Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Raggytash Date: 20 Oct 19 - 11:20 AM A "world series" where only one nation competes is not a world series. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 20 Oct 19 - 11:37 AM Whatever it is I can't wait, my two favorite teams (Nats #1, Astros #2) going at it. Last night's closeout of the Yanks was a first class thriller with the Yanks comeback in the top of the 9th and Altuve's walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: robomatic Date: 20 Oct 19 - 03:41 PM Chuck Todd ended Sunday morning's "Meet the Press" by pointing at the screen and saying "Houston, YOU'VE got a problem!" Great Line (and for those who don't get it, think Apollo 13). |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 20 Oct 19 - 05:29 PM I wondered if it should called the American World Series but Football/Soccer has its curious names too. We compete for a flag and trophy but they play for the World Jock Strap. A ticket in DC costs a minimum of $700. (standing room) |

Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 20 Oct 19 - 06:20 PM Remember the old saw about the Senators, “Washington: First in war, first in peace, and last in the American League,” As a kid who grew up a fan in the 50's, 60's and briefly in the 70's, before they skedaddled, I can attest to it's veracity. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: robomatic Date: 20 Oct 19 - 07:46 PM Viz. the great musical and almost great movie about the Senators achieving the pennant: "Damn Yankees". With the great Gwen Verdun and choreography by Bob Fosse. Dated but a lot of fun. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 20 Oct 19 - 08:02 PM Astros win game 1 Nats win 3 in a row Astros win game 5 and Nats win in game 6 in TX |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Rapparee Date: 21 Oct 19 - 09:16 AM Cleveland takes the first three, the Cubs take game four, and Cincinnati takes five and six. In the seventh there is an earthquake and the yet-to-be-determined stadium is swallowed up by a huge crack in the Earth. Fans are declared the winners. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 21 Oct 19 - 10:06 PM We are about to end the great drought in available baseball games to attend. It starts up tommorow. However dozens of lives have been saved by those who were forced to eat nothing but dippin dots, mystery sausage and 10 dollar cokes not to mention watery beer. Those die hard baseball fans were forced to make new dietary choices to the Baseball park Nachos and such and are feeling much better now. The most expensive game tickets are as low as $26,000 for game 7. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 21 Oct 19 - 10:19 PM income inequality must be taken advantage of by America's past time to afford good hitters and good pitchers. This year you will see more rich people at the game than at the super yacht marina in Monaco. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 22 Oct 19 - 06:46 AM One 4 seam fastball from Gerrit Cole and they'd scurry back to Manila. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 22 Oct 19 - 06:57 AM I just learned that the DC Negro team 'the Grays' won the Negro World Series in 42,43 and 46. Today Griffiths field is a hospital. go team |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 22 Oct 19 - 07:23 AM The Homestead Grays from that era may be the best baseball team ever assembled, with Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Buck Leonard, et al. I whiled away many happy summer afternoons with my chums at Griffith Stadium watching our lousy old Senators but by that time the Grays were defunct. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 22 Oct 19 - 09:17 AM It seems I was confusing those war time Grays with the 1933 Pittsburgh Crawfords who had many of the same players, Gibson, Bell, Charleston who were all closer to their prime, plus a young Satchel Paige. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 22 Oct 19 - 02:37 PM If only we had digital tech back then. We could reconstruct a virtual show down between Paige and Ryan. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 23 Oct 19 - 05:54 PM Nats won one that no one thought they would last night. They touched the invincible Gerrit Cole (16-0 w/ an era of .41 since may 22) for 5 runs. A gritty performance by Max Scherzer who pitched himself out of jams numerous times and 20 yr. old Juan Soto had a big night at the plate. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 23 Oct 19 - 07:48 PM Cole's first defeat in 6 months came in the sweet 5th with some broken bat Nat hits. A sweep would be neat but my best guess is now a mess. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Hrothgar Date: 24 Oct 19 - 05:28 AM This bloody machine is getting at me. First, it is named after the newspaper that started it. "The World" might not be around any more, but its name lives on. Second, if anybody knows of better baseball teams in the world, tell me about them. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 24 Oct 19 - 07:15 AM For such a long game it is all about split second decisions that take .01 seconds or less. Hrothgar, the Dominican Republic? |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 24 Oct 19 - 07:37 AM Nats go medieval on Astos, 12-3. |

Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 24 Oct 19 - 04:42 PM I need a night off myself after Tuesday's nail-biter and last night's 6 tense innings until the Nat's explosion in the 7th. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 25 Oct 19 - 07:09 AM DC is full of tired sleep deprived government workers who are too weary to even notice the antics of the orange one. One can actually see it on the roads and in traffic accidents. Meanwhile there is alot of baseball comraderie with strangers everywhere you go. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 25 Oct 19 - 08:31 AM I'd love to be up there in autumn in D.C., sample some of the rec. pot and see a game but at $724 SRO I'll just watch it on TV. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 25 Oct 19 - 09:44 AM Snacks at the park include winner winner turkey dinner (1&1/2 lbs. turkey wing, bisquit etc), bag of chocolate with whole glazed fruit on top (bag made of quality chocolate), Chicken sandwhich with mumbo sauce... but unfortunetly the ENTIRE region, since raining and following several months of drought, SMELLS like penetrating pungent dog shit. It is oppresive even at night. The bio decay usually smells like rotton apples but not this year, everyone has noticed it. They say in DC if you want a friend you better get a dog. I blame the recent Republican shenanigans. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 25 Oct 19 - 09:53 AM "but unfortunetly the ENTIRE region, since raining and following several months of drought, SMELLS like penetrating pungent dog shit." I think what you're smelling is Trump. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 25 Oct 19 - 11:27 AM A stench along the Potomac, Redolent of a flatulent rump, Is attributed to drought conditions, But we all know it's Trump. I'm not making light of the situation up there just taking a dig at the most incompetent and dangerous president in our modern history. I understand there is a "low tide" aroma in the area which becomes stronger as you near the river. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 25 Oct 19 - 12:00 PM In actuality the river is not bad, even hundreds of dolphin have returned to spawn. There was big die off of oysters from last year but that smell has cleared. I do not know for sure that the DC aroma is a new bacterial biom or that the smell is pure dogshit decay but it sure as shit smells like it. New water taxis, ride sharing to the game and Metro staying open till 1, will help along with road closures and special expensive parking but there is a bus strike. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 25 Oct 19 - 01:09 PM A long time friend of mine who kayaks the Potomac in the Chain Bridge down to Georgetown area tells me of mudflats along the river that are not there in years of normal water levels that are giving off a tremendous stench. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Mrrzy Date: 26 Oct 19 - 05:03 PM But why did the Nats pick the Walgreens logo? |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: Donuel Date: 26 Oct 19 - 06:16 PM At Great Falls the river depth/hieght can vary by 70 feet because of a pinch point. Not all kayakers survive the falls. Houston deserves not to be swept but even in defeat the Nats looked strong. |
Subject: RE: BS: World Series 2019 From: gillymor Date: 27 Oct 19 - 07:07 AM The Nat's "curly W" is similar to the Walgreen's logo but appears to be a exact replica of the old Senators W. Series knotted up as the Astros come storming back. |
