Subject: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 21 Feb 08 - 01:12 PM After the success of the sessions held on prior years at Faldingworth in Lincolnshire, the Chairman of Faldingworth Memorial Hall asked me if it was possible to have another one on Saturday June 14th 2008. The session would be in the Village Hall from 1:00pm to 5:00pm and there would be a BBQ outside and a bar. The hall can hold 100 people, so plenty of room for a mammoth session :-) It would be really nice if we can get this up and running. Any takers? We would have to stop at 5 as we have a concert in the evening with Allan Taylor and will need to prepare for that. Tickets can be reserved in advance for that - tickets £7. Look forward to hearing from you session players. Incidentally the villagers really enjoyed the past ones. Cheers Les Worrall http://www.faldingworthlive.co.uk |

So does that mean that you & Mick will partake in the session or just chill out? Dáithí I can take that as a yes then! Now where is Banjo Flower, Doug Chadwick, 12 String Growler, Lawrie, Whacko Jacko, Oakley, Mr & Mrs Sooz, Twangy, Rockhen and anybody else who would like to be involved? Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Tim Leaning Date: 23 Feb 08 - 12:23 PM JB Dont forget to hold back. You dont want to get a rep for upstaging the main acts Bet you are hard to follow. Blackdiamond I hope they let us newbies get a look in I will struggle like billyoh the speed these old hands get up too. But they were a very pleasent bunch and most of them looked quite kind. Before anyone asks Les can we have a piano? |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 23 Feb 08 - 12:27 PM Lin Of course you can, but am not sure what the level of musicians will be. It was very good last time. Maybe when we get things a bit more organised, it may be possible to do soemthing for all levels. Les |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 23 Feb 08 - 12:28 PM How will you get the piano there Tim? |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Tim Leaning Date: 23 Feb 08 - 04:34 PM Well If I not carefull I will be hiding it in one of my body cavities. LOL I heard from Rockhen her computer playing up so thought Hmmmm I think if she could go she would prefer to play piano so I asked. |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Backwoodsman Date: 24 Feb 08 - 01:49 PM "You dont want to get a rep for upstaging the main acts" Errrrrmmmm, ????????????????????????????????????????? Not aware I'd ever done that Tim! |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 24 Feb 08 - 03:19 PM Whats wrong with Rockhen playing melodeon? |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rockhen Date: 24 Feb 08 - 03:42 PM I don't play it and I far prefer my piano to the piano accordion that I do play, as I am much better on the piano. But...bring my electric piano? yeah right, I know there is a piano at Faldingworth but it isn't that great...erm...am I being unfair at assuming there may now follow a silent tumbleweed moment.............................? |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 24 Feb 08 - 03:58 PM Now when was the last time you came to Faldingworth Rockhen? The piano is no longer - it is extinct - as dead as a parrot. Look at the photo's of Jez & Kate and you will see that the piano has been replaced with the PA cupboards No Piano :-) Apologies. You are correct it is the piano Accordian you play - just testing you :-) hrummppphhh. Is it Jacqui that plays the melodeon? I guess all I can say, is let me sort out who will be the master of ceremonies and we can try and see if it is possible. You know I don't have a problem with piano. A touch of Jerry Lee Lewis or Little Richard would go down great :-) |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rockhen Date: 24 Feb 08 - 06:05 PM Jacqui plays concertina, Villan. I should have remembered re the piano as I did know it had gone when the new stage and PA arrived. I do know you don't have a problem with piano. I have been playing Ray Charles and Jerry Lee tonight with the GBs as it happens, along with some rusty (the playing, not the instrument!) saxophone! There are a few months before the session anyway. My gripe is not with you re using my electric piano, Villan, so apologies in return...it is elsewhere that I am met with negativity re electric piano being considered acceptable to be played as a replacement for a traditional one. All the best for the session and will check the thread again! |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rockhen Date: 24 Feb 08 - 06:51 PM PS If anyone has strong feelings either way, about my post above, please PM me as I feel it is not the subject of the thread, so should probably be discussed elsewhere. I wish all who are involved with organising and/or those who go to the session, all the best. Let the thread continue re the original subject, as intended, lol! |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 25 Feb 08 - 03:23 AM >>Jacqui plays concertina<< Well there you go, I could have sworn that one of you played melodeon. Les gets his coat and gives the optician a visit. |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 25 Feb 08 - 08:07 AM You are very welcome to join the session with your piano Rockhen. So look forward to seeing you and you will be made very welcome. Is Jacqui going to come along and play her concertina? |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 25 Feb 08 - 08:33 AM Too many very welcomes in the last thread but you are very welcome :-) |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rockhen Date: 25 Feb 08 - 12:01 PM The chance to play and the chance to hear Allan Taylor on the same day...sounds great to me, what are you cooking for tea, Villan?! lol Will ask Jacqui re her concertina, whistles etc, thanks |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rockhen Date: 25 Feb 08 - 12:06 PM I DID read the whole thread honest but recent removal of wisdom teeth and all that.....yes, we can have BBQ for our tea, I know you posted that at the start, I know, I know, sorrry sorrrrrry sorrrrrry! |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 25 Feb 08 - 12:45 PM Don't forget to reserve those tickets early Rockhen. Tickets go quickly. Dave is your chef, so you should get a good BBQ :-) |

Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 04 Mar 08 - 03:09 AM The list builds slowly. However there appears to be enough interest to make it happen, so can those that would like to be part of it, please put it in your diary. Looking forward to it already. Faldingworth Mudgather. |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Backwoodsman Date: 04 Mar 08 - 08:09 AM Relax Les. It will happen. Sessions are informal gatherings. You don't book musicians and you certainly don't book the audience! Take a Chill-Pill, man! :-) |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 04 Mar 08 - 08:36 AM Not trying to do that John. Just seeing whether there was an interest. Its in the diary and will happen, whoever wants to come along. I am actually doing this on bahalf and at the request of Dave Longden, not myself. It has nothing to do with the concert in the evening. Its more to do with the old scarecrow event that doesn't happen any more and the fact that the villagers enjoyed the previous sessions. Trust me for trying to help eh. i am chilled. :-) |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Tim Leaning Date: 04 Mar 08 - 08:58 AM Errrr was the scarecrow thing too popular or too much to organise? We went a couple of times with the grandbrat and it was lovely day out just for that and then there was great music to listen to as well. |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 04 Mar 08 - 09:16 AM The people that were in charge of it, just became too old to handle it anymore and unfortunately, as is often the case, nobody around to pick up the pieces and run with it. So yes, too popular and too much to organise Tim. There are signs of new people taking an interest in the Memorial Hall, but it has to be seen if they are willing to take on such an onerous responsibilty. What is a shame, was that the money they made went towards helping the churches and Memorial Hall to keep their heads above water. The only thing that the Memorial Hall makes anything on now is the concerts. What they made in those 2 weeks of the scarecrow event where they had thousands of people visiting the village was generally sufficient to maintain the above buildings. I would imagine, that if the concerts didn't go ahead, you could kiss goodbye to the Memorial Hall to some extent. Even the Post Office has closed. Got the makings of a song me thinks. |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 07 Apr 08 - 03:16 PM Liam Robinson will be the Master of Ceremonies. He will cater for slow sessions and more advanced, so all are welcome (piano's included :-)). If anybody wants to contact him, please PM me and I will give you his telephone number. |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Tim Leaning Date: 07 Apr 08 - 03:23 PM Sounds brilliant mate I would love to come and have a go at a slow thingy. I cant commit to it for awhile though cos offff W! But I know it will be splendiferous and so much fun to be part of and realy will try to be there. |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rasener Date: 08 Apr 08 - 11:07 AM Work on it Tim :-) |
Subject: RE: Faldingworth Session on 14/06/08 UK From: Rockhen Date: 19 Apr 08 - 08:11 AM I am not a regular session player, although I have been to one or two. As it is not a regular established session, could Liam suggest maybe a handful of tunes, or pairs or tunes that could be included within the session? Including the key and even suggestions as to the version, (a link to the notes and/or sound file would be fantastic!)It would mean that those who do not know many or even, any, tunes, could learn them before and join in with a few, at least. I accept that this is maybe not the norm, but, I think it would involve more people and add to the session. It is just a suggestion... |
