Hey Roy, thanks for the link. I really do enjoy the breadth and range here, good call. I only have so many things to say about guitar and music, you know. Not much at all lately. My only reservation about membership is it's kind of a guilty indulgence, time-wise, I'm on here a good bit. You know I voted you up over there but nothing happened, not that it matters, but I enjoyed your unconstrained manner, in that somewhat straightlaced crowd. Fred

Fred: We can all use a little guilty indulgence now and again. Come on, you know you want to. :~) Neil

Howdy, Fred:— Welcome to the Mental Ward.

I've used earthlink as my ISP for a couple years. It costs about $20.00 a month and, for me, it functions well. By way of geographic location, I'm in Seattle (webbed feet, moss on my north side). I've been playing guitar (folk and classic) and singing folk songs for about fifty years, I believe I've attained geezerhood, and it's my ambition to be a curmudgeon when I grow up. My primary function here is to ramble on incessantly about what it was like in "The Good Old Days."

One of the things I love about this place is that if you ask a question, musical or otherwise, most of the time there is someone out there who can give you an answer, or a link to where you can find the answer. Mudcat has a few dark corners with a nasty spider or two in them, but that's incidental. The place can be a real educational experience and a heck of a lot of fun. Almost everybody has knowledge and experience to contribute and I'm looking forward to your posts. It's pretty much what you make of it. Enjoy!!

Don Firth

Well, thanks yall. I'll have to get re-hooked soon. Maybe I can justify it as for my wife, who's heard everything I have to say a few too many times.

Welcome Fred!

I have to admit, I'm a bit confused...are you the son of Jim Miller whose cabin in NC burned last year? He comes to KY Music Week.

Also, Genie, you reminded me of the old joke:

How do you pronounce the name of the capitol of Kentucky? Louie-ville or Louis-ville?

neither!...Frankfort!

I have some information on Kentucky Homefront sent to me in an email by Jim. I'm sure he won't mind my posting it here as a webpage (we corresponded about this.) My apologies for some of the appearance of this page, I had to reduce two of the pictures a lot. Also, I'm about to run out of free space at the ivillage place, so this link may disappear soon. Fred, Funny you should say that. That "straightlaced crowd" got very out of control this week. The, lets say, "most christian folk" said some things that were alittle one sided and stepped on the overall religious freedom of the forum. I pissed a few people off by making a couple of comments that were only intended for the greater good, supporting all members of the forum. And it went downhill from there. So it goes, I tried, I was reasonable. But, you know numbers and the largest mouth wins, reason and greater good means nothing.

Enjoy, Roy

well, well, Roy, lose some stars? Sorry to hear about that sort of thing. I liked people there but it lacked some breadth and tolerance, for me, and again, good call linking me here. I'll have to throw some support, I support MENC without saying anything at all there. And I read a stated refusal to cave to policing pressures here that I admired.

No Mary, my dad was Jim Wayne Miller, a writer, and I often introduce myself as his son because he was nicer, smarter, more use than I, and people loved him all over the place. Your Jim Miller sounds good too. My son is a Jim Miller, and the nicest little guy in the world--what's in that name? Where are you, hereabouts? Juneau the capitol of Alaska?

Fred

Fred, I'm in Bardstown which is close to everything in Kentucky, but really, Kentucky is out of the way for going anywhere else!

Hi Hippie Chick,

It's frowned on to post images in the forum because they take up so much space. That's why in my above message which contained images I made a web page at my free ivillage.com site. I played Secret Santa last December and made several webpages for Mudcatters. Also, the site comes in handy for when I want to show pictures of flowers and stuff. I just make a page there and put a link to that page here. The original info I posted above was sent to me in an email, but it wasn't hard to transfer it to HTML and a web page. If you want me to make a similar page for you just let me know. PM me and I'll send my email addy, then it won't take but a few minutes if the ivillage site is up and running today.

What're you doing there today? My kids just went back to school, I'm going to start back on some goofy projects, and have to change my isp today.

Aye, Fred, glad to have you here. We're a pretty o.k. bunch of folks most of the time --- although some few might say otherwise when our personal buttons get pushed. I'm an old folkie myself and am looking forward to talking atcha through Cyberiaspace.

Thanks Art, I'm having a hard time keeping sorted all the things people say with who they are, just yet, but have seen you around. I feel a bit like an imposter folkie, I like and play one thing and another, but think of folk as my default mode, socially. Folk seems flexible that way I guess.
