity level and............ DOSAGE IS EVERYTHING. |
Subject: RE: BS: Memory Juice From: Jack Campin Date: 19 Apr 24 - 11:37 PM The term for that is "state-dependent learning". I first read about it 50 years ago. |
Subject: RE: BS: Memory Juice From: BobL Date: 20 Apr 24 - 01:39 AM I believe it's termed "conditioned recall". And it's one reason why Morris sides should, ideally, practice in the back room of a pub or other licensed premises. |
Subject: RE: BS: Memory Juice From: Mr Red Date: 21 Apr 24 - 07:42 AM I prefer the term, "Memory Juice" because it has a much better placebo effect.............. It helps when assisting novices to Mazurka My other dance is a Porcher - Valse, Schottishe, March. |
Subject: RE: BS: Memory Juice From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 21 Apr 24 - 10:40 AM For me, merlot or medoc from South America (or failing that, plonque rouge de la maison) Does The Right Thing. I've been known to call it "bard juice" in public, with mischief aforethought, and have yet to be corrected: the true bard juice is mead. |
Subject: RE: BS: Memory Juice From: Mr Red Date: 30 Apr 24 - 01:23 AM Surprisingly I am, what is referred to in the wine trade, as a "red head". The mix of alcohols** that give rise to the colour & taste, make for headaches quicker. ** also called congeners (he said from memory) |
Subject: RE: BS: Memory Juice From: Mr Red Date: 15 Nov 24 - 11:07 AM Recently view this video - Neil deGrasse Tyson & Chuck Nice in discussion with Daniel Levitin about memory and brain stuff. YouTube Video if you are into how yer brain works, start at 0, otherwise the SDMR comes in after 48 mins. He came up with the term State Dependant Memory Retrieval which he attributed to Gordon Bower (Stanford) who used the term State Dependant Memory and it is about how you "feel" rather than just the situational environ. Gordon Bower on Wiki I can say, though the experiment is ever ongoing, Memory Juice makes me feel! |
