Subject: RE: BS: This thread intentionally left blank From: Becca72 Date: 25 Jul 06 - 06:33 PM Brain surgeon?? I think it's more "this is what IS allowed and this is what ISN'T allowed. Get rid of the things that aren't allowed". Doesn't seem like brain surgery to me. And I feel qualified to make that judgement. |

Subject: RE: BS: This thread intentionally left blank From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 26 Jul 06 - 01:04 PM Those of us who regularly post to the Mother Of All BS Threads have been using the write-in-white thingie for some time. But just as there is a difference between the MOAB and a typical Mudcat thread, there's a difference in how white writing is used as well. You see, in a typical thread, anyone who is smart enough to do a left click and "view source" can figure out the HTML tag for white writing. But, on the MOAB that's not enough. On the MOAB one must earn the right to write white by going on a quest for the Secret Writing Decoder Ring. Now, the Secret Writing Decoder Ring is hidden somewhere in the Black Hills of North Decoder. That means one must embark upon a senselessly perilous trek to get there but, as in all quests, that's only the beginning. After one gets to the Black Hills one must get down upon hands and knees and search for the Decoder Ring. The Ring itself is not really all that well hidden - it usually only takes about an hour to find it - but crawling around in the Black Hills for even an hour is a very dirty proposition. The Black doesn't stay on the Hills. It rubs off. It's impossible to stay clean and, here's the really tough part, there are no showers in North Decoder. One must drive all the way home feeling all yucky and dirty, knowing that dirt's getting into the car's upholstery which will lower its resale value to roughly that of a half-bucket of squat. And, as we all know, the only thing worth less than a half-bucket of squat is a whole bucket of squat. All things considered, the process is so arduous that nobody with any sense would undertake such a quest. But, hey, whoever said that anyone who posts to the MOAB had any sense? |
Subject: RE: BS: This thread intentionally left blank From: Bill D Date: 26 Jul 06 - 06:04 PM SOUTH Decoder is now vey upset at you, Bee-Dub, for giving those heathens up 'north' all their glory...such as it is. If you get WAY down on your knees in South Decoder (2000 ft. down), you will find the very gold that ring is made of. The only thing NORTH Decoder has is ice cubes, which they export to the south to make drinks for tourists to the Black Hills. |

Subject: RE: BS: This thread intentionally left blank From: Peace Date: 26 Jul 06 - 06:39 PM "If folk are now in roles on our forum that they do not feel themselves qualified to do" I have stayed away from this thread. However, I take issue with Roger on the above statement where he says, 'on our forum'. It is Max's forum, and by proxy due to the trust put in them by Max, it is also Joe and Pene's. There is no we, us, our. Someone who has no place to live stays with you for a year. The guy/gal decides that your taste in coluors for the bedroom walls really sucks, and wants to paint it bright pink to hide your choice of petunia taupe. You say no. The guest then decides you are an idiot and a fascist because you don't want to discuss it. Roger: There is nothing to discuss. (OK, so it's a made-up analogy. BUT, if I friggin' like petunia taupe and really don't like bright pink, then that's the way it is. And I wouldn't give a rat's rear end if the Guest thought otherwise.) I don't agree with every decision regarding some threads. But guess what? It doesn't matter. And basically, it never will. Capiche? |

Subject: RE: BS: This thread intentionally left blank From: The Shambles Date: 27 Jul 06 - 06:23 AM It is Max's forum, and by proxy due to the trust put in them by Max, it is also Joe and Pene's. There is no we, us, our. Having provided this part of his site for the public's contributions - I can't see that Max would have any problem with this being thought to be our forum. However, I can see that the current Chief of the Mudcat Editing Team would now have a problem in thinking that it belongs to anyone other than him. |

Subject: RE: BS: This thread intentionally left blank From: The Shambles Date: 31 Jul 06 - 07:50 PM http://www.classicalnotes.net/columns/silence.html The following from the above site. Most music is trivialized by attempts to describe it. ("The melody is announced by the flutes...") That's not a problem with 4'33". Here's how one performance went: A tuxedoed performer came on stage, sat at a grand piano, opened the lid, occasionally turned some music pages but otherwise sat as quietly as possible for 4 minutes and 33 seconds, then rose, bowed and left. And that was it. |
