Prescott is one of those parliamentarians who earns a lot of affection outside his own party as a straight-talker and a flesh and blood figure in an age of manufactured cardboard politicians.

He's a grass roots Union mouthpiece pushed into that position to please certain Labour voters. He comes across to me like a guy who would be more at ease sitting talking to dockers at a mid week meeting in a working mans club. He is clearly out of his depth in top shelf politics.

At the end of the day John Prescott is in the position he is becuase he is the deputy leader of the labour party and elected to that post by the labour members so realistically he holds quite a significant amount of control over TB where his position is concerned this is why he wasn't totally sacked after a)punching a member of the public b) sleaze allegations regarding his personal finances & housing arrangements c)sleeping with his secretary and embarrasing the government generally by being an incomprehensible, overblown buffoon who uses his position to further his greed for luxery cars, luxury flats and women. Realistically he is a working class boy who made good and then went a bit too far - but no leader will sack him while he is held by the labour party as their last survivor of the old guard - even though he appears to stand for nothing but his own advancement - there thats my opinion!

John Prescott is not from Hull. He's the MP for one of Hull's constituencies. He was born in Prestatyn, Wales and went to school in Ellesmere Port. So, unlike me, he is not 'from Hull'.

It's just that being 'from Hull' is a special trick. It's, like, a birthright.

The only people who can really disown him are the Labour Party who elected him their deputy leader. John is not going to disown himself. And the people of East Hull keep re-electing him. But in East Hull they don't count Labour votes. They just put them in sacks and weigh them!

Way too many "Labour" ministers enjoy hob-nobbing with millionaires, if you ask me. And as for the Queen's English, I've long had the suspicion that Prescott mangles the language NOT because he is stupid or illiterate or working class, but because it's a very useful way of not anwering the question.
