Subject: RE: Req.: Wexford mummer's song From: Alice Date: 27 Feb 98 - 05:17 PM Do you mean the one that begins, " In Derry Town there dwelt two maids...." Mary O'Hara recorded it. Is that the one you mean? I have it memorized, just a little sketchy on the spelling of "there dwelt two maids in Shroden (sp?)" alice |

Subject: Lyr Add: WEXFORD MUMMER'S SONG From: Alice Date: 27 Feb 98 - 09:03 PM Wolfgang, here is the version I know.
WEXFORD MUMMER'S SONG
In Derry Town there dwelt two maids,
Now these two maids led an awful life,
Now Nancy bought a little pig,
Now these two pigs went out one day,
Nancy died of a Saturday night,
Now these two maids are dead and gone, alice, mt |

Subject: RE: Req.: Wexford mummer's song From: Alice Date: 28 Feb 98 - 12:19 PM Joe, I don't have a way to generate a midi for it yet. Midi keyboard is still on the wishlist. It's a great, fastpaced song, and fun to sing. When you hold onto the last word of each verse and slide into the quick "fa la las" with the same breath, it really is fun. All I can do is recommend finding a tape or cd release of Mary O'Hara's Songs of Ireland. Someone who heard me sing it once told me they had heard another recording of it done exactly the same way... so it's out there. alice |
Subject: RE: Req.: Wexford mummer's song From: Wolfgang Hell Date: 02 Mar 98 - 03:35 AM Thanks a lot, Alice. The version I was looking for starts with these words. I'll find out tonight how close it is, but it sound very close. Wolfgang |
