Subject: RE: Language Please From: Mr Happy Date: 01 Jul 02 - 09:59 AM on tv lately, when a film is about to be shown, there's often a warning announcement about 'adult themes' and 'may contain strong language' what's this 'strong language'- seems to me its just a lot of crude obscenities- eg: 'f**k you, you f**king f**k!' seems like these scripts lack appropriate adjectives & instead substitute the f word. imo this is the very antithesis of 'strong language'- i'd call it weak language. comments? mr h

Subject: RE: Language Please From: Pied Piper Date: 01 Jul 02 - 02:12 PM Swearing is a legitimate part of human language. Where I live in Eccles Manchester UK swearing is part of the normal day to day conversation. I think some one earlier said "bad language" was "low class", that hits the nail on the head. Middle class people have purloined folk music and now the people who's culture it was have to be kept out. The easiest way to do that is through language. Most of the media is in their hands and the cultural genocide of working class folk traditions is almost complete. PP |
Subject: RE: Language Please From: Hrothgar Date: 03 Jul 02 - 03:46 AM I have trouble actually typing out swear words. Must be a combination of my delicate, sensitive nature and my gentle upbringing. |
