I'm REM and my sisters are ELM and DAM (using maiden names) and it hasn't affected any of us adversely...Now in the case of celebrities naming their children things like "Apple" and "Cocoa", yeah the kid's got a reason to gripe.

Yep. Bill Lear, of Learjet and Lear Industries, named his daughter Shanda. I always figured she must have hated him growing up.

Yes, fine, but what has this to do with my point about you avoiding a serious discussion. Do you think you are unable to discuss seriously without calling names etc?. You are still avoiding an answer.

A rich and prominent Texas oil family, the Hoggs, named one of their daughters "Ima." Really ~ Ima Hogg. I think there were actually two sisters with ridiculous names, but I don't rememeber the other ~ "Ura," maybe, something like that?

At any rate, as celebrity heiresses and patrons of the arts, they had to live very public lives with their silly names, and apparently never thought to petition the courts for a name change, or even to use nicknames, etc. Pretty nicely self-possessed, I'd say; maybe it's easy if you're wealthy enough...

Wolfgang you know full well that I am prepared to enter in to a serious discussion with you or any other poster.

However, perhaps you forget the occasions when I have been under the impression that you and I are doing just that - only for you to post for the ammusment of the other 'usual suspects' that your posts were just mocking some aspect of my posting style, spelling or grammar?

If you wish to seriously discuss anything on our forum - then please just go ahead and do this - rather than just post these rather hollow sounding appeals - which may be addressed to me but are for the benefit of the mob.   

If you publicly post something sensible - I may even respond.

Trust me

the name is far more significant that alphabet. When the register is called you know you will be called, and get first or last choice.

But if you have an unusual name there is no hiding. People remember you more readily - and what you did. And in job hunting you can look foreign until the race relations have been sorted - then you are too old until they get that one sorted - yea! in a politician's mind and you can imagine what is in there.
