Subject: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: GUEST,E.W. Wriggler Date: 22 Oct 08 - 04:22 AM Have you ever suffered a persistant (and after a while debilitating) worm jammed in your intestine? do you find yourself , deep in concentration on something important, groaning as your stomach reels from the rampant visitor(s) within? Have you saved on the time and cost of colonic irrigations by the violent attention of an internal microscopic tapdancer? have you ever been diagnosed with Giardia and discovered it's NOT a latin lover, but a very stubborn and persistent - parasitic infection? if the answer to ANY of the above is yes, How do you get rid of it? I ask because a recent visitor has set up a colony in my intestine and is internally stalking me, resurging ever 20 days or so to remind me of my mortality. I initially tried ignoring it and hoping it would go away. I then got tough and took antibiotics. When chemicals failed, I tried liquid olive extract. I have never had such a persistent admirer and last night resorted to eating large amounts of raw garlic. I have endured a day of feeling like a garlic bomb exploded inside me, and it seems like the cure is just as bad as the cause. Mudcatters, from around the world, with your encyclopaedic and expert knowledge of life, the universe and everything, any suggestions for WORMS? hopefully Edith Winsome Wriggler (Just call me * EW * ) |

Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: GUEST,E.W. Wriggler Date: 22 Oct 08 - 04:54 AM Well spotted, Mr Offer, and a very good point made there, I suggest catters wipe their keyboard AND screen after reading this thread as it's a highly infectious one. But despite appreciating your genial good will, I also still am very keen for advice as to how to eliminate this unpleasant infestation. I've tried pressing DELETE to no avail, CUT and PASTE has been ineffective, and drinking gallons of water, which left me a little flushed. Is there a herballistic out there with some wisdom to share?? yours EW |

Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: Rapparee Date: 22 Oct 08 - 08:34 AM My granma used to use coal oil and sugar, with a healthy dose of hot red pepper stirred in. In fact she used it for intestinal worms, head colds, appendicitis, ruptures, rusty nail punctures, diarrhea, colic, St. Vitus Dance, thumb sucking, bed wetting, hives, measles, mumps, acne, hair loss, "female problems," loss of virility, and to start the morning fire in the stove. Everyone in HER family was healthy as a horse, too. Nobody wanted to be treated with her medicine, so that stayed healty. |

Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: bobad Date: 22 Oct 08 - 09:16 AM OK, here's what you do. In the evening, before bed, drink a glass of milk and eat a cookie. Do this for five days. On the sixth day just drink the glass of milk. When the worm sticks it's head out and says "hey, where's my cookie", you hit it on the head with a hammer. |

Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: Bee Date: 22 Oct 08 - 03:38 PM True story: Scene: a pleasantly darkened nap room in a day care centre. Two dozen preschoolers dreaming away with their blankies on their little cots. Reading quietly in the middle, a young man on a chair, who glances around now and then to see that all is well. Rustling sounds. Young man looks to the source. Small girl is wriggling about on her cot. "Are you okay, Ellie?" he whispers. "Yah!" she whispers back. "Okay, then try to go to sleep." Muted rustlings ensue, then silence. A moment passes. "Trevor?" "What is it, Ellie?" "Here!" she hold out her closed hand. The young man holds his hand out. She drops something in it, something warm. He strains to see in the dim light, but can't make it out. "What is it, Ellie?" "I don't know..... "...it came out my bum." (Did I mention this young man is rather squeamish, and hasn't been a day care worker for very long?) He rises quickly, opens the door to let some light in. As he does, the thing in his hand moves. The beginnnings of a high thin scream is barely supressed as he rushes to the staff room across the hall. Biggest roundworm I've ever seen - eight inches long at least. |

Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: jimmyt Date: 22 Oct 08 - 04:45 PM What antibiotic were you taking? It should be Flagyl for a week, and if not cured, an additional week, followed by changing to a different antibiotic if needed. Giardia Lamblia is nothing to mess with and certainly home spun remedies will not be effective. Did you dring from a mountain stream to acguire it? that is a failry common way, the streams in the California mountrains although very inviting with their clear cold water often harbor Giardia Lamblia. Certainly not the owert of the worm parasites, though. I worked with a parasite in a tropical health department program I worked in during dental school. A species called Mesosestoides Corti, that was spread by snakes and fish in Asia that would go into a larval stage in warm blooded host (man) and there would be billions of the little buggers until the patient died. |

At the time, I was astounded to see one that big, and likely only ever saw one or two before, little ones. It looked like a big flaccid whitish earthworm, in fact. Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: Jack Campin Date: 22 Oct 08 - 07:45 PM Jimmyt is right. DO NOT mess about with traditional remedies for this. Giardia is very difficult to kill off. Probiotics can help, but only if you take them AS WELL AS something like Flagyl. |

Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: GUEST, E.W. Wriggler Date: 23 Oct 08 - 07:49 AM The comments on this thread have been moving. It has been heartening to read the diverse wisdom, including the very prudent comments re Flagyll. Yes, my doc flagyllated me but i think I need a second bout. i imbibed some more garlic today, and strangely, while no one seems to want to be near me, it felt good. I guess we're all just a bunch of microorganisms anyway, controlled by a sort of giant computer in the head that thinks it's in control. so, in some ways, this experience has been a spiritual one. I never feel alone anymore, because I'm reminded that I have company. I appreciate the bonhomie and bon mots. soon i hope to report that the little ones have been empowered. I hope to engage in some internal capacity building, to assist them so they are no longer dependant on me and can find their own way in life, reach out into the sun, so to speak. If not, i'LL BLITZ THE BASTARDS. kind regards E.W. |
Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Oct 08 - 08:04 AM Giardia? I suppose this is the culprit then. It's not really a worm, but a "flagellated protozoan parasite." Here's an article from the US Center for Disease Control. Yes, going to a doctor seems to be the right thing to do. Maybe Edith has already been to a doctor. Otherwise, how could she have known it was Giardia? On the other hand, why did she think Giardia was a worm? |
Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: Rapparee Date: 23 Oct 08 - 09:13 AM Here's another bang-on cure: Eat bread crumbled into milk only sprinkle a gill gunpowder (the old-fashioned black powder kind, not the new "smokeless powder") into it first. Don't smoke while preparing this. If, however, you don't WANT to try these recipes I heartily endorse a good doctor, 'cause Death might not be be part of your plans for the immediate future. |

Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 24 Oct 08 - 04:49 AM Come to think of it, we have several parasitic worms running for office!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: Grab Date: 24 Oct 08 - 08:54 AM i think I need a second bout Almost certainly. Most of these, you kill off the adults with whatever stuff you take to get rid of them, but the eggs in your system are still around. An *essential* part of treatment is to hit them with a second dose after the eggs have hatched but before the critters get to reproduce. For most of them, I think that's two weeks. OTOH, I also remember the NewScientist article a little while back where people with IBS were deliberately given parasitic worms that live in pigs. The worms couldn't survive long-term in humans, but did for a bit. Most of these people, their IBS cleared up. A major current hypothesis is that IBS and other similar grief is caused by a lack of internal parasites, so your body's defence mechanisms get over-sensitive with nothing to do. Graham. |
Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: Rapparee Date: 24 Oct 08 - 09:06 AM Boy oh boy, when I was growing up my immune system had PLENTY to do! Stepping on rusty nails, eating...well, eating wild food without washing it, fish hooks in the fingers, cuts with a corn knife on the leg, being dropped on my head by my mother, my brother cutting my with a shovel while we were digging in dirt from the cemetery...hell's bells, I'll probably never die. |
Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: bobad Date: 24 Oct 08 - 09:38 AM The current popular hypothesis for the cause of a spike in asthma and allergies in children is that we are living in a more sanitized and sheltered world, depriving the immune system the stimuli it needs to fully develop. |
Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: gnu Date: 24 Oct 08 - 03:02 PM Yes, bobad. And, also, here in NB, our government is outsourcing the building and operation of schools. The for-profit companies that get these contracts only care about the bottom line, so the schools are definitely hazards for such problems due to the materials used for construction and due to the fact that fresh air costs money. I find this absolutely sickening. So do many children. |
Subject: RE: BS: A plague of stomach worms From: gnu Date: 24 Oct 08 - 03:04 PM Oh... in case you didn't see this.... Subject: RE: BS: Clam Chowder without milk??!! From: gnu - PM Date: 21 Oct 08 - 02:59 PM Hehehe... minds me. That talk and slide show... that lad was the sfter dinner speaker at a house dinner (house = uni men's residence). Our Don's wife was a biology prof and she arranged for the talk. One part of the talk dealt with worms from undercooked fish and seafood. Some of these worms live in the last quarter of the bowels. When the host is sleeping, they push their way partly past the anal sphincter and lay eggs. I shall stop there and not relay the remainder of the cycle of procreation. Suffice it to say that it involves itchiness in that region. The speaker also said that if anyone thought they might be subject to such a parasite, they need only perform a simple task. Upon waking in the morn, they could pat a small piece of clear "Scotch Brand Tape" near the sphinter and subsequently fold it, thereby trapping any eggs, and submit it to our "Den Mother", as he called the Don's wife, in his rather austere English accent, for her analysis. Well, our house had it's own dining hall, replete with a 72 year old cook who was often was forgetful. And, the kitchen served deep fried battered fish once a week. Out of 64 residents, 55 submitted said pieces of tape within two days and all tested positive. The orange flavoured powder we were given to mix with water and drink daily for three days was tasty, but the lineups at the house toilets were excruciating. Anyway, the bi-valves and bottom feeders in the Northumberland straight are extra tasty. |
