Subject: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: GUEST,Kelly Hastings Date: 19 Mar 07 - 03:58 AM Foursome Scooch have won the contest to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in May, and they are simply fantastic. Many feel we will have it in the bag. The group's airline themed tune Flying The Flag (For You) beat five other contenders vying for the chance to represent the UK at Eurovision. This year's Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Helsinki on 12 May. The UK has is one of the biggest financial contributors to the contest. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Geoff the Duck Date: 19 Mar 07 - 05:52 AM Once again the general public has voted and put the crappest entry up against the best that Eurovision can do. Why do they EVER expect to win? Blowed if I know. What a surprise! Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:03 AM Makes no difference because:- (a) They were all crap songs (b) Every other European country is so jealous of us, or hates us so much, they wouldn't vote for our song no matter what. Waste of time and money entering. They should put the fortune they squander on this circus into something worthwhile - like raising the profile of Folk Music in the UK. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Bagpuss Date: 19 Mar 07 - 11:33 AM I was just disappointed that Morrissey decided not to enter. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Mar 07 - 06:07 PM Good grief. Here is the video of the "winning entry" on YouTube. There've been some pretty terrible entries, but this time I think they've bottomed out. Nul points would be generous. For contrast here's some more entertaining eurocrap - last year's Finnish winner. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: katlaughing Date: 19 Mar 07 - 06:51 PM Yikes, that's terrible! Looks like something from American Idol. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Mar 07 - 07:05 PM Here's the Bulgarian entry - now this one is actually quite impressive, and pretty scary. .................................... Every other European country is so jealous of us, or hates us so much, they wouldn't vote for our song no matter what. So you think the British put in a song that deserves to have no votes as a matter of principle? You may be right. The only reason I can imagine anyone would vote for that Scooch effort would be as a way of registering contempt for the UK. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Dave the Gnome Date: 19 Mar 07 - 07:07 PM The worse it is the better chance it has! We have a very good chance this year! Just keep listening to Wogan - It all makes sense:-) Cheers dave |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Mar 07 - 07:54 PM If that's actually so it'll be good news for anyone who hates the UK. But I think a song actually needs to be terrible in some memorable kind of way to get the so-bad-it's-good votes. This one fails even on achieving that. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: GUEST,Zoe Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:47 AM Well the public voted for it and Terry Wogan said it's Britain's best entry in years. So is everyone wrong ??????????????????????????????? |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 20 Mar 07 - 08:46 AM In a word - yes. If popularity with the masses were an indicator of quality, McDonald's would have several Michelin stars. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Essex Girl Date: 20 Mar 07 - 09:05 AM It probably is the best entry that England has had for years, after all did you hear last years? This one is pure Eurovision, the others were bland & boring.(We record it and skip through the worts bits) |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: sian, west wales Date: 20 Mar 07 - 09:45 AM I checked out that Bulgarian one. Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: GUEST,ib48 Date: 20 Mar 07 - 10:01 AM this crap competition should have been scrapped years ago,no doubt some song that goes rump titty bang bang will win. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Mar 07 - 01:00 PM "Well the public voted for it..." Does anyone still put any trust at all in these phone line scams? Here's the Eurovision website, with a link to vids of all the songs. I've skimmed through a bunch of them. Some real lemons in there - but the British entry looks like most cringeworthy and seedy of all. If Terry Wogan said this was the best UK entry in years that might be what he was meaning. The Irish entry is a bit cutesy, but tuneful in its way. There are a few more fiddles and squeezeboxes around among the other entries, as well as a few vampires and such like. I always think it's a hoot. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Geoff the Duck Date: 21 Mar 07 - 06:19 AM GUEST,Zoe - Terry Wogan ALSO said that the other girl had won. (you know - the French one who sang a song to the tune of Loch Lomond). Anyway - if we had a credible song entered, could the jolly old Irishman take the rise out of it like he does with all the abysmal "England nil points" songs which actually get through? Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: GUEST,Bardan Date: 21 Mar 07 - 09:33 PM Do you people seriously not realize? The British public think that Eurovision is a joke. This is literally. They (and I include myself) just vote for the silliest, entry. I don't think winning the thing has been a serious objective in years. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Big Al Whittle Date: 22 Mar 07 - 09:11 AM Oh for Father Ted and Dougal to bring a bit of quality into the situation. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 Mar 07 - 10:02 AM Of course it's a joke, and that's recognised by a lot of entries. And It's perfectly possible to be funny and musically and visually interesting at the same time. But jokes that aren't funny are just a drag, and the British entry is a case in point. Even aside from the lack of any mind of musical or visual interest. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: bubblyrat Date: 23 Mar 07 - 07:31 AM It"s about what you"d expect from a third-rate country that houses its armed forces in broken-down barracks & shabby married-quarters with no heating or hot water, whilst actively trying to PREVENT the cleverest children in its schools from going to university !! Thirty years ago, "Scooch" would have been pelted with eggs and booed off the stage, but alas !! --the rot has well and truly set in !! Bring back songs like " Diggy Loo, Diggy Lay " , that"s what I say !! |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Dave Hanson Date: 12 May 07 - 04:30 AM The whole idea is to enter the worst shite song you can find so you won't win and have to go to the expense and bother of being next years host. Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 May 07 - 09:56 AM If the UK entry doesn't get nul points it will be a terrible injustice. And it will indicate that an awful lot of people must really detest the UK. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 May 07 - 02:02 PM Naah. It'll be a hoot, like it always is. And there's some good stuff in there among the rubbish. The winner should be the Bulgarian entry - but it won't be. I was rather surprised to see it made it through the semi-final. Pity the UK entry didn't have to enter the semi-final, because it would never have made it through, and whatever replaced it, however dire, could hardly fail to be an improvement. |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: folk1e Date: 12 May 07 - 08:53 PM I had thaught we (UK) stood a good chance. On the night we were bad..... but not as bad as the scores indicate! What was obvious is that the voting bears little resemblance to the song and that Wogan doesn't want to do the show any more, but will as long as he is paid the kind of money he is for it! All in all an embarasing episode for all! |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Gray D Date: 12 May 07 - 09:11 PM "Voting bears"? How do they manage to hold the little stubby pencils to make their cross in the box? Puzzled Gray D |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Backwoodsman Date: 13 May 07 - 03:10 AM God, it was a good 'un! The ESC once again did not fail me. The quality of the performers/songs was of an order so low that none would pass the audition for a floorspot at the average folk-club. However the comedy factor of the voting saved the day, Mrs. Fenswoman and I rolled around our sofa with tears of laughter streaming down our faces, sides splitting with mirth, at the hysterically-funny 'political' voting. I think the voting part of the show was so strong comedically that, in future, they should just do away with the time-wasting and, frankly, embarrassing 'songs' part, and just let each country vote for its mates (which is what they do now), and rename the show The European 'Who's Johnny No-Mates?' Contest. We would win that one hands-down every year. BW |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 May 07 - 03:50 AM Missed it. Well, I say I missed it, I missed it like you'd miss a hole in the guts (holes in the head are useful for putting food in and getting earwax out of)... thank the deities for digital TV and the invention of the video recorder. Can't say as I'm surprised... the voting has been more political than a Donuel/Divis Sweeney thread since we allowed any country west of Luxembourg to play. Oh, and we had Chinese food delivered.. yum! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: MBSLynne Date: 13 May 07 - 04:42 AM Well we watched it with awe and horror again. It seems more of a contest to find out who can be the freakiest and most unsettling; nothing to do with good songs, good singing or presentation. Mind you...I DID like last years' winners and they would have taken some living up to. Not at all surprised that UK got nearly no points...our contribution was dreadful. BTW...despite the low quality, shouldn't this be in the music section? It is a song competition after all Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 May 07 - 05:38 AM The winner was actually a pretty good song, in its style, by a very good singer. Give it a listen, preferably a version without the Eurovision night razzamatazz - Here (And here are the lyrics, in Serbian, English and French.) The UK entry got 19 votes. That was 19 votes too many. |

Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: GUEST,Blindlemonsteve Date: 13 May 07 - 07:56 AM Everyone knows that if Britain wanted to win it, they could every year, we would just get Noel Gallagher, Sting, Elvis Costello, Morrisey, George Micheal, Gary Barlow, Elton John, Eric Clapton etc etc the list is endless etc, to do it for us. i think its best that we allow other countries to be in the running, otherwise it would just be the anglo irish song contest. which would be much better musically, but no where near as naff and laugahble as our european counterparts attempts at credible pop music,,, to prove my theory, the last time Britain put a credible artist in, we won by the highest margin ever.... This is no longer a representation of music, but like has already been said, a freak show and political pals appreciation society. The winners were the ones not taking part! The best bit of the show is Terry Wogans satirical comments, which for me make it worth watching! Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: BS: Scooch Will be a UK Winner at Eurovision From: Morticia Date: 13 May 07 - 08:55 AM First time I've watched it since Abba won and it didn't fail me, I haven't laughed so hard in years. From the sea of fake tan and spangles, to the consisent and complete lack of musical ability to the genius of Sir Terry's commentary... not to mention the sheer comic poetry of the voting, I was enchanted. And as Pixie of Doom said to me via text last night, where did they come up with Eurovision Barbie? I shall be front and centre next year with my bottle of Baileys and possibly an Irish flag, best kept entertainment secret ever. |
