Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: Maryrrf Date: 07 Jan 09 - 10:11 AM Jacqui, this sounds exactly like what my 27 year old son had. High temperature (104 F), body aches, upset stomach, and a blotchy rash. They did every kind of test and couldn't figure out what it was but it seemed to run its course after about 5 days and he's back at work today. Good thoughts headed for your grandson. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: Bat Goddess Date: 07 Jan 09 - 12:40 PM Best wishes for a quick recovery whether or not the medical profession figures out exactly what it is. Glad it's NOT all those really nasty things, but fevers, rashes and not being able to eat or keep hydrated is neither fun nor good. Lots of good healing thoughts, prayers, etc. from this neck of the woods -- to Lewis, his parents and to you, dear Jacqui. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: SINSULL Date: 07 Jan 09 - 02:12 PM A friend at my office just stopped me to see if I was OK. The worry is showing. Tell Mommy to make sure those bitchy nurses are treating my little friend right. They do not want to deal with the Wrath of the Evil Sisterhood. Now...how many jumping, singing, farting, dancing wind up toys can I accumulate in a week and fit into one large USPS box? Or maybe I should wait and see what the Wonder Boy would like. Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: jacqui.c Date: 07 Jan 09 - 03:23 PM Sharon emailed me earlier. They saw the dermatologist today who thinks that he might have Stevens Johnson Syndrome, which may have caused septicochal virus. She also wants him specially tested for measles. So, right now, they are not really any further forward and are waiting for yet another doctor's visit. I can see why they call them patients! Many thanks for all the kind messages. Micca will be printing this thread to send to Sharon and Steve when he sends my care package for Lewis. Your thoughts mean a lot to me and I know will mean a lot to them as well. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: VirginiaTam Date: 08 Jan 09 - 01:17 AM Thanks for coming back to us Jacqui.... I will keep an eye on this thread. His symptoms remind me of many an allergic reaction I've had to medications (cillins and sulpha drugs), somes food and insect toxin (flea bites). On occasion could be life threatening but mostly it was only bloody annoying. Praying it is nothing like so serious as SJS and good thoughts still flowing Lewis' way. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: SINSULL Date: 08 Jan 09 - 08:21 AM I dreamt about Lewis last night. He was going to be arrested for taking drugs. The officer was an idiot and I kept telling him thatwhen people are in the hospital they have to take drugs to get better. He finally left. Lewis was riding a bicycle and looked fine. Keeping that picture in my mind. Auntie SINS |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Jan 09 - 09:05 AM I just got this email from Sharon, having asked how Lewis is today. Much brighter-the rash has virtually gone, his eyes are still not right but not as bad as they have been. He's had mouth and eye swabs taken today, more bloods and the cannula taken out!!! We should get test results back this afternoon then we can hopefully go home. They are fairly confident it is the septicochal virus. He is not taking paracetomol or ibrufen any more just to make sure they were not masking his temperature. Has to have another 4 days of anti biotics orally. He's definitely turned the corner!!! Now, maybe, I can start breathing again! |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: Jeri Date: 08 Jan 09 - 09:23 AM Glad to hear the good news! What is a 'septicochal virus'? I can't find anything on it. There's streptococcal bacteria, but otherwise I don't have a clue. (Guessing it's strep, because antibiotics don't work on viruses.) Anyway, I'm just happy he's feeling better. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: bobad Date: 08 Jan 09 - 03:47 PM It was most likely a skin infection caused by the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This is not uncommon and most often occurs in pre-pubertal children. |
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts please for my grandson From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Jan 09 - 03:54 PM Just got a call from Sharon. Lewis was sprung from the hospital late this afternoon. I spoke to him for a moment - he still sounds a bit poorly but is obviously much better. He sent his dad out for KFC for his dinner and, according to Sharon, ate quite a lot - he never has been a big eater normally. They have 24 hour access to the hospital and if they are at all concerned can take him back for a check up without a GP referral, which is a comfort. He's on oral antibiotics for 5 days and, so long as he is fit enough, can go back to school once he finishes the antibiotics. They got back from the hospital to find that a neighbour had left a dish of lasagne for their dinner so they are being taken care of, which is a comfort to me. Lewis still has a way to go before he's totally fit again but it looks like there will be no problems coming out of this. It seems that they were putting lots of antibiotics into him to ward off the possibility of Stevens Johnson Syndrome. Anyway, he's home, neither Sharon or Steve need to be at work until Monday and they are all going to get a well deserved rest for a few days. |
