Subject: RE: BS: Your 6 items for a still-life From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 23 Jul 06 - 07:38 AM I had such a great time re-reading this thread I wondered if any other Mudcatters would like to add their lists - or alter their original list! 1. A teddy bear (I make them & collect them) 2. book (I've been a reader all my life) 3. A poster for my folk club (always have a few in my bag) 4. A song printed out from Mudcat or another source (& always printed in 12 or 14 font Arial so I can read it!!) 5. Sushi (I take it to clubs & sessions & often have it for dinner) 6. A waistcoat (I'm never seen without one, ditto a hat but that would make 7 items) 1. the general word 'bear'would be replaced by a specific bear who now wears my old boater, it's a tad big for him, but I couldn't throw it away & the charity shops would certainly not want such a battered hat! 3. I no longer automatically carry posters around, so I'll replace it with the club banner otherwise the list holds sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Your 6 items for a still-life From: Ebbie Date: 17 Aug 06 - 02:14 PM I just remembered - years ago I went to a 'retreat' in the course of which we were instructed to draw on a large sheet of paper different images of ourselves in the course of our lives. I found it a pleasing exercise. It became an almost mindless thing. In the middle of the things I drew, I sketched a child, maybe one year old, sitting with a ball on its lap. But when the others saw it, they loved it and kept telling me that I had captured it all- a human being with the world on its lap. I demurred, saying I had only drawn a ball. But on inspection I had to agree- I had clearly drawn a couple of continents on my 'ball'. ? |

Subject: RE: BS: Your 6 items for a still-life From: frogprince Date: 28 Mar 08 - 11:15 AM I'm taking this premise quite literally just now. In a couple of months our local art association will have a show titled "Imagine That", aimed at getting more imaginative/non-realistic art than we usually get submitted. There will be a "people's choice" award competition. To be eligible for the competition, an art work must include at least 5 items from a list of ten: footprint or handprint; timepiece; candle; words; egg; hat; flower; fiber; face; silverware. So far I've put together this photo for one of my entries. We're each allowed 3 eligible pieces. Dean |
