Dear Diary - I got a quick look at the note that the stuffed shirt, Captain West, sent to the Spanish playboy, Espinoza. West speaks of "French rules of engagement". Ha! As if he would know about that! I, Angelique Forget of Rouen shall teach him a thing or two about how the French engage in battle. He will be as a fat, stupid English sheep impaled on a spit by the time I am through with him.

I have spoken to Malcolm on the phone tonight. The sound is dreadful on these lines, but his rich voice still resounds in spite of it. And the accent! Mmmm! He is giving another poetry recital in Vichy. I know what the rascal is up to, seducing silly housewives and cavorting with hotel chambermaids after hours. He is utterly incorrigible. I shall put him throught the third degree when I see him and make him sweat a bit. These Scotsmen in kilts! They are rude and undependable...but also indefatigable. I suppose it is all worth it in the end. Still, I will make him suffer a bit for his indiscretions.

Somewhere in this building the Rutledge bitch is sequestered with her rich Spaniard and Captain West is chewing his nails to the quick while I anticipate the enactment of a sweet revenge. Life is good. Vive la France! Death to the English!
