"For those who don't find this type of thread offensive, would you find one entitled "Mudcat Ugly Contest" to be equally inoffensive?"

Hey, something I can win for a change!

Bloody 'ell! I posted to the wrong fread. Well...'ere you 'ave it. A ragin' bit o' manly beauty that carn't be equalled or bested.

A bit of all right!

They say in the Independent Press that it's jOhn from 'Ull and a mate of 'is, also known as "'Ulldown Man'", but it's not. I mean it's not jOhn from 'Ull is wot I mean. It might be 'Ulldown Man all right. I've seen jOhn, and 'e's ugly as sin! As for 'is mates, they ain't much better. This 'ere bloke in the front is a real piece o' manflesh wot I wouldn't mind 'avin' a toss wif I was not in 'oly matrimony already.

I'm voting for Joybell just because she makes me smile. :)

And for the Mudcat Men...well aside from the love of my life who posts from time to time, I'm votin' for Giok and Hardi as they both absolutely crack me up!

:) Take that outside stuff and do with it what you will, I'm partial to the insides myself. :)

Peace,

In days of yore, I started a thread called 'What Brand Of Condoms Do Mudcatters Prefer?' I did that only to point up how dumb and off the folk music topic threads were becoming! One of the few things that thread succeeded in doing was to draw more and more silly comments and posts to itself. The second thing it did was to start the ball rolling to divide the threads into music related ones and/or B.S. ones. More often than not, now, the BS threads turn either serious or funny. This, like many other of the B.S. threads, has become both 'serious' AND 'funny'. (You'll need a sense of humor to notice it though.)

i.e. How many (pick your nationality, or your political, or sexual, or philosophical preference, or economic system) does it take to screw in a light bulb?
ANSWER from the true believer: "That's not funny !!!!"

Peace, no, I wouldn't've started this thread. Why? Because over the years of my life, as I have aged and grown uglier, I have learned to look as deep as I can right away for the wonders within other people---and I hope they do the same with me. In the old days, though, I would've, as Joseph Campbell also said, been a slave to "the zeal of the loins!"   Now, I'm older and wiser, but because of M.S. alas it's a moot point...

I loved the 1960s !!! ;-) It was a great decade to be 20 years old within!!

While most of you Mudcatters are real nice people and pretty good musicians, holding a Beauty Contest in Mudcatland is like holidng a Most Honest Politician Contest in Washington. I've seen the pictures. There really isn't going to be a winner. But hey, beauty is only skin deep.

OK, since you brought it up, here goes...

I have to say, just to flip the coin for a minute: I often wonder where in the world all you beautiful Mudcat men come from. This community is no cross-section of any life I'VE ever lived. One after another after another (and I will not name names) who are lovely, appealing, smart, funny, loving, genuinely good and gorgeous men. Now, would I pick their photos out of a centerfold gallery, sight unseen? Probably not. But one by one, as I meet and get to know them, I re-define beauty and love.

And, have you noticed? They're either alREADY well-married, or if they aren't, they get snapped up awful quick (Max, Joe, Kendall.... they're dropping like flies). Because SOMEONE has recognized that beauty and claimed it for their own.

Well. That said, I have to tell you one secret and obscure fact of my life....

At 18, I was a runner-up (sniff) for Wilkes-Barre PA's Miss Oktoberfest. It's all been downhill since then.

Dani

Ah, yes, I have been reminded that the scourge of Mudcat doesn't live in Canada (lucky Canada!). Brain fart. It happens. Maybe it was wishful thinking that he was someone else's problem.

What's the most beautiful Mudcat mind? Character? Instrument?

I do have to say that CarolC is really attractive by a lot of different standards. I haven't seen everyone's photos though, and it is really difficult to compare different people's beauty. To pick a winner in any beauty contest you'd always have to use some kind of subjective measure.

(And I'm a lot more beautiful now that I've gained a few pounds and a few more years of life experience than I was at 25 and 116 pounds! Too damn skinny, that was.)

Well, this has been an interesting thread to wander into.....With all due respect, (and I thank you kindly for your complements, Sins and Giok), I'm not in the running!

Truly, the folks I met at the GETAWAY are as beautiful as one could EVER hope to meet in this lifetime! If one could capture on film, the radience shining from those hearts, THERE would be a picture of true beauty!! I loved every one of 'em and it had nothing to do with facial features.

Just today I was listening to a recording of one of those sessions. Warmed my heart all over again.

Wouldn't it be grand to have a MUDCAT gathering where ALL mudcatters could attend? (In a central location of course.....like, say, Seattle???) Now THAT would be beautiful!

--- Art Theime---

I love that, Art! Think how much we'd miss out on if we didn't?

Shallow shallow shallow! You people need to get past thie physical beauty stuff and focus on what is really significant. SOmething with some true substance, something that says, YES I HAVE VALUE,,,
so I am proposing a very modest THONG CONTEST. Not that I have any personal gains in mind, but being North America's leading supplier of thongs, I should make a few sheckels in the process. I probably could be influenced to throw a precentage MUDCAT way however. Just a thought

Old Maine proverb:
A man is turned on by what he sees.
A woman is turned on by what she feels.

Of course there are exceptions, but I believe the saying holds true for the most part.

Physical appearance can only go so far when calculating "beauty." Considering some of the heated arguments that go on around here and some of the nasty come-backs, I don't think anyone is eligible to win a beauty contest.

A word to the wise in Palestine: be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it.

SRS,

That may be so, but some ladies sure are visual turn-ons. If that ain't beauty in the contest context that I, for one, grew up with, and learned to 'appreciate' back then, even if I now can see some shallowness there, then what is? Like with folk-songs, when I see/hear it, I can enjoy recognizing it for what it is on a basic level that just makes me feel real nice--even without Viagra (in the old days anyhow.)

And that is how I can say that my definition of folk-song is the correct definition. When I hear one, I know it, and recognize it for what it is. It's a folksong. And it's beautiful!!!!!

Kendall does have a great imagination - a quality vital to being a master storyteller. That was very funny.
